I was surprised to find some .45 ACP ammo at cabela's... they haven't had any for about 8 months. They even had some .380 Blazer and 9mm WWB... they haven't had any since October.

Hopefully the panic is over somewhat. Prices are still a tad higher than they were, but only by a couple bucks.

Still nothing at Wal-marts here though.

Frankie, if it was FMJ that does not surprise me, but JHP and SWC ammo seems to be harder to find and more expensive.

Take a look at Natchez and Cheaper Than Dirt for example.
No it was Magtech and PMC for the 38 and 357 and the 9mm was winchester

I walked into Walmart this afternoon and nearly swallowed my tongue.

They had cases and cases of everything, even .380, 45 long colt, .40, 9mm, 38Special and .45 - it's a damn good thing they had a 6 box maximum limit.

Otherwise I would have put a serious hurting on my checkbook balance. I'm going back tonight to get six more boxes of .45 auto though...

Scheels in Cedar Falls IA had pistol primers and a whole boatload of handgun ammo. And they actually had some powder on sale - apparently all of their ordering just caught up with them, and they have no room now.

My friendly local WalMart is once again stocking .22 LR in the Federal 550 round value packs for @ $16/box. I switched over to mostly rimfire shooting at the range about six months ago due to the crazy ammo situation. Since then I've accumulated a bit of centerfire handgun ammo from online vendors when I find reasonable prices. I refuse to pay gouger prices however.

Like Lakeshore I have pretty much confined myself to .22 rimfire for months now. Actually it has helped my trigger control and when I do fire center fire rounds my accuracy has improved. Not a bad thing. Still enjoy my hobby, just don't want to encourage price gougers.

I finally was able to pick up some Federal bulk .22LR for $13.95/550rd at Wally World a couple weeks ago. I had been shooting bulk Remignton Thunderbolt .22LR for awhile...it was more expensive than the Federal ($19.50/500 at Dick's), less accurate, and less reliable. None of the inexpensive Blazer Brass .45 that I have often bought from there....that was the cheapest decent .45ACP I could find. A local place wanted $17.95/50 for Wolf....

I've been seeing .223/5.56mm milsurp around for $7-9 per box depending on location. .308/7.62 NATO is still brutal...I paid $17.95 for 20 rounds of mil-spec the other week, though a gun store in my old hometown was stocking it for $13.95/20.

My local Wal-Mart (the hometown store, not the supercenter...we have 2 walmarts in a county with less than 15k people) recieved some .380 shells this morning. they were all gone by the time I went there on my lunch break. The sold 10 boxes of 50 rounds for $38.00 a pop. Gouging much? They sell .45 cheaper than that.

For those of us who cant seem to find any 380, I found a decent deal at Midway. Dont know how long they will last.

Prvi Partizan, 95gr FMJ box of 50 for 15.99

My Wally World near my town gets a ****load of ammo once or twice a month and its gone in a matter of hours.....there is no conspiracy... 80 percent of gun owners have an entire ammo dump in their basements.... i think its really stupid cuz once BATFE finds out someone has over 10 thousand rounds in their basement they will automatically think its a terrorist training cell....

Erikm et al

At the risk of being controversial, why not, I wonder about Erikm's statement above about the stores "gouging" as if they are doing something wrong or unethical. Now, I think that gouging is a situation in which merchants hold us up for something that is necessary to survival...like the time after the hurricane when bottled water was being sold for atrocious prices at first. To me the merchants selling ammo for a high price is not gouging...it is capitalism. Isn't that the name of the game we are supposed to be living under in the good old USA. I hear a lot of complaints on this forum about USA becoming a nanny state, etc. We are not supposed to be a welfare state...we live in a capitalistic economy primarily. So, when maybe the capitalism is not to our liking it becomes "gouging." You do not have to buy the ammo. You will live and survive without. So, don't pay the price if it is not acceptable...but don't call it gouging. It is not.

I recently bought a mini-14 and 223 ammo availability has concerned me. Fortunately, I was able to score some brass, primers, and powder at pretty reasonable prices, got myself 1000 55 gr Hornady SP bullets off of Midway, for $95.:) So now I can load my own 1000 rounds, don't have to worry about availability.:)

I was in the Ft Worth Cabelas a week ago and they had quite a bit of the 223 loads. I didn't buy any but I thought it was a little high. Matter of fact i thought everything was a little high.

My local WM is getting ammo. They had about 12 boxes of federal 550 ct 22lr bulk. They are around $15.00 a box now. I didn't buy anything there either. I am still very stocked up on ammo.

I'm glad to see things getting better.

Price "gouging" is ok when it's based on real and legitimate supply and demand issues.

Right now, supply is increasing for most types of ammo and I think some people are still gouging and will continue to do so as long as they can.

As I said before, go to your local gun dealer and check what he's got. Mine had a fairly good supply at good prices.

The trouble with the internet is that it's too easy for huge numbers of people to put ammo on back order and this creates a shortage that keeps perpetuating itself.

The internet dealers, I suspect, are screwing us.

thanks erikm for the midway tip... bought a few boxes to get me by this morning... shipping was 7 something so 100 rds of 380 came out to about $40 shipped... not bad considering what it has been...

Did a road trip today with the wife and daughter. "Me driving them all over for shopping has always been part of their yearly birthday presents". Anyway; we always wind up some place I can shop for "Big Boys Toys". Today, went to Sportsman's Warehouse and was able to get 22LR Remington Gold Hollow Points. Value box of 525 rounds. Cost $18. Bought 2 bricks. Also; 9mm FMJ 115 grain for $11 a box. Bought some of that. Too much 40sw available; plus I don't shoot that, so I left it alone. After there, we went to other places and they had a Dick's sporting goods. Mostly rifle rounds on sale. 30-30 for $12 a box. Bought 4 boxes. Then wound up at JAX's. They too had a lot of 40sw. Didn't want it. But they also had plenty of 223 for $8 a box of 20. Bought quite a bit of that. And then; after getting home; went to walmart. Got some 9mm, 32acp, and 44spl. (The 9mm is for a friend. I don't shoot that either). Anyway; looks like a decent day shopping for ammo. I was actually the most excited about the darn 22lr. I've been going through a lot of those. And to get bricks for $18 is definitely nice to see. Especially fmj HP instead of the traditional lead.

Stopped by Bass Pro Shop after the gun show in Jackson today and was pleasantly surprised to see plenty of ammo in all calibers and really decent prices.

Bunches of ammo in Iowa and Omaha

This weekend Wal-Marts in Omaha had Federal 9mm for $8.97 a box. I was visiting there and got 9 boxes at various Wallys in the area. Limit of 6 boxes on the Nebraska side and limit of 2 on the Iowa side of the Missouri river.

i think its really stupid cuz once BATFE finds out someone has over 10 thousand rounds in their basement they will automatically think its a terrorist training cell....

And your basis for this belief is ....what exactly? For one thing, I don't foreward the number of rounds I buy to the ATF, nor do I believe any of the retailers I do business with do such things either. Second of all, 10k is really nothing. Why do you believe such a number would somehow be cause for an BATFE investigation? Like you said, a good number of gun owners stockpile significant amounts of ammo. Its not uncommon, so why do you believe the BATFE would give two craps about how much ammo I, or anyone else, has? Comments like yours only feed the fires of unfounded paranoia. While I certainly don't trust every aspect of our govt, I also don't think they are going to be "watching me" because I have purchased a certain amount of ammo.
