3D printing in the reloading hobby
This was recently discussed in Staff:
1. If it was gun related
2. If it should have it's own sub-forum

What you'll be seeing is 3D printing will remain in the subforum which is most closely related to the use of the printed item. We only ask that the item being discussed/shown be related to that the use/function in that subforum

Wait a minute! The big news here is you guys have staff meetings?

But to stay on track, I can find no good economical reason to get a 3D printer for my reloading needs. Therefore, I’ll be ordering one soon.

I want to be one the Board of Trustees!

but seriously! you start print reloading tools! we can share files and such. No joke… it’s kinda intimidating

What!! That's scary.......sorta like....."you will be assimilated?" ;)

9mmepiphany......my younger brother has just replaced his second one. He's not a limper anymore already....not at all sorry!....the first one was done last year. Hang in there.

3-D printers are cool. But I have resisted the urge to get involved.

I have a CNC plasma cutting table and a CNC router table. I do not use them very much so their benefits go largely un-used.

Hence, I have resisted getting into the 3-d printing game.

I printed one for collating bullets.
Works great.

I was thinking of getting one myself to make firearms related things. Got a 49 inch monitor instead. Saw one at the work site in Hawaii last week. It was nice. So out went the printer and monitor is on its way. Still want a printer. I have some great ideas for one.

I found 3 very nice monitors in the dumpster! Get a printer man, we got old school engineers here that can think and we print

Yep, lots of people and lots of ways....and the Universe just keeps growing. ;) For me......at my age, I thrive best staying busy with new toys and new projects that can make new brain cells.....preferably those that allow me to produce more with less energy, and still stay useful and creative, even though I have less energy to do it with.

I never said one would not work well, it just does not fit my system of loading on a progressive press.
I'm the same way, I'd like to have one too but I don't have the room for one. I really don't have the need for one either. Maybe after I retire.
I've ran Auto Cad my entire life, and the need for play is not to be ignored.

I certainly didn't start it but knew it would be a game changer in prototyping and if uses were light enough, producton.

3D printers make it easy to build things that can't even be machined. With all of the free shared files out there you don't even need to know what CAD stands for.

CAD = Cat And Dog

Id like to see a forum for it, but even an appropriate tag on the post would be helpful, but thats up to the OP to make sure its added.

@GW Staar is a wealth of information :)
He helped me out a ton when I was working up my Tyler bullet feeder!
I have a really good printer, but I suck at some of the design stuff. CAD is not my friend.

If I finally figuered out how to use one I would forget by the next day and have to start over. I can see one as being a little useful in my firearms hobby but not enough for the the expense and learning involved to buy one. I may be getting a new one, hip that is, as I see the orthopedic surgeon later this month to get his take on what is needed to fix my get along that doesn't want to get anymore. Maybe I will be back to shooting soon. Can't happen too soon to suit me. I miss the smell of gunpowder.

Well you did for me.......you know how I struggled with the Hornady feeder to make it more efficient....without one. It took me 5 times longer to do that, than make a brand new and way better one after you showed us your kit printer and its potential. Two other early adopters here on THR had important roles to play too, RedlegEd, and AR-Bossman. They helped with getting me cranked up once I ordered a Creality printer and had touble figuring out the settings and mods to make it work right ...... creality isn't a lot of help.....unless you speak Chinese. Bed leveling, and bed material choice made a huge difference....manual bed leveling was terrible....RedlegEd and AR-Bossman both told me about the wonderful Ezabl Pro auto bed leveling system from TH3D Studio.....Printing instantly became accurate and fun. Then TylerR told me about the cheap polypropylene beds, and print lifting suddenly became a non-issue....I have NEVER had to paint my bed with glue.

The other big source of info was the internet....Googling Creality printer help, 3D printer tutoring.....and 3D slicer tutoring. But you have to wade through a lot before you find a tutor who talks in a way you can relate to. There is no ONE tutor or way in this part of the gun hobby either.

TylerR who is now a friend from across the country deserves special mention. I couldn't have done it without his tutoring, and generousity. His free print file trove is amazing and complete for us reloaders who want to make bullet or case feeders for pennies.......and ....95% created with DesignSpark Mechanical.

Good luck with the hip....my brother is glad to be rid of the pain in both of his. He's doing really well. As for old age forgetting....I can relate to that....but you just have to repeat and repeat and repeat. Better than sitting in the easy chair with nothing to do but waste away and die.

Everyone ages. Only a fool gets old. 😜

I don’t remember who said it first - Jackie Gleason, George Burns, Lucy Ball, Yoda… somebody like that.

When I talk old talk with my wife.....she says, "speak for yourself....I'm not getting old." I wonder if who said your quote was Sam Elliot ..... who also said in the Sacketts, "you can't fix stupid" sounds like something he'd say!:)
