Getting excited about Pistol Caliber Carbines

I have 3 if I don't count 22LR

No pics but I broke down and bought a black Magpul Backpacker stock for my Ruger PC9. I gave up holding out for a tan one. I feel like it lightened the rifle and makes it feel more handy. The whole thing fits in a large backpack. Only down side is I now need to invest in Magpul QD sling swivel parts.

Am out of town but will post up some pics in a week or 2. Pre magpul stock:

My CZ Scorpion is a lot fun to shoot suppressed. Such a tiny little package. 147gr makes it even more fun.

My Rossi 92 is almost suppressor silent using starting 38 special loads and 158 RN bullets.

I like pistol caliber carbines as well.

Glock Model 20 in Recover Tactical brace. This folds up and fits neatly in the glove compartment
of the Mule. Very handy and the hogs hate it. Why brace a pistol? Because three points of
contact are better than two 100% of the time.

Ruger. It just stays in the safe. Shoots fine but I'm not thrilled with a 9mm sporting a 16" barrel.

My patrol rifle was a .223 AR, I shoot a .223 AR in 3 gun and a 9mm AR at indoor 2 gun and Speed Steel matches. Having one "platform" works for me.

The 9mm AR was adopted by my wife, since the threats by BLM and ANTIFA, reside within easy reach and wears a "shake awake" red dot!

I get a kick out of watching her ring 8" steel at 100 yards. Each "ding" is followed by a cute little giggle! What's not to love! :)

I like revolver caliber carbines much more than pistol caliber carbines.

Is .356 a pistol or revolver caliber? Asking for a friend! :)

I use .356 and .357 caliber projectiles in 9mm and .38 Spl (cartridge) firearms!

I also reload 135 grain .357 caliber projectiles in 9mm and .38 Spl. cartridges!

Smiles,

I like shooting 9mm in my pcc's but it can go fast so I',m glad that I have a couple of 22lr's to mix in with the shooting fun.

I have 3 9mm carbines. First was a Beretta CX4 followed by a Colt AR and a HK SP5. Since I got the SP5 I haven't shot the other 2. I also have 2 USGI M1 Carbines that could technically be considered pistol caliber and are my favorite long guns to shoot.

With the guns available today, most calibers can be bought in either a pistol or revolver. Ruger and other manufacturers have quite a few combo revolver/pistol caliber guns in 9mm, 10mm, 45acp & 45 LC.

These guns allow for various ways to straddle the boundary. For example, this Ruger is set up for Cheek Pistol use.

I know of guys who just do the cheeck pistol thing with a naked factory Ruger, but I don't quite understand how they manage that. My hand certainly does not bend like that.

Although... I keep tinkering with it and it's not quite like the picture anymore. First, I swapped TRS-25 for an RMR. I kept forgetting to switch the sight on at a match. But more importantly, I am looking for an upright grip. I put a Magpul MOE-K2 there for now, but even that is not enough.

This particular configuration also sports CZ-75 magazines.

When 9mm costs just as much as .223 or 7.62x39mm, no, they do not excite me.

Back when 9mm was $0.13 per round it was a different story. They still are good weapons but yeah, with how screwed up the market is, just no “bang for your buck” value with the PCCs and I’d rather have rifle power if I’m paying rifle ammo prices.

Where are you buying ammo? THis whole covid drought, 9mm has been cheaper the whole time. Its close to 30 cents a round right now. Vs .55-60 cents for 223/5.56.

Hey all,

There are so many good pistol caliber carbines out there and many come in pistol format. Consider:
Uzi's, Ar15, Ar9mms, Ak9mm, Cz Scorpions, Mp5 Clones such as the PTR 9CT, Century Ap5, HK Sp5, the list goes on and on.

Love my AP5 w/ brace, it's been a 100% reliable and fun gun to shoot. Didn't know there were optic rails available for the MP5 .22 pistol, was hoping the factory would have thought of that, but good to know it's possible. Have the M&P15-22 pistol and it's a lot of fun too.

A question for you guys who have a RDS mounted on the Ruger PC's rail without a riser. Can you co-witness the factory iron sights? I have a Romeo 5 mounted on mine with a riser and I don't want to mess with the setup if you can't.

I had a Beretta CX4 Storm (92 mags) before PCC’s were “cool”.

Last year I added three more:

An H&K USC/UMP Conversion in .45 ACP

An H&K SP5

And finally a Sig MPX K

I SBR’d the two H&K’s. The Sig has the original brace, which works just fine. Of all of them, the MPX K is my favorite. It’s scary accurate and there’s no recoil at all.

For the most part I don’t see the point compared to a .300 BLK carbine, other than cost of 9mm but I like shooting pistols more.

To me, it’s one less caliber I have to try to find and stock. I have plenty of 9mm and .45 ACP — and in a crisis it would be easy to find. .300 BLK isn’t nearly as ubiquitous. The ballistic performance of 9mm and .45 ACP isn’t as good but it’s more than acceptable for me.
