Now with +1000 round through my XD sub I've had a few (four) FTE. Most of the rounds are store bought reloads (couple of different brands) for purposes of shooting at the indoor range.

For a while I've thought that's unacceptable and have the expectation it should never happen. Then I heard someone wisely overstate the obvious by saying that its man-made. Referring to the gun. And thus it's bound to not work correctly at some point. I think I agree. However, what about the ammo? ...it too, being man-made is going to fail.

So is it the guns fault or the ammo? I tend to think probably the ammo because the gun is much more a constant shot to shot. Other than ware, its the same.

Curious to know your experience and would like your perspective on what to expect....FTE and FTF per 1,000 rounds.

FTE = extract or eject?

FTF = feed or fire?

I expect all guns to work, so I'm disappointed from time to time. Shooting oddball reloads or off-brand ammo is usually the problem for me.

Ammo.
Some rounds are dud primers. Tap Rack Bang.
And if it wasn't a dud primer but a squib or no powder load
you get Tap, Rack and Kaboom.

Happened recently locally with a brand new 1911 and name brand defense ammo that had a good primer but no powder.

I flew helicopters and airplanes for almost 50 years. If it taught me anything it taught me that no matter how much machinery costs, or how carefully it is made, or how well it is maintained, machinery fails.

So, if this very expensive helicopter engine (and many other things) failed me, why on earth should a few hundred dollar gun and low cost mass produced ammunition not fail at some time or other?

Betcha it wouldn't have happened with a Glock :D

M2, That reminds me of a brake fail I had on a glider once. Went off the end of the runway into the weeds. Pretty scary.

My toilet FTFs occasionally but it is not a design flaw with the toilet. I could go into details on what causes the FTSs but you get the idea.
