Bug Out Bag Gas Masks

Sure you can argue this is "far fetched"

You can't if you've been paying a little bit of attention. The instant and complete unravelling during last year's hurricane season was a slap in the face to a lot of the ostrich crowd.

Just to weigh in on the usefulness of a gas mask--depends on application, quality of mask, and at least a little training.

Some people that say a gas mask is unneeded may have 6k of ammo! I don't have one, but I don't think it would be a bad idea. If you've never used one, read up on it and try it out. Do it with a friend to make sure you don't CO2 OD.
Then, get a CS fogger and let your buddy light you up. Then take it off and have him light you up again so you'll know what you'll be protected from and don't panic if you get a wiff prior to seating and sealing.

Now, if its really bad stuff coming you'll likely be screwed. But a little preparation never hurts--and its the unexpected that'll get you.

Save your money on the surplus masks. I commanded an NBC unit in the military for 10 yrs. If you don't know how to check your masks for serviceability then you aren't going to do anything with it that will save your life.

I don't take your question as antagonism. It's a perfectly valid observation. As for my politics, I'm a man of the right. The far right. However, I don't think market-worship is in any way legitimately conservative. I see it as a prime example of "conservatives" forgetting just what it is they're supposed to be conserving. Hence my opposition to globalization and so-called "free trade."

You're right about those demonstrations being stuffed to the gills with leftists and other enemies of Western civilization. That's one reason I stopped going to them. One of the main ways the bigger leftoid groups involved in that stuff appeal to the heavy donors (like George Soros) is by showing them videos of these mass actions. Generally the planning committees will delegate responsibility for disruptions in certain parts of town to different groups. Said organizations videotape these activities and take credit for the presence of all participants and observers (regardless of the fact that the overwhelming majority of the people in attendence have no idea as to how the protest was put together and by whom) when screening the films for important funders. They can point to the screen and say "see how effective we are?!" I want no part of that.

The story about the Canadian cops is a long one and involves playing fast and loose with the law by all parties. I may have been illegally detained and some of my posessions may have been improperly seized, but it could have been a lot worse and the officers could have made it so and kept everything above-board. In all, the police in Quebec were quite forgiving of my youthful overabundance of testosterone.

Join your local volunteer fire department and you'll likely have an SCBA fitted and issued to you. Granted, the nice lightweight Scott Airpaks are only 45 minutes, they'll give you enough time to grab the essentials and vacate. :D

cops dont have the right to confiscate a lot of stuff but they still do...

considering i live in a largely unknown small town, i aint worried about nuclear attacks...

but something like avian flu of small pox, ect.

i would think a modern osha certified respriator with the right filter would work better than a old surplus gasmask from the 1950's

plus, you can get suits, hoods and all kinds of other cool NBC-like gear too from msc.

even with a gasmask that works, wouldnt a biological agent just "sink in" through the skin, or open cuts, sores ect?

the russian masks are good, they even work with hair on one's head. They are neat looking too. I got one for ten bucks and it lasted 5 years, until my friend, the great destroyer ripped it in half. Uhh. thanks..
I bought another one for ten bucks. That's not to say that the us navy gas mask that fits the nato filter from the russki isn't 100x more comfortable!
I got mine for free, you might have to pay some major $$ for those, I've found.
