1911- The Harley-Davidson of handguns

This thread has way too much squabbling, and not enough photos.

Indeed! Thanks for correcting that!

I love the association between 1911's and Harleys... both classic, all-american designs with a rich heritage and so very loved ~still~ that they are more popular than EVER today! They are both examples of my MOST preferred products! Today's Harleys are awesome motorcycles and so are today's 1911's! Of all of my personal possessions, the last I would ever let go of are my Harleys and my 1911's.

Not all of it, to be sure. The spring is there for a reason.

Still ain't got it, Michael. Sorry.

I'm curious. How is it that you're explaining the flawed engineering to us when you don't really understand how the flippin' thing works?

Okay...I'm a good fella, so I'll give ya a clew.

The barrel bed doesn't absorb momentum OR impact.

Thanks for your kind words. All short recoil, Browning-type handguns will eventually develop frame cracks, owing to the frame absorbing the recoil momentum in the barrel bed. Their longevity varies with the strength of materials and chamberings. Late production M1911 frames might withstand 100,000 round counts, whereas P210 frames can rack up over a quarter million. As an aside, unlike the M1911, the P210 tends to crack its frame in the rear, where it can be readily repaired by welding.

"Going by Swiss target shooter reports, its life cycle is over 60,000 rounds"

You posted that 4 years ago.

Now it's over a quarter million???

You've out done yourself. LOL

DHart,
Fine dog you've got there. I'm a Dobermann man myself, but nothing wrong with a good looking Yellow Lab like that one.

I learned a few things since then. Hasn't everyone?

They must have taught you in the kindergarten that over a quarter of million is over 60,000. Or did they?

The last wizened old coot I played this game with was Socrates.

You are nowhere near his league.

If you want to shoot, let's shoot.

If you want to talk, let's talk.

If you want to wax oracular, have a go at your faithful dog. I am not interested.

Harley are slow I dont think so they have won the NHRA pro-stock bike Championship 3-years in a row, The suzi guys were complaining and they had to add 10lbs to the harleys.....
How many top shooter runa 1911 style hand gun answer - to many to count

you can keep your glock and your triple seven..........:neener::neener::neener:

I find it particularly interesting that SIG, with all of its Uber- germanic speaking engineers and magical gun making gnomes, has finally come around to making a 1911 pistol.

Must be something to the 1911 design.

....and yes, Tokarovs and Lugers probably have very impressive kill stats, but then again its not hard to point a pistol at the back of the head of a kneeling political/ethnic prisoner and pull the trigger. Lugers sif I remember correctly were issued with holsters that completely enclosed the pistol because they weren't reliable if they picked up dirt/debris as when carried in an open holster.

I outshoot my buddy with my 1911 that has no sights every time we shoot. He has a glock 21.

My 1911 jams on occasion though, whereas his glock I have never seen jam and neither has he.

Feels very similar to my friend's AR-15 vs my AK..

I outshoot him with my AK still, but his AR-15 just isn't a happy camper, mostly cuz of magazine troubles and ammo it doesn't like, but hey.. Cheapest is as good as the most expensive in my AK, and that's all I care about.

My taste for pistols is somewhat superficial though, valuing comfort and style more than outright functionality. I attribute this to the uses I have in mind for the firearm.

AK? I don't conceal it. It's accurate, reliable, and works for me.
Glock? Does the same thing, but I don't conceal that either..

What do I want out of a pistol? Concealment with maintained perfection. I haven't found such an animal yet that utilizes .45ACP (the round I'm most capable with) so I'm left dissapointed in semi autos as a whole. I'm feel very confident in saying that all modern day semi-auto pistols are pretty crappy despite how awesome they might "really" be, they just don't fit the role.

Getting a revolver instead.

What all of this has to do with harleys? I don't know.. Harley's sure do make it easy on ya to get a girl though. Good times on 6th street.

Can't speak for P210's but..

...

I can speak highly of Sigs P220 45 and German Shepherds..

And the ~ Great Debate ~ continues.. ;) (all Dogs welcome)

I have never shot a 45acp Glock so I wont comment on that, but I wouldnt trade my 1911 45acp for anything.

Amazing!

Eight pages, 188 entries. The longest Glock vs. 1911 thread in several months.

But they DO come along with monotonous regularity.

Anyhow, this one's closed. Better luck next month. :D
