While it is inconvenient for me to carry with all my camera gear at ball games, I certainly have my SA XD9 SC nearby with 2 extra hi-cap mags.

I see the 'average' fallacy raising its head here.

The issue is to you prepare for the average or for the reasonable extremes. Perhaps only 5% of incidents need extra ammo - so do you prepare for that?

Remember 95% of DGUs have NO shots fired - thus, the fan of the average should carry NO rounds. :D

Glock 26. Galco Ultra Deep Cover IWB. Extra 10rd. Because you never know.

As a civilian, if you think you'll need extra ammo or a back up gun when going somewhere, then don't go there!

The same, for the most part, could be said of the gun itself. If you are going someplace that makes you feel like you require a gun, then don't go there.

As has been stated earlier in this thread the majority of confrontations end without a shot fired, so I guess you can carry an empty gun.

Most of us carry a gun with the hopes of never having to use it, but we train for that eventuality.

Some people choose to prepare for a number of contingencies. I carry an air compressor in my truck, a battery pack for jump starting, tools, fire extinguisher, first aid kit etc do I need them often? No, but they are there when I do.

I carry spare ammo for a number of reasons, in no particular order. A spare magazine is the only solution for a double feed jam, if I am ever in a confrontation I do not wish to be standing around re-assessing the situation with an unloaded or partially loaded gun, magazines fail, carrying a spare magazine is easy and does not interfere with my mode of carry.

Statistically speaking, I will probably never need to use my CCW, but I carry it anyway just in case.

I've never had a jam in the USPc that I normally carry that was not caused intentionally. I carry an extra magazine anyway because it might one day jam and with my rotten luck it will be during the one statistically insignificant occasion that I need to use the weapon.

I try not to depend on statistics.;)

I always carry a spare mag, mainly since Mr. Murphy could be lurking in the wings at any moment. A magazine is an integral part of my weapon system, and since it is the one item that can be readily replaced, it would be.

I always carry 1 extra magazine minimum no matter which gun I carry. I have 4 different carry guns. Glock 19, USP.40, S&W M&P .45, and a Beretta 92FS. I carry the extra magazine, but not because I feel I need the extra ammo, (smallest capacity of these guns is the .45 with 10rnds) but rather because if my floorplate drops for some unknown God awful reason, I don't wanna have to say "uh...just kidding"...scariest feeling imaginable

At work I just have my 642 in the front pocket. After work I have the 642 in a different holster and one speed strip.

Depending on what gun I'm carrying It's either an extra Mag, or speed loader. If I'm carrying a BUG that's the extra.

4 Mags

I usually carry 4 mag of .45 with 2 1911s.

With the advent of crazy mall shooters I thinks it's a valid trade off. Also in looking at robbery assault threads multiple attackers seems to be the rule.

I use the holster with the extra mag pouch. Often, that one will be loaded and the other empty when the pistols are hidden at home. This is for safety sake. (there are NO young children in opur house)

Combination of "Never. > 5% of the time" and "I have a BUG. NY Reload!".

I know it can't hurt, but I just don't feel the need to carry an extra magazine. Also, I'd have to get a better mag holster for it in order to do so.

The cop who's been training me told me something that I believe in whole heartedly...if you need more than 15 rounds then you are in way over your head and should have left a long time ago.

When I'm carrying a snubby, or any revolver for that matter, I always have a speed loader.

When I'm carrying my primary carry gun (HK P2000sk), I very rarely carry an extra mag.

During the "winter," when I can get away with wearing a coat or jacket, I generally carry a Sig P229 or Springfield XD. With these two I feel confident enough with the number of rounds at my disposal that I don't ever carry a reload.

I carry at least one speed strip for my 642. Might not ever have to reload for SD engagement but you never know, also if you do expended any ammo you will have to reload to prepare for any follow-on threat.

Rarely.......

.....since I live a pretty quiet life. However I do carry an extra mag when I know I'm going through or into "questionable " areas.

I live in a state that doesn't allow concealed carry. However, I always have a handgun nearby (legally cased) and 3 loaded mags. It's the best I can do...
