start humping it to the nearest set of out bound train tracks and get walking. euthenize the family member pronto ;)

Good choice, but most trailers arent rated to haul a 200lb person, just two 20lb kids.....However, in a pinch they might work, although if it breaks you're SOL.

Don't be so sure of that.

Two modes of transport in one. or a handy cargo carrier. It depends on what you're hauling.

Probably not as much as the guy above is though :neener:

Alternatively I might start looking (or have planned on using) something like what's pictured below. It's hellish on hills and offroad, but hey, I live in the Netherlands which is flat and largely tarmac :D

There are variants where the rear end is replaced by the rear end from a motor scooter (think Vespa) but the what-if said dead engines.

Work bikes were around long before cars became much more than a novelty for the rich.

Cheers,

I'm not saying that there aren't ways to transport a wounded person by bike. The speicific example is a children's bicycle trailer:

"Capacity: 100lbs" So maybe two 50lb kids :p
Check this trailer out, though:

Might make a great way to haul gear around as an alternate to a car. I've seen the old plastic tub style bike trailers in the thrift store for $5-$15....but I'd be embarrassed hauling it around behind my $1900 bike :what:
However, my cyclocross bike has lower gearing and bigger knobby tires....and would be my primary transportation if cars are kaput. Need to get one for the wifey, though....in a real desperate situation I'll ride my expensive bike and she gets the other one (more stable)

Jonesy9,

"start humping it to the nearest set of out bound train tracks and get walking. euthenize the family member pronto "

This is one of the funniest responses that I've ever read on THR

LOL

:)

get in my carbureted 69 camaro, and drive off.... (no computer chips needed)

EMP doesn't only effect computer chips -- it will effect any electrical circuit. So all that wiring under the dash of your Camaro (I'm jealous, BTW :D ) will all be burnt out. No starter, no heater, no radio... nothin'. It's hard to get a car to run when the spark plug wires have all been fuzed.

Not necessarily. Most older vehicles such as the one described will work just fine as long as they have not been outfitted with aftermarket electronic ignitions.

get in my carbureted 69 camaro

Yes, also very jealous. I'll be putting together a '67 when time and money allow (hopefully 2 years). But that should work still, assuming it's all factory.

Personally, I'd be humping it mostly. Bicycle is out of commission, but I do some good hiking, pack stays packed, just need food and weapons. That's what the BOB is for.

Since it's an EMP burst, I trundle over to the 1940's Chevy parked in front of Hard Times Cafe and start it up. No electronics, oughta run.

Since I'm within 4.5 miles of DC, I'm going to remain in place...lotsa people headed for them hills.

Skateboard seems a good idea. Cheap, fun toy to have around, straps to BOB nicely, rapid mobility when appropriate, vital when having to move heavy stuff, no qualms about tossing away if not needed.

I think I'll get one...

During the New York blackout the guys on RollerBlades seemed to be loving life.

However, I think those would only work well in an urban, well-paved environment.

Skateboard makes a decent offensive and defensive weapon, too.

Especially one with older stule kingpins that stick way out. *ouch*

Nothing would make me laugh harder than a 250 lb guy with a 100 lb rucksack with an AR 15 strapped to the back, wearing all the CF gear he can get trying to trundle down Main street on a skateboard. :p

It's one of those things you have to practice, especially if you are carrying heavy gear. Next time any one wants to practice this, please let me know so I can bring the video camera. ;)

My cousin-in-law is a pro skater. I'll see if I can talk him into it.

I dunno how is is on guns, but I know his wife has one.

While old cars would run I doubt you'd be driving them anywhere, at least near the big cities. Because the roads will be choked with all the dead late model cars which were killed be the EMP. An older motorcycle or dirtbike would be a better choice.

I'd give the SG and slugs to the invalid, and tell them to hold on while I get myself to the farm. Return with horses, put NVGs on invalid who still carries SG, mount horses with rifle across back and pistol in BOB. Ride until the only thing we hear is the rain, then dismount and make camp.

Either that, or follow Jonesy9's plan, but with only me on one horse :D
