1939 Izhevsk round reciever. Rifling looks almost brand new with no pits or rust, actually no rust anywhere on gun. Great action tough spring but easy enough now to uncock with 2 fingers after firing and load round with my thumb while still looking down sights.. little tlc, 5000 grit and toothpaste go along way expecially with good gun oil..
(sorry ****ty cell pics in bad light)

A friend of mine is wanting a fun gun for target shooting. I'm thinking I'll surprise him at Christmas time with a Nagant.
They are fun guns there is no doubt about it....but depending on what your friend wants he may not be happy with one. They can be all over the board, the barrels are pretty thin, and they do tend to string a bit when they get hot. Some are closer to shot guns then they are to rifles...all I am saying here is it is possible to get 1MOA of stop sign out of some of these rifles, and I have never seen one do one hole at even 50 yards....but if hitting 2 liters at 100yards is what you are after this is a real fun way to do it.

All that said I am a huge fan of the rifles, a more inexpensive center fire full power rifle you will not find. They have great history, great support if you want to know what every little mark on them....Just don't ask about the MO mark (that is a little inside mosin joke there) and they will really give you the feeling of how it was to be Ivan in WWII....they are very fun and cool bits of history.

Hi. I am thinking of buying my first Finnish M39. I own no Mosins now.

Which is better built? The WWII stock or the post-war stock? I'm looking at something that won't take me hours to clean. Is it true that the old stocks usually have cosmoline and the new stocks are unfinished (requiring a finish)?

Just checking...

I asked for a 91/30 for xmas and im pretty sure its mine but how does one clean it? i know the ammo is corrosive im not too worried about that i just wanna find a cleaning kit.

I have to be honest, I had no interested in a Mosin until I joined here now I have three. I posted my Mosins a few times. I think in the short time I've owned mine the Mosins have gained even more popularity. It's fun to watch, this was one of my last post in this thread and today I just received the latest 12/01/2011 edition of ShotGun New and J&G Sales has 2/3 of the front page of ShotGun New with their Mosin ad. And as I'm writing this I just received this via Bud's email blast, pretty funny

I free floated my barrel, took the upper handguarf off and polished the bolt and added a limbsaver par gun shoots amazingly accurate!

Just ordered a crate of 7.62 x 54r, $163 and change delivered. :D

Saw a 1938 or 39 Izvhesk round rcvr today for $99. If it was a Tula I mighta pulled the trigger. I think my next one will be a hex Tula. We'll see where I go after that. Should be three Mosins richer by this time next year. Convinced the wife (and myself) they'll be like SKS's in the 90's.

Did anybody else get in on the Black Friday Aimsurplus deal? Not bad $219 for a 91/30 and m44. I still kick myself for not getting a M44 when Big 5 had em on sale for $59 a few years ago. I wasn't 18 then and my dad just looked at em and felt the $60 wasn't worth it because the M38s were so similar.

YOU TELL US ABOUT THAT NOW!!!!!!

Man card revoked for at least one week :)

New xmas gift

I just received a Mosin Nagant from an uncle of mine for Christmas. Need a lot of help on mounting a scope, I'm new to these older rifles and have no idea which scope/how to mount it. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Mattfro, take a look at Jmecks scope mounts, or a mount from rocksolid industries (if you feel like spending the cash). Im personally either going to modify one of the mounts i already own or just get ATI mount.

For the love of god, don't get an ATI mount. The bolt mod is horrible, and unless you have a competent gunsmith, the scope mount will rip itself off of the receiver from the recoil.

I'm curious why you'd want to put a scope on a mosin. Personally sporterized guns turn me off. They're kinda like overly customized classic cars in that they're less desireable than a straight original car. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Like this one?

Some of them were issued with scopes. I can think of a few men (and women) that did very special things with one. Nothing less desirable about it aside from the price. :)

I think he is talking more like this, and not a period correct repro or even an original sniper.

This just leaves me spechless...
