I've been thinking the same thing myself.
Especially after seeing it on a dealers table at the York, Pa show yesterday for the bargin price of $50 for a box of 50 :what:.
I couldn't beleive my eyes.
Will the 9x18 be next?

TexasRifleman pretty much hit the nail on the head. It was never a very popular cartridge and was pricey compared to it's 2mm longer brother.

In the last year or so, little .380 pocket rockets became popular and at the SHOT show, something like five new .380 models were premiered. .380 ammo just wasn't in the supply chain like 9mm, .40 or .45 and the manufacturers were basically caught with their pants down by the demand.

I've got like 40 rounds of .380 upstairs in the safe. Gonna sell em some day and retire on the profit and send all my kids to college.

I never cared for .380 and didn't know a single person that owned a .380 gun until all the pocket pistols got big. It cost as much or more than its 9x19 brother but was alot weaker.

Last week obtained a AMT .380 backup and can't find .380 anywhere. Looks like it might be awhile before I actually shoot it. I can buy premium .357 for the same price as .380 bulk stuff.... decisions decisions.

so today i went to wal-mart (wally?) and yeah, just like any other day, nothing. i overheard store manager talking to customer that, reason they dont get ammo (everybody) is state is trying the pass the law(track serial number whoever buys ammo) anyone heard about this?

Jim Minardi, a gun dealer in Lakewood, Colorado, says "only a few people are actually hoarding. But they are buying up so much ammo that there isn't much left on the shelves."

To be listed online at 300% markup.

I have a 500 round case of .308 federal 168 match that I bought some years back. I think I paid 12 or 13 dollars a box when I figured it up once.

I saw the exact same ammunition on a dealer shelf today for 42.95.

Anyone who has not stock piled ammo it's your fault; I ashamed to say it, while being among so called firearm enthusiast, your should have to knew much better.

I have to believe that ammo companies are addressing this demand. It can't be long before we have supply again. I am getting impatient, though. Bought a new LCP for the wife, laser included. I am not thrilled at waiting for her to train & carry.

This logic seems to make the assumption that ammo does not get shot and lasts forever. Should one have stocked up enough ammo for a lifetime of shooting? Whatever amount that is.

I don't get it

The complete lack of .22lr anywhere near me is annoying.

I've got some 9mm and .223 and I reload (luckily i bought a bunch of reloading components last fall) but I really just want to do some cheap plinking with my 10/22 and single six and I hate that I can't.

Not a lifetime but enough to avoid the madness that’s happening now.
I've got more ammo and components now than at any time in my life, and in the last 2 years I've only bought 300 rounds total.

Found some .380 at academy today; Monarch FMJ. They limited me to two boxes, and They had just sold out of Monarch JHP. This is ridiculous. At least they ae not gouging as much as some; I think I paid $13.95 box / 50. Still high for practice .380 rnds. They said this was the first .380 shipment in nearly 2 months; maybe the log jam is beginning to break.

you got a good deal

I emailed a guy on Craigslist yesterday that was offerring 380, 9mm, and 45 auto ammo for sale, but no prices.

He wrote me back that the 380 was Monarch brass cased and that it was $35 a box. I have enough 380 ammo that his "good deal" was easy to pass over. I can handle some markup, but that was a bit much.

Found some 223 in Round Rock

For those that live around Round Rock TX. Academy had about 50 boxes of Monarch steel case, maybe 10 or 12 boxes of brass case, and maybe 10 boxes of Remington 223. This is behind the counter down by those high doller fishing reels.

They had been limiting a purchase to 10 boxes. But the counter guy said I could have a few more if I wanted. Tight finances had me keeping it to 10 boxes for myself.

This was around 11:00 today ( 05/06 )

Just FYI.

It's funny how I can still buy shotgun shells for cheap and even shotgun slugs for about 12 dollars for 4 boxes of 5.

But cartridges that use only a tiny fraction of the materials to make cost much more.

My dad just got his 500 round box of 62 grain M-193 223 ammo from SG, it was backorderd 3 month's, but it finally show'd up. Basically, its trickling in.

I'm glad I stockpiled and hoarded when ammunition and primers were cheap.

I bought when:

7.62 surplus was $154/1000
30-06 Lake City was $200/1000
.45 ACP was $7.50 / box
9mm was $4.99 / box

Primers were plentiful at $15 / M

Still shooting that stuff up. When this debacle is over I'll stock up again.

Finally Found Some 22LR

I scored six bricks of 22LR at Walmart tonight. :neener:

I feel so lucky I should probably find a casino... :D
