What about Rudy in '08?

I'm getting kinda nervous because all names that I've seen thrown around for the repubs in '08 are way liberal and not friends of the 2A. I hope, I hope, I hope some new blood pops up before then.

Henry Bowman,

I'm about 99.9% sure that whoever suggested Bill Gates was joking.

Santorum suffers too much from foot-in-mouth disease. While some of his more outrageous statements play well to his Western Pennsylvania constituency, they aren't the type of thing that leads to being a Presidential nominee.

My wife and I were discussing this very topic yesterday. We would not support him because of his RINO status. He would not do well in the heartland. We also don't think that McCain would do much better than Rudi.

Who would we support?

For Pres, we'd like to see Bill Frist give it a shot. He'll need to be much more agressive and show more leadership in the next couple of years. Especially in the coming fight over the appointment of the Supremes.

As far as the Veep, Condi Rice would be a great choice.

If I'm not mistaken, since Schwarzenegger is a naturalized citizen, as Vice President, he could not succeed the President, should that be necessary.

FWIW,

I believe that the Constitution states that anyone not eligible to be President can not be Vice President. So Arnie isn't eligible.

How about Tom Delay??

Senator Larry Craig would be nice.

I second that. He's been a stalwart, visible, longtime 2A supporter. But I don't think he's well enough known outside of Idaho.

Also worry that he's too old. Didn't seem to hut Reagan, though....

The other Idahoan I would love to support for President is Butch Otter. Again, he's not very well known. But he's a Libertarian running as a Republican. I love his Libertarian views on things.

Condi Rice is my favorite, so far.

How about the Georgia Democratic Senator Zell Miller? He could change party affiliation. I think he is fed up with the Democratic party leadership and he is very vocal about it. He was a featured speaking at the Republican Convention.

He is a former Marine and Governor of Georgia. Do not know his RKBA stand, but I bet is pro-RKBA. Zell seems quite the conservative.

Also, being a disaffected and former Democrat, he may very well draw a large number of Democratic voters. He is getting kind of old though.

I have liberal family in GA and they say Miller is a complete NASCAR redneck racist (their words, not mine).

While we may like his soutern conservativism (dem or repub), he probably won't make a good candidate.

Rice would make a good VP. It will be tough enough to get a minority or female president up there, regardless of party or views. A lot won't vote for her becuase of race and/or gender. However, as a VP, she garners votes without the racist/sexist baggage that might plague her otherwise. I'd vote for her.

That being said, who she'd run with is up in the air. I don't like the choices either. The next two years will show us a lot more. Waaay too early to speculate (even though it is fun)

I would not support Arnie, Rudy, McCain, Powell, or most of the others. While Rice is brilliant, I am not sure she is presidential material. Not sure she is not, but she would have to prove it.

I am not sure who is going to move into the front position. I will not support a liberal, even if he is a Republican.
Any candidate that I would support must be strongly opposed to homosexuality, abortion, and gun control. He would have to be strong on national defense and be a man of integrity, and not wishy washy.

Jeb Bush - maybe.

So I am just going to have to wait and see who comes to the top.
