Most accurate handgun you've ever fired?

The best target I ever shot was with my Colt King Cobra using .38 special ammo. fired in single action slow fire. 11 out of 12 dead in the center bull. Just had to have one flyer to mess it up.

I posted in this thread a while back, like 4 years ago,* and I'm here again to change my mind. I've kind of zeroed in on 4" .38 SPL K-frames and, in particular, a no-dash S&W Model 67. This gun is an absolute wonder. I know that there are wild target pistols out there that are more accurate but I like guns that can work if needs be.

I use 4 grains of W231 behind Speer 148 gr hollowbased wadcutters. I know I can lower the powder charge for even less recoil and some more accuracy but I like to practice with my carry load. According to Hodgdon's reloading site, this load is just shy of +P so it's good for my carry piece, an old Charter Arms Undercover snubby, and my house gun, which would be, of course, a 4" K-frame.

I had Model 14s with 6" and 8 3/8" barrels, but this 67 just dusted them so I sold them. They weren't faulty but I could shoot the 67 much better. I don't know if someone slicked up the trigger before I got it but it's like teflon on ice.

Now, if I were to go semi-auto, I'd have to go with my ol' Wolverine. I haven't shot any out-of-the-box .22 semi that's been more accurate. Once I did shoot some guy's Ruger MKII that was incredible but he had dumped a ton of money into it and was shooting some very low-powered target-pop rounds. It reminded me of a pellet gun. The Wolverine shoots all full-powered ammo without issue. It seems, though, that CCI's ammo gets the best accuracy from it.

In my original post, I mentioned a Norinco 231. I still have it and it's a still a very accurate pistol. Those 231s are real sleepers. They're pretty affordable, too, usually selling for $250 or so, not bad for a good 9MM.

* It's scary how time flies, isn't it?

CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical in 9mm and a Ruger Mark II in .22lr. I was able to put all rounds in the magazine onto the rings in the target from 50 yards, standing up. I can't do that with any other handguns, unless I'm prone and take extremely controlled shots.

most accurante handgun??

Hi, I spend all my spare time at the indoor range:
i get to shoot a lot of peoples guns there;
my S & W model 41 comes to mind
on the double action revolvers, none come to mind
on the single action revolvers, ditto
on semi-autos; many 1911's
and Sig's P226 x5
and S & W's 6900 series come to mind
and H & K anything.

did i cover it? buy more guns,

Max

In a slide gun it would have to be my kimber eclipse II target 1911. I can hit clays @ 99 ft with it, thats purdy good in my book. In a wheel gun it would be ruger single six. Pop caps @ 25 yds. And dat ain't bad eder.-Redneck.

I've used the search bar to try to find something like my question, but I didn't find anything. So...

What is the most accurate handgun you have ever fired?

Rimfire: Old High Standard Military Victor 22LR

CF: TC Contender with 7TCU BBl.

Recently, I fired a German Mauser made Luger, 1940 "42". A three shot group @ 25 yards you could cover with a quarter. And this was out of the gate, firing the first time for me, a gun loaned by a fellow I met at the outdoor range one day. I can't do any better than that, and I do not recall a gun I have fired that did better than that.

dot sight equipped S&W 41 shooting, of all things, PMC sidewinder, older not copper plated ones. It'll hold the X ring on a 50Y slow fire target.

Dan wesson 44V shooting sierra 220FPJ/22.5 2400. Iron sights - it will hold 3 MOA 100Y from a bench - probably most of that error is me.

My marlin 60 outshoots any .22 ive tried so far.

Beretta 92 with a trigger job it tough to beat for slow fire bullseye although I cannot shoot if well when things speed up.

I shot a decked out glock 34 once that I just couldn't miss with.

Several contenders. In no particular order:
  1. my Ruger .22/45 Mk2 with the 6 7/8" bull barrel and a good trigger job.
  2. Ruger Blackhawk in .30 M1 Carbine
  3. the local gun club's S&W 6" Model 14.
I can't shoot any of them to their full potential, but I've shot them well enough on good days to see their potential. (that doesn't sound right, but you know what I mean)

I'm not a great shot at longer distances but my XDM 40 makes me feel like a pro.

My Pheonix HP22 is also pretty good with the long barrel but it won't hold up to as much punishment as my XDM and it is chambered for a waaaaay weaker round.

It may just be nostalgia and me kicking my own arse for passing up a sweet deal, but a few years ago, I rented a Ruger Security Six at the range to teach a family member how to shoot. Price tag on the gun was $250, and I didn't buy it. It was a smooth and sweet shooting wheelgun, performed flawlessly through a box of .38 special.

Yeah, I kick myself monthly over passing on that deal.

THE most accurate pistol was an STI .45 acp 5" of unknown model. A guy at the range let me try it. Now I'm hooked.

THE most accurate revolver was my 2" Ruger. I could hit a head target every round at 30+ yards. Wish I could find the sob that stole it from me.

Custom revolvers that shoot 2-3 inches at 100 yards:
.475 Linebaugh, by Jack Huntington, on Freedom Arms 83
The .475 maybe the most accurate. With 420s at about 1350 fps it shoots one, .5" hole at 25 yards, and cloverleafs at 50 yards.

Colt Python and Colt Commander custom tuned
by a weapons genius from Lockheed, Bob Thompsen.

Sig P220, Colt Trooper Mark III .22, Glock 34 racegun(about 3500.00),
and many other custom revolvers, honorable mention.

Python

6 inch Python with tuned ammo and slicked up trigger. 5 out of 6 in 4 inch circle at 200 meters. Yes there was a reliable witness calling my shots with a scope, he told me if he had not been calling the shots and seen me do it he would have had no trouble calling me a liar. And no I never repeated it and am now too old and beat up to even try.

Not including Contenders and rimfires

Sig 220 ST...THE most accurate semi auto I have ever shot. Love it.
S&W 29 Classic with 5 inch barrel. Just as accurate as a Python I had..and probably should have kept..
