My birthday is coming up and the wife is buying me a new rifle as a suprise. Not really a suprise anymore.

She's getting me the top of the line Barrette MRad Bolt Action Rifle.

I do bench rest target shooting. Never hunt.

My Range goes out to almost 1,400 yards. I would like to hit that.

So. 6.5 Creedmore, 300 Win Mag, or 308?

Thanks Everyone.

Personally, I like .308. I have no experience with 6.5 and I want no parts of shooting .300 WM. :)

I would choose .308 because I am familiar with that round and I already reload for it. Though I would be interested in hunting also so this would be my choice of the 3.

The 308 starts running out of gas at about 800 yards. With hot loads and long barrels you can get it to 1000. The 6.5CM and 300 WM will give you very similar trajectory and will still be viable out to the 1400 yard range you have. For punching paper targets the 6.5 CM burns 1/2 the powder and hits you with 1/2 the recoil of 300 WM. If you want to shoot elk at 1000 yards the 300 WM hits them harder. But either will poke a hole in the target. In this case the 6.5 is the easy choice by default.

If you were limiting your self to shots under 1000 yards then the 308 is still in the running. But I've yet to see a 308 as accurate as a 6.5CM, and the 308 still hits you harder and uses more powder.

Not a huge fan of 6.5 Creed. It seems like 90% of people who get one in the cheapest rifle they can find think they’ll be Chris Kyle with the 6.5 when they couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn with daddy’s ’06. BUT target shooting at 1000 yards? That’s literally what she’s built for. High BC bullets with manageable recoil. And it’s plentiful on the shelves. .308 might beat it but not by much.

6.5CM will do 1200yds easy.

300WM will do a mile.

Personally, I'd do the 6.5CM.. while ammo isn't cheap anymore, there are a lot of precision minded factory loads to choose from.

I'm buying this.

Yes. My apologies. I should have stated that after careful consideration I changed my mind. I was talking with an active Army Ranger and he highly recommended this.
