Update!Sent my BHP slide off to Novak’s for new sights. I’ve been wanting this for a long time!
The front blade sight and tiny notch rear just don’t do it for me anymore.
I am more than pleased! 8 days from my door to Novak’s and back to me is great.
I think the upgrade was worth the expense (and I was apprehensive).
The dovetails look really good, and it looks like Novak’s re-blued my entire slide— at least it seems that way.
2 minor points,
I had to finish fitting the firing pin stop— it has to have a flat on the top curve where it meets the rear sight. It needed a bit more stoning to eliminate interference with the frame when cycling, and to line up properly with the firing pin.
The old staked front sight hole had been filled with a weld before the front dovetail was cut— and the weld was a little proud inside the barrel bushing. I covered the top of the barrel with sharpie and verified the drag points and then addressed the high spots with a dremel (tiny sanding drum) and then buffed it with a felt bullet and polishing compound. It’s a tight fit, but I think it will wear in now.
The two issues I adjusted were unavoidable since I only sent the slide to Novak’s (as instructed). Fortunately, I enjoy doing this stuff and have the proper tools.
I can’t imagine a better outcome!
Range time will be fun next week…
