What's the most accurate handgun you've fired? And in which chambering? I'm asking the question as pertains out-of-the box, not customized, handguns.

Thanks for your time,
Jonathan

Out of the common & available handguns??

My S&W Model 41 .22 target pistol would have to take high honors.

Also, the National Match 1911 .45 I built for myself at 5th. Army AMU in 1968.

And a few S&W K and N frame revolvers that ain't too far behind, if any.

The next one I buy, then the one after that, then the one after that, then the one after that, then the one after that, etc.

Pretty much all mine are defense-class firearms. I have only a couple of "plinking" guns, and no "target" guns.

Accuracy, for me, is as much based on my ability with the gun as it is the gun's construction.

Of those I currently own, the one I am most accurate with is probably either my Ruger Police Service Six (.357 Magnum, but loaded with .38), or my Bersa Thunder 380. It seems I can shoot them both close enough together in aim as to be equal in my hands. My Ruger Mk-II is probably up there, too, but I'll be honest here; I haven't fired it much in the last several years to recall.

The one I have known myself to do the best with was the sidearm issued to me by my first LE employer, a S&W M67 revolver, especially after I upgraded the stocks.

I have two which are nearly tied. S&W M&P 9 and Sig P220 Stainless Elite. Probably a little more accurate with the Sig, but I could shoot the M&P a lot quicker.

Probably my S&W Model 41.

A Colt 1991A1 built into a custom gun by Wilson is probably second, and a SIG X-5 is probably 3rd.

accuracy

I shot a 1 1/2 " 5 shot group @ 100 meters [108 yds] with a Dan Wesson 44 mag from a reclineing position ,resting accross the inside of my leg . I used a blast shield . The shooting position is usually reffered to as [the dead frog ] to any of you old silhouette shooters .

For me it was Smith&Wesson Model 66 with a 4" barrel in .357 Magnum. It would shoot one ragged hole at 25 yards off sand bags from the bench. They don't make like that anymore!

Out of the box utility repeating firearms:
Rimfire
Ruger Single Six Hunter
Ruger Mark III Hunter

Centerfire:
Sig P226 Enhanced Elite
Ruger Security Six

For me it's been a .357 Blackhawk and an S&W 625 in .45acp. Don't know why, but these have been uncanny accurate for me. I do know there are handguns out there that are more accurate.
