It was a Winchester 189? pump in .22 short,,,
I paid a whopping $5.00 for it at a farm auction.

This was around 1963 or 1964,,,
I was in Junior High then.

When I won the bid my Pop went to get the rifle,,,
When he got back with it the magazine rod was missing.

I was positive that it was there when I first saw the rifle,,,
But Pop said it wasn't.

Flash forward to about 1998,,,
Pop and I were talking about when I was a kid.

He finally admitted that he had removed the rod and trashed it,,,
He was adamant that I not own a repeater of any kind,,,
So he turned it into a single-shot.

The dang rifle was an incredibly precise shooter,,,
Pop couldn't shoot a "deer rifle" for spit,,,
But was a sniper with that Winnie.

When I joined the USAF in 1970 I gave the rifle to my youngest brother,,,
Much later on I found he promptly traded it for a bag of weed.

Go figure,,,

Yup, still have my original .22, a Steven's bolt action model 34, bought for my 12th birthday in 1968. Probably for 25 or so bucks. I also still have my first pistol, a Ruger RST-6, bought in 1979, and it's still pristine.

First one was an Ithaca 37 in 20 gauge shared with my oldest brother 52 years ago. He wound up with it but brings it to the opening day dove hunt that I host every year and lets me shoot it for the day.

First of my very own was a Browning BL22. I was 12 at the time. After the tens of thousands of rounds through it, it still shoots great. I passed it down years ago to my oldest son when he was 14. It’s still in the family and will be passed to his son in a few years.

Ruger 10/22 my wife bought for me in 1980,it still functions great after thousands of rounds down the pipe.

First handgun I shot was dad's Remington Rand 1911. He sold it a few years back.

First handgun I carried was a snub nose Colt Diamondback dad gave me. Still have it.

First handgun I purchased was a Glock 36. Sold long ago and don't miss it.

1976….Ruger 10/22. Think I bought it at a Target in Denver. No longer have it. Been replaced a number of times with different 10/22 variants.

Beretta 750B 6.35.
15 yo and it went everywhere with me. Until I shot the tip of my pinky off, than my dad throw it away as soon as I told him.
Good times.

Technically my Grandfathers M94 30 WCF and M12 16ga. He always pulled them out said these are yours. Then I got a Marlin 989M2 semi auto .22. I stupidly sold it. But now have two nice ones to fill the void.

My first real gun was given to me by my grandpa, it's a Henry lever action 22, still have it.

The first gun I purchased for myself was a Remington 870 express. Sold it a few years ago.

First real gun was a Remington single shot 22 at age 12 as a Christmas present. No longer have it. First 2 I bought for myself after college (1964) were a Ruger Single Six convertible and an Eastern Arms sxs 20 gauge, still have both.

That was what I traded for the LP-53:)

When when my Dad was maybe 13 he bought a Mossberg 146B T-Bolt from the local hardware store to work on the Marksmanship Merit Badge.
Original cost about $29.
He added the bomb riding torpedo decals (Douglas TBD “Devastator” torpedo bomber model) to the Schnabel fore stock.
Dad gave me the rifle some time about my 13th birthday. Have it still and its a joy to shoot.

My Dad bought me a Remington Mod 582 .22lr in the early 60's. I still have that rifle and target shoot as well as squirrel hunt with it. Replaced the original scope with a Nikon rimfire scope last year as the old scope must have got a cataract or something because it was out of focus.

H&R single shot 410 was a present. Disappeared years ago. First pistol was a raven 25 auto. Broke and trashed it. First rifle was a losing nagant. Gave it to a old boss.

Can't remember if it was the Ithaca model 66 or the Mossberg bolt action .410 with poly choke in the late '60's. Either way, I have both and they will go to my grandchildren.
