I agree. Capacity is a lesser concern for me than comfort and how well I shoot the gun.

I carry a Canik SC Elite and sometimes a Taurus snubnose with Hollow point 38 spl. Only Keep 7 rounds in the Canik even though it holds more.

Im with @CDW4ME on this one.

If you’re going to carry a gun that size, 2.5 extra ounces to fill up the magazine shouldn’t be an issue.

Otherwise, might as well step down to a lower capacity gun if you want less weight and size.

Self defense handguns shouldn’t be carried with a half empty gas tank.

Completely arbitrary lol. 7 rounds reduces the weight but still enough for self defense.

Those "extra" bullets are a burden, .... How many is "enough" ... 7 should do it. o_O
Does this accompany only carrying when one "feels the need"?
Is more than one attacker factored as a possibility?

Yeah I’m comfortable having just seven rounds on me. I think that’ll be enough for the places i frequent. I have the extra rounds in my truck that i can pop back into the magazine if I’m somewhere that I really feel 7 bullets isn’t sufficient.

That’s just me and I’m not trying to convince anyone. The reduced weight makes for a more comfort IWB carry. When my clothes require an even smaller gun, I carry a 5-round snubnose. But I don’t want a smaller capacity semiautomatic pistol Bc I shoot this Canik well and I like the option of adding the extra rounds at the range or anytime.

and yeah, I carry “when I feel the need.” When else would anyone carry? If you carry every place you go then that’s Bc you feel the need to do so.

You’re the first and only person I’ve heard to do this.

What’s that gun weigh fully loaded with a round in the chamber? 31 ounces?

I can’t see the wisdom in carrying only 58% of what your magazine is capable of to shave 2.5 ounces of carry weight off a gun that size.

I think we’re being trolled here.:scrutiny:

I don’t know but it’s noticeably lighter. It’s really simple. I shoot the gun well so don’t want to downsize, but prefer less weight. I’ve still got more rounds than anyone with a revolver and I can add more rounds when I want.
I’m not sure why this bothers you. How many rounds are enough for you to feel safe while running errands? 15? Maybe you need 16! Maybe you’ll be attacked my a cartel hit squad so you better just carry an AR with 10 extra mags in a backpack. Hopefully you’ll be ok.

I hope youre at least carrying a full spare mag for a reload, and understand why you do.

Most of what you've said really makes no sense. If you dont have what you need on you, when you need it, you dont have it. The slight difference in size and weight between all but the smallest of guns, really makes no difference in carrying them, so why would you choose less over more, when there is so little difference?

Carry and do what you want, but from the sounds of what you've said, Id suggest you get some realistic training, so you have a better understanding of the hows and whys of things.

31 ounces is significant, if your doing physical activity and out in the public

No bother. Blame my misplaced concern for your decision as I was merely hoping to help a THR member here.

I voted choice B in the poll, by the way. But I don't download the mags or cylinders in any of my self defense handguns.

CDW4ME and I have disagreed multiple times on carry philosophy and I even carry a 5 shot snub frequently......... But Im fully on board with him about carrying half full mags being very odd.

I know I’m an oddball. But the weight difference is noticeable to me. And I’m still carrying more rounds than anyone with a revolver.

What I’ve said makes perfect sense.
I like my gun. I shoot it well and don’t want to downsize. I like it a little lighter. It still holds more than a revolver. And no, I’m not carrying an extra mag around. That’s absurd to think you need that.

yeah yeah “what if I’m attacked by a gang?!” the statistical probability of needing one round is very low. Needing all 7 rounds is statistically…minuscule. Needing a 7 rounds (or a full magazine) PLUS another full magazine? I’ll take my chances lol. It makes no sense for you to even carry a handgun (or even be in such a place) if you think you’ll need that many rounds. If you feel so threatened that you really think you need an extra magazine then you’d carry an AR. I don’t live in a war zone. Maybe you do.

Nope. If a 7 round semi doesn’t make sense then nor does any 5-6 round revolver. A gun’s capacity is irrelevant. What matters is how many rounds a person has on him. And I’ve been told repeatedly in this thread that 7 rounds is not enough and a few less ounces are irrelevant. Well if 7 is insufficient in a semi then 7 is insufficient in anything. And by that same measure, logically, we should all be carrying the absolute max number of rounds we can carry.

As I said, it would behove you to get some training.

If your carrying an auto, there's more to having the spare, than just added capacity. Training would help you understand that, and some other things.

But hey, you do you. ;)

15 .... Mags are 15 rounds. I don't top off the extra round.

That would be the one I'm suppose to save for "myself" isn't it. Never gonna need it

Once in South Phoenix I was forced to the side of the road but a group of young men. They got out of their car and started running towards me with baseball bats.

Fortunately I was going home from an IPSC match and had my .45 on with two extra magazines. When I pulled my gun out the window they all stopped, turned around and got back in their cars.

I felt much more comfortable with the ammo I had then nothing or just 7 rounds.

Budding psychic ability.
Not only do you know how many bullets is "enough" but also where its not enough.
Carry when you "feel the need" - wherever this is, the potential threats there immobile, you have to go to them. o_O

You would be better off to carry the snub everywhere legal, no "feels", consistently; everywhere despite how low you perceive the threat level to be.

I think we’re being trolled here.:scrutiny:

Sadly, I think we are not. Gun forums are mecca for budding psychics.

CDW4ME and I have disagreed multiple times on carry philosophy and I even carry a 5 shot snub frequently......... But Im fully on board with him about carrying half full mags being very odd.

We are trying  but IME it is usually futile to try to help somebody with psychic powers. Perhaps this time will be one of the exceptions.

Per your own posts, you chose and purchased a 12+1 or 15+1 capacity autoloader, depending on which magazine you install in it. Therefore, you must have felt the need to purchase a gun that holds more than 7 rounds.

Makes me wonder if the 7 round carry choice is based on some sort of gun capacity buyer's remorse.

I carry a Glock 36 (45 ACP) with a Pierce +1 round extender for a total of 8 (with on in the chamber) for my CCW.
May I ask what holster or similar device you use for the G36? Mine mainly rides in the glove box to and from work, with me wearing a G43 in an ankle holster if I have to go out and about. But increasingly I feel better relying on .45 ACP so I'd like to take the G36 with my instead at times.
