Unfortunately montana rifle company closed its doors due to bad financial management (spending more then the company makes is never good buisness sense )Yeppers, my favorite big game rifle is the one I had custom built by Montana Rifle Company when I retired. I don't know if it even has a model name or number, but it looks like a "beefed up" Model 70, and it's chambered for my favorite big game cartridge - the .308 Norma Magnum of course.
On the other hand, my favorite small game (as well as ground squirrels, jack rabbits and assorted pests) rifle is a Kimber bolt, and it's chambered for the .22LR - my favorite "small game, as well as ground squirrels, jack rabbits and assorted pests" cartridge.
On the other, other hand, I still have my first "real gun" - the "22" (a Model 55 Winchester) my mom and dad gave me for my 10th birthday over 63 years ago. So it's pretty hard for me to not think of that as my favorite rifle and cartridge of all time.
Is that a pre monarch Nikon or a old buckmasters.View attachment 1047095
My favorite rifle/cartridge are together in my Ruger No. 1-A in 7x57mm Mauser
Just an FYI.....the 840 did come in 30-30. I have one. They are a lot of fun aren't they? it was the Stevens 325 for a couple years then the Savage 340 then the Springfield 840. Only Stevens and Savage come in 30-30. A limited number of the Springfields were made in .225 Winchester that's the one I really want. The Stevens 322 is the 22 hornet version of mine.
Winchester model 70 featherweight . I've got 3 of them , but my favorite is a 6.5 x 55 . had it over 20 years , taken a lot of deer , antelope ,coyotes , and a couple or few elk cows . Always say it kicks like a .243 and hits like a .270 .

mausingfield action, 24” k&p cut rifle barre chambered in 308 win by Chad Dixon of Longrifles inc. jewel hvr trigger, sitting in a krg X-ray chassis, vortex razor on top
upgrading into a xylo chassis by American rifle co
the 308 is just fun, lots of bullet choices, plenty of brass, good hunting cartridge out to about 500yds as long as I have accurate range and a decent wind call, also very capable target rifle out to about 1000 yds
oh, and the barrels last forever (5k-10k rounds)
aww cool. I didn't know that.Just an FYI.....the 840 did come in 30-30. I have one.
