I love the .308, but for shooting 1000 yards I would look hard at the 6.5 Creed if you are going to shoot a lot in one session. Many people do not. In PRS we’ll shoot 100ish rounds in a day, recoil adds up, although some folks shoot the .308 and don’t mind it at all. If I was 30, I might not either.

I love my 6 Dasher, my buddy loves his 6 GT, and you can but GT ammo now.

I know you didn’t ask about it, but the 260 Remington is a very capable chambering for that use, as is the 7-08. I built a 260 Improved, I’m very impressed. I’ve got a couple 308s and 300 Win mag. That’s why I chose the 260 Remington Improved.

Agreed, I think the Ruger precision is a great choice for your purpose.

I would have gone 6.5CM personally, but reasonable minds can definitely differ on that. The creedmoor will maintain more velocity at longer ranges with less recoil due to lighter more aerodynamic bullet shape, but people have been shooting long range with .308 for a very long time and it is most certainly up to the task.

I look forward to hearing your experience setting it up and shooting it.

Thank you very much. I'm excited.

Should I keep the order? Stay with the 308?

She did suprise me. I'll give her that.

How would your wife take you changing the order?

Personally, I'm not a fan of the Ruger. It just felt cheap to me. Maybe it's just the one I played with or maybe the feel just didn't sit well with me, i don't know. The guys that have then seem to be very happy with them. For a similar price id buy the Bergara HMR. I know a few people with them and they are great shooters.

I'm a fan of 308 but for long range target shooting the 6.5 Creedmoor is definitely better. Longer supersonic range, less wind drift, and lower recoil. Much lower barrel life though.

I have plenty of time to change the order. I've fired the Ruger Precision and it is like a bar of iron. That thing is put together. It was in a 300 Win. Had a bit of kick.

Rpr is a whole horse of a different color than an Barrett MRAD

If it were me I’d talk to my wife tell her how thoughtful it was that she did that then I’d explain to her that for what your wanting to do a 6.5 Creedmoor would be better and I’d cancel the order and buy that ymmv but that’s what I’d do also I’d surprise her with something she wanted with the money I saved from not getting a Barrett
