Your favorite CCW - why?

GI Series 70 1911s. Occasionally borrow Sig Sauer P238 from wife when clothing requires it.
A Ruger, a Colt, a couple of Rock Islands. Galco Fletch holster and belt. I also carry two spare magazines.
You. Need. A .Good. Belt.
I'm a reasonably large fellow, 6 foot and 235 pounds.

Thinking about a 357 revolver for carry. My wife has a LCR which is bedside gun. What is your favorite carry revolver? Factory or custom grips? Why is it your favorite? Holster?

1. GP100. See my avatar image, to the left of this writing.

2. Factory grip.

3. Why? It fits, perfectly. The original-pattern factory grip fits my hand, and, the trigger is positioned perfectly, for my index finger.

4. The favored holster is somewhat situation-dependent, and is also dependent on the position of the trousers’ belt loops, so, could be a Milt Sparks PMK or HSR, or a Kramer Vertical Scabbard. If I am sitting, such as during a a long road trip, a Kramer Cross Draw version of his Vertical Scabbard, worn “strong” side, a bit forward of my usual carry position, is nice. (The Kramer Cross Draw has only a slight reverse cant, unlike the radical reverse cant of most cross draw rigs.) The goal is for the holster to position the gun where the hand “naturally” reaches, in each situation.

I’ll give honorable mention to S&W K- and L-Frames. They would be favorite, had I never discovered the GP100. Generally, I get best results with S&W revolvers, if they have aftermarket grips.

S&W 640 Pro with 158 gn SWC +P loads and Hogue grips in an IWB holster for EDC. I like the extra weight of the st. stl. frame, and the Hogue grips fit my hand really well.

S&W 642 with factory grips for summertime carry in a pocket holster, same loads. I'd like to reduce the thickness of the 'package' and would be all over a Kimber K6 if they were available in my state (they're not). So I'm looking at a Sig 938 to fill that need.

I seldom carry a revolver, but when I do it's a S&W nickel Model 38 with wadcutters.

For years I carried the very same gun, even down to the wadcutter loads! Added a Tyler T-Grip Adapter to it and use to carry it in my pants or jacket pocket, depending on the weather. Traded it in on some semi-auto and was without a S&W J frame snubby for quite some time, that is until the Model 649 came out. This was my primary CCW until I got a Model 638 to give the Model 649 some relief during warmer weather. Still carry them in a DeSantis SOF-TUK holster along with a couple of vintage Bianchi Speed Strips.

The question does not qualify the purpose. My primary concealed handgun is a Colt Commander in .45 ACP. Standard checkered grips do, but I tend to use 'fancy' wood grips in the same configuration. Secondary is a model 10 3" revolver with stiff loads. (Prefer the 158 gr WCHP ammo when I can find it.) I would prefer a three inch model 13 but haven't found one yet.

For open carry I carry a Colt Government Model (full weight) in .45 ACP or a S&W model 19 four inch.

My primary carry is a full-size M1911 (a Kimber Custom Classic -- their basic gun in the mid-90s). When that gets a bit too cumbersome -- as when wearing gym clothes -- I carry a Colt Detective Special. For woods carry, it's either a Colt Woodsman, or a Colt New Service in .45 Colt.

• Rated for Continuous +P Use

What are the primary considerations? Size? Weight? Capacity? Exposed hammer, shrouded, hammerless? If money is no object many like the S&W 340PD because it is light as a feather, can handle .357 Mag if needed, easily slipped into a pocket holster, plus it looks really cool with the titanium cylinder. Expensive and recoil is substantial. Yet it does "check a lot of boxes" for a revolver carried often and only shot very occasionally.

I have one. You really forget it’s there it is so lightweight. Shooting is brutal. True compromise gun.

My favorite carry revolver is my .357 mag S&W 66 2.5" barrel in a DeSantis Crossbreed OWB holster on a heavy gun belt.

But I carry more often my .32 mag Charter Arms Undercoverette in an Azula J-Frame pocket holster. If I had to do the Undercoverette over, I'd get a Ruger LCR in .327 mag carried in the same holster.

My 66 has a Crimson Trace laser grip and my Undercoverette has a rubber "boot" grip.

I began with a SW 442 primarily for its small size for pocket carry.. Later, I reconsidered being limited to five rounds and reviewed the options of semi-autos with safeties. Being a lefty, I finally settled.on the Sig 365 because it offered an ambidextrous safety, small size, 12+1 9mm capacity, and was reasonably priced..

I prefer a semi auto for belt carry. However, if Scotus fails us and in a hypothetical universe (because 5 or 6 is enough!) and we were limited to revolvers, my belt gun would be my SW 632 SS 3 inch barrel, with hammer. It's not made any more.

The reason is size - as I find the larger SW or Ruger revolver frames a touch big. It fits my little hands. It has 6 shots and the 327 loads are a beast, so their size doesn't bother me.

If I had to buy a new belt gun, it would probably be a LCR in 327 with a hammer.

My favorite CCW is still an auto, but I often find myself carrying a revolver.

In theory my favorite is my Colt King Cobra (new model). 6 rounds, 3" barrel to get more velocity and capability out of the round, .357mag capability/flexibility if I want it (though I usually use .38+P), yet barely larger than a J-frame. Good blend of revolver reliability and class, caliber, capacity (for a revolver) and concealability.

In reality, I carry my Taurus 85CH more than any other revolver (often paired with a Taurus 856UL in a pocket, or recently, a S&W 442 in a pocket or on my ankle), and more than any of my autos other than my SIG P365 and Glock 19.
