A Letter from Rudy Guiliani

I watched Rudy on Sean Hannity's show on Fox a few weeks ago, and when asked about the gun issue (guns are something that Sean rarely brings up) he basically said - "well, New York City is different than the rest of the country"

I am taking this as 'status quo'. He might sign a AWB if it goes through, but I dont see he alone making a new gun bill. He knows it will kill him, and while the gun grabbing might fly in NYC it wont fly in the rest of the country (ask the D's of 94 about that).

That said, I find what most of the rest of you are saying to be dangerous. "worse then Hillary, Obama". uuuuh no. Think about what youve all said. A couple of you have said that in this thread. Obama makes no secret about his gun issues (although since his campaign started I havent heard him mention them) - I beleive issues.org says he would 'ban all semi-autos' (NOT just 'Assault weapons') which is of course almost every gun in this country. IL has some of the worst gun laws in this country - 'gun owner ID card' - we need IDs for rights now? Its a wonder that Ted Kennedy hasnt been writing all the laws there. Hillary is not as much of a hawk on the issue, but I'd still take Rudy over both of those 2 Stalinists any day of the week.

But, they all suck. Rudy to me is the 'best of the bunch' but thats like asking how I want to die - Shot, stabbed or crushed.

Let's hope for Richardson. I still think the D's wont get elected (proping up their far left people isnt helping).

Ratz, as a person that lived in/around New York during "Ghouliani's Reign" I will tell you in no uncertain terms that the man has no respect for citizens rights and has no understanding/respect for the Constitution.

The things he directed the NYC PD to do during his reign are unpardonable IMHO.

NYC IS a different place but his track record supports the belief that he will employ similar tactics at the Federal Level that he tried in NY....it worked for him there and its what he knows and does best.

Ghouliani as Pres would be terrifying wrt the Constitution, Judge Appointments (Fed and SCOTUS) and the implications and ramifications ripple outwards from there.

I would vote for Billary before I voted for Ghouliani.

I don't swallow the lessor of two evils argument either. If there is absolutely no one on the ballot that I can support at least half way than I won't vote.
------------------

I will vote for the lesser of two evils, because there's no such thing as a 100% evil-free politician.

However, they really do have to be the lesser of two evils to get my vote. Rudy isn't lesser than anyone in the evil department.

I find it amusing that people say things such as; he will be beholden to his consevative supporters and therefore won't implement gun bans. That is the same as those fools in the Nationalist Socialist party who thought that they could control Hitler. They were the first ones to go.

There is no way RG will back off on gun bans. He will see this as what got him elected and call for more 'law and order'. He will also take the kid gloves off of the Patriot Act that George Bush has left on and really go to work on the bill of rights.

Steve, having lived in Vt I can tell you that Vt, NH and Maine are very gun friendly....full of folks that have escaped Tax-achussetts

jpk1md,

The people are gun friendly in those states, but we're talking about politicians here.;)
I remember Screamer Dean waffling on the gun issue at the national level, something he probably wouldn't dare do as governor of VT.

Personally, I don't buy the "it's different here" argument. What other of my rights do I supposedly leave behind at the city limits?

Guiliani will NOT get my vote if he's the nominee. I'm not going to encourage the GOP to take water from that well.

The dearth of electable Republican candidates is why I am seriously considering register as a Democrat and voting for Bill Richardson in the primary. I'd love to vote for Ron Paul, though.

Frankly so far, Richardson is the only one who I don't see as dangerous. If PA's primary were worth a damn, I'd switch to a D and vote for him as well...

Ideally Ron Paul is the best candidate, however he doesn't stand a chance. I am also a Newt fan, but he isn't even running at this point, and his downside in a G E is just as bad as hillary's.

Between Romney, Mccain, and Rudy, I'd hate to have to vote for Romney, but It may be coming to that....

jpk1md, right you are, and you make a good point - but ask yourself this: who do you think would be more likely? I am betting on the D's. All the Bradys and 'hunters' association grabbers are in their pockets. Obviously, Rudy would have to zip his lip or suffer 94-like wrath. Ill throw it out there - Id rather have Rudy than the 2 headed communist nightmare of Hillary and Obama, for reasons other than guns.

I am a registered Libertarian, so it doesnt matter WHO either party nominates, I support my party. You can 100% be sure of a pro-gun L candiate (being 'not as pro 2A L would likely get you kicked out of the party) , even though I understand many people wont do third party votes in Prez elections.

How can you tell if a politician is lying? His lips are moving...

Richardson? Hmm, just moved out of NM where he is governor... Not impressed.

Amendment V

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
How in the heck do you think the 5th applies to abortion? Honestly, the 5th talks about government regulation of power.

Note the bolded words in the Amendment.

The key to preserving the Constitution is to devend even the parts we don't like -- because if we support violating those parts of the Constitution we don't like, we must expect others to violate the parts we do like.

The Bill of Rights is a set, break one, break all.
