hey all,

so my wife no longer accepts my "but what about the zombies" excuse.

What excuses have/will you use to justify your next big gun purchase? Be it to whomever.

Thanks for the help

Ya know honey that gun you've got kinda makes you look fat maybe we should get a skinnier one :D

If you don't have one, then you must need one because you don't have one. If you have one, then you need a back up.

I bought you a house, all I want is a little gun to plink with....470 Nitro Express isn't too much for stray cats....I thought I was downsizing when I traded the .44 for two .22's, they are smaller....But honey, I don't have a SxS, full auto, pump action 12ga, and this is the only one like it...

You're Worth It

Honey, I just want to make sure our home and family are well protected.

I know it's an expense, but to me, you're worth it.

I'm competitive by nature, and your shoe collection intimidates me. It's just who I am. I can't apologize for that. Why are you always trying to change me? Can't you just love me for who I am?!?!

Very rarely do I have to use an excuse, most of the time I'll buy one with out telling her and just leave it in the corner. When she does finally notice several weeks or months later I simply tell her I've had for quite some time.

One that I have used more than once that works for me when I do use it is

Well I found such a good deal on the ammo that was way to good to pass up. So then I had to buy a gun to shoot the ammo.

If you buy black guns she won't know you have a new one.

Or. "This one is by far the most defensible in court because Ayoob gave it a positive review."

"Obama is only going to allow parts for this one."
"Gun for me, diamond for you."

sure do need more paperweights to keep all those important papers from flying around.

but I don't really have that many, you know Massad Ayoob always says 'If you have one, you have none, and two is only one' (not sure he says that but some one does)

ya see, the value of all my guns has went up. so instead of buying stock, lets buy guns. GUARANTEED to go up in value

But that guy from down the street has 102, I have to have at least 103!

I didn't complain about all those clothes you have. (warning: using this excuse may cause excessive fighting. Use at your own risk. ccsniper takes no responsibility for any divorces that may result from using the above statement.)

My last excuse was to try out purchasing a firearm with a CHL license - no waiting to call in the 4473. Well, that and I've always wanted a shotgun caliber AR-15. :)

Well, if the ammo for the next gun costs a bit over $.30/round, I would not be interested.
This is why I never pursued an M-1 Garand, FN-FAL, or civilian version of the 'M-14' etc. But if the ammo price were available at .30 or less, would say, "Now that "P" has finished college..."

Recently I sold a really old but very good Mini 14 in order to justify (to her) buying my first LE, a 'J. Carbine'.
Not from an auction, from "Joesalter".

Last summer I told her "Lots of guys waste money on tittie bars and casinos and have no money to show for it", and "Women can almost never sell their purses and shoes for more than a fraction of what they paid, but with guns and ammo we can often sell them for about what we paid for them, if patient". This is exactly what I told her and she was stumped.

I added that carbines are 1) fun, 2) can be a part of history, and 3) used in a (very unlikely) situation requiring self-defense in case Al Qaeda, a natural disaster, or race riot shuts things down for a while.
After reading 'SKSboards' for quite a while, anything must be possible.... and likely, any day now.

My Turn

Honey, let's be fair about this.

You got the last two guns. Remember? That Colt 1911 and the Bushy AR?

All I'm asking for is a little parity.

C'mon, Babe, it's only a .357, and I gotta have some kind of wheelgun, since you took my .44 magnum.

How am I supposed to hold my head up with the guys?

Please?

It'll let me get in two good weeks of hunting before all the other people come out and spook the deer. It may be the only hunting I get in this year before you drop.

It actually worked... I am looking for an inexpensive but reliable inline muzzle loader if you guys know anyone :)

My 44 magnum is so expensive to shoot. If we get a 9mm we'll be able to shoot 5 rounds for every round of 44. The money we save can be put towards a new car for you and still have just as much fun at the range!

(This one actually worked!)

I'm sooooo bad!

My last X-wife (I'm divorced x2 ) was a real big doggy lover. Whenever I brought home another pet, I would use the "But dear, you should've seen how pathetic it looked..... just sitting there in the pawn shop case, the large caliber barrel, the cute little grip frame (me discribing a Ruger OMBH w/ ivory grips & short bbl), & besides.... you just know some gangbanger would've bought it, used it in a crime, & it would've wound up in a creek bed or dumpster....." (all the while I'm pouting & giving her my best puppy dog stare! :( )

SR

the last one i used was "but they will never make another 1925 mosin nagant!"

It worked...... luckily she is a history buff... i THINK i might be cleared for an entire WWII collection ;) that is, if she doesn't realize that mousers and American rifles cost multiples more.

Her: "Why do you need so many guns?"

Me: "Why do you need so many shoes?"

Her: "Different shoes for different occasions."

Me: "Different guns for different occasions as well."

Her: "But they all do the same thing."

Me: "So do your shoes."

Her: "Touche."

You got it all wrong...your the man of the house you don't need excuses. Buy it!

But, only if you have a comfortable couch to sleep on for the next month or so!

I've posted this before, but do so again for all you needing help in this area. An excellent essay on the subject is Patrick F. McManus' essay 'Gunrunning' as found in his book 'The Grasshopper Trap.' You can read part of it here.

But be careful McManus' writings are nearly as addictive as buying guns.

I don't need excuses.
My wife gets mad at me if I don't come home with a gun when I visit the gun shop.
Two weeks ago, she made me go back and buy the one I had looked at but didn't buy.
Then the next day she made me go back and put another one on layaway as a gift from her next week for my birthday.
