The gun you want but never buy even when you can

CZ's (various ones), seems like every time I have convinced myself I am going to get this one or that one I end up with another Sig, Beretta or 1911.

I want to like the CZ's and I known a lot of you do, but IDK, just something keeps me from actually getting it. Probably the fact that I am just so familiar with the other three.
I was the same way a couple years ago, then I finally bought my first cz75b. Now I want may more CZ's. I've sold off some Sigs and a Beretta in the past. My Cz isn't going anywhere, unless it's for another upgraded Cz

M1 Garand, somehow it's eluded me more than once.....but one day......

Yes, definitely the M1 Garand. I've had so many chances over my 45 year gun buying years but never bought one. Then I bought an M1A which pushed the Garand further down the To Buy List. I've checked off most guns on that list so the Garand keeps moving up, maybe I will get one.

Same goes for the M1 Carbine, I got a Mini-14 instead. Yeah, two old combat vets I have absolutely no use for but desire nonetheless!

Since this is in the handgun forum, I've pretty much got what the handguns I want now.

There is a couple. One is a 1911 and one is a P64. Actually, throw the NAA micro-revolver in .22LR on that list, too.

At least I picked up a Romanian Tokarev yesterday; I guess that can count toward the Commie-Bloc urge I was intending to satisfy with the P64..

Beretta Model 90 Roma, the double action 32 automatic from the 1970's. Handsome little gun, Beretta quality...somehow the mood, the price, and the gun just never all get together.

For those who say Browning High Power: Maybe I was lucky, but my Indian Ordnance Factory Inglis-clone turned out to be THE best 9mm shooter I have, and I have a number of them. It was cheap too. The High Power, for me, turned out to be one of those rare guns that shoots much better than it looks. Don't bother getting a pricey one, maybe look for one of the Argentine clones. The 1911 guys can attest that the Argentines made good pistols.

There's 2. International Harvester Garand. Not sure why I'm so set on an IH, but I am. Have had several in my hands with money in my pocket and I'm always too picky and walk away, come back later and it's gone.

If the IHC Garand is about a CMP Service Grade or better, you ought to buy it when you see it. Don't get too hung up on having all IHC parts or a particular style heal marking. You just don't see many of IHC Garands.

If you find a better one, there is no problem unloading the first IHC Garand.

You can't do that with Springfields, H&Rs or even Winchesters as they are too plentiful.

Back to the thread...

I'm always looking for something that is difficult to find. If I do not buy it when I see it for whatever reason, I seem to never see it again. After a while, I get tired of looking and move on to some other "holy grail".

A full size 1911 and a Ruger 22/45 come to mind.

Every time I want one, it's right after I get to fire those guns owned by a friend of mine. I shoot really well with those guns. Yet, when I fire those guns I feel I got that out of my system for a while.

If he ever moves away, I'll probably finally do something about purchasing my own.

I do this as well. I've wanted a Stainless CZ-75 for years and have gone to the shop to get one and left with a 92fs Inox.

Some that I'm always "just a little behind" on justifying in price:

Johnson Rifle
Ruger SBH
Camp Carbines of any flavor
Machine guns when they were relatively cheap prior to "Firearm Owners' Protection Act", thank you for that little gem Uncle Ron.
S&W Model 41
Vintage Marlins and Savages outside of the 3-4 standard calibers.

These above, I always find myself just behind the most recent price hikes.

About the time I can justify, say, $800.00 for an item, I find they're going for $900.00 or more. Readjust, return.... repeat!

Ruger P85
I've got a thing for metal-framed, fullsize, DA/SA duty guns, and the Ruger falls into that, for sure.

My problem has been relative value. I've set my casual limit at $300, and for that I've gotten a CZ 75, a Beretta 92FS, and a Star 30MI. Under that I have a S&W 915, FEG Hi Power clone, and CZ 99.

So now, that pushes the Ruger closer to the low end ($200) than the upper, $300 end of the scale, and I haven't found one at or under $200, yet. And I just can't buy a used Ruger for the same price as a used Beretta or CZ!

I'm the other side of the coin, I guess. I can't help loving CZ guns (rifles and handguns) and can't seem to NOT buy another one of this or that version. To the point that I've done it 23 times so far.

Regarding the 1911 and Beretta, I recently sold these because I always grabbed a CZ or BHP when there was an opportunity to shoot a 9, or the 97 B when I was in the mood for a .45.

Finally decided there was no point in me keeping them.

And this one is in the process of suffering the same fate because there's no chance I'll shoot it instead of my 75 D PCR....

Two pistols qualify for my list.

I am attracted to the SIG P210-1/2/3 models or the real-deal Swiss Army P49. 1911s in the same price range don't phase me, but I have difficulty convincing myself to pay that much for a 9mm gun.

I ran across a factory matte chrome Browning BDM years ago. I bought a SIG P228 that day instead of the BDM. When I went back later to buy the BDM, it was gone. I have never seen another BDM like that one.

For me it is the Browning Hipower. I really want a new one, but cannot justify the $900.00 plus tax price.
Me too! Always liked the look and feel of them, but I have a couple of service size pistols and never can make myself cough up the money for another even though I really want one.

HK P2000 LEM. I rented one and talk myself out of it all the time, but I have wanted one badly for several years.

I had wanted a 5.5" .45 Colt SS Bisley forever, and kept telling myself I would just cut down my 7.5" Bisley, but I finally talked to a gunsmith and heard how much it would cost and decided to go ahead and order it this past week.

There's only three handguns that I'd like to have but haven't bought. I have the money for any of them, but when I see one for sale in the condition I require, I just can't make myself let go of the cash. One I can really do without, I already have a nice S&W revolver, but I'd like to have a Model 57 6". I want the .41 instead of the .44 just because.....
Next on my list, and probably the one I'll eventually get, is Browning Hi-Power, I want a MkI. The only other handgun I want is a 4" Colt Python.

This thread is pretty ironic. I have wanted to buy a 5" 629 for about 10 years but just have not for various reasons. I found one at an LGS that is a few miles away and determined that I was going to go there tonight and buy it.

I got there, cash in hand but the guy in front of me got there a few minutes before me:( He got the girl.

Probably a good thing. I really shouldn't spend the money right now and I don't really need it but it will be mine one of these days.

I owned a Ruger Redhawk in .44 mag. Enjoyed it for 25 years a sold it recently. But every time I walked into a LGS that had a uberti ot pietta in .44 I stand over the thing and drool. Sure I could afford the thing. I know I'd never shoot full mag rounds through it. The sights are really tough for a old guy. I just think they look great. No real reason to own one. Still may do it!

Taurus TCP

They're cheap as heck, I've seen them on sale for $168.00 - shipped.

I figure at that price I can't go wrong, but I never seem to actually buy one.

Any older Lever Action Rifles mainly in 357/38 or 44 caliber. I know what the new ones cost and paying about twice for an older on I just can not do it (for now).

Same thing with some older S&W and Colts (but the price of Colts are nowhere close to reasonable IMHO).

After wanting a 45-70 (about 40 years) a couple found the way into my safe in the last 2 months. So I guess there is hope for my wish list.

I'm a bit pedestrian here,,,

I've wanted a nice but used Ruger Single-Six for several years now,,,
It's just that they are so common I have always decide to get something a bit more exotic.

The funny thing is for years there was always at least one in the pawn shops,,,
Now that I have finally decided to take the plunge,,,
I haven't seen one in six months or more.

Go figure.

I think I'll just get a new one from Buds.
