finally got to my mosin i bought last month. this thing was fun as hell. had 2 problems. the top barrel band on the hand gaurd keeps coming off, the spring is full of gunk so it doesnt spring back to grab it. And for some odd reason i kept having mag dumps. id fire, and then the ammo would drop out. happened 5 times. i finally solved it with some electrical tape i had with me.

any idea on how to fix the magazine dump? i made sure it was latching in place, but when i shot the recoil would knock it open. also, i might just remove the upper guard and not worry about the band.

ps: i have a "disability" in my right arm, just in case you think something looks odd.

edit: 100yrds

Maybe there is still some cosmoline that is preventing the latch from being fully engaged? Sounds like the same problem with the barrel band spring.

Looks like you're putting your finger in the guard before you're ready to shoot. Probably just an unconscious thing.

lol, i got called out on that already by my buddies. it is "unconscious" act, cause im usually really good with that. i wont even do that with my paintball guns (the extreme hair trigger will fire at even the slightest touch), and when handing any guns at the store/gun show.

Here you go Tshaw

Random, nothing like an electronic trigger on a paintball marker to teach one to keep their fingers off, some of mine would fire while i was running.

LoL, that scope is for my 7-30 waters contender. I only install it when i need to try new bullets, and so far i havent found a single handload that shoots over 2"s. My normal sighting equipment is the rear sight off my mini-14 attached to the rear sight leaf of the nagant.

question, what did you guys do to get the hand guard off? the one in the pics above, looks liks the wood has been removed just infront of the rear sight. however, mine seems to be one solid piece of wood.

The handguard (upper part of the stock) held on by bands is removable...the front of the stock, is also removable, but its much harder to put back on.....We cut it off.

errr....i think i rand the numbers on my 06 and came up with 7 bucks a box? Id have to dig thru and find the receipts for my loading supplies to do it again. The 7.62x54r uses about 5 grains less powder, and the same bullets or slightly cheaper bullets (174grn hornady fmjs), so cost should be slightly lower. Surplus ammo out here is 10bucks for 20rnds unless you buy a whole crap pile in one shot....and i cant afford that right now.

Yeah, one of the "perks" of living in hawaii, everything is about double out here. That goes twice or thrice for gun related stuff, tho alot of the local shops really do try their best to keep prices down...i buy ammo and stuff when i can afford it, just to give a little support.

I was going to encourage you to move out of hawaii for cheaper stuff.

Then I looked outside and realized it's only about 15 degrees here right now.

Nevermind.

:)

LOL, That dosent make it sound so nice there. Only time it gets that cold here is at the top of Maunakea, at night, if ever. Then if your dumb (and drunk) enough to be up there mostly naked, you can go back down and hop in a hot pond.....not that i ever did something like that....
The cost of living does seriously bite tho, as do the fairly strict gun laws. I NEED a C&R

LOL, Morcey i think your right about staying broke...but atleast i could be broke with more stuff :D Midway and some other places offer dealer pricing for C&R holders also.

Tshaw 15.5" infront of the forend. Im honestly planing on putting a boyds stock on the rifle when i can afford it, but for now this suits me just fine. I May take the barrel back another 2-3"s, but Ill wait till i can afford to have my local smith do it as he actually has the correct tools. I might get it strait again i might not LOL.

I did a little trigger work on my Mosin tonight. What a difference! I don't have a trigger pull scale but it is considerably smoother than it was before. That done and the slugging and I'm ready to see how tight I can shoot this thing. :)

That part is actually kinda fun....before it turned off cold here 9 this morning. I was punching paper....The rifle is actually pretty darn good....I can hit dog food cans at will at ~ 50 yards all day long.
