If You Could Only Have One Carry Piece For the Great Outdoors, Woods, Mountains, etc. What Would it Be

If the purpose of the gun is general self defense while in the woods

If the OP limited the topic to SD I'd probably agree, but that wasn't the OPs criteria, though with.
You could be rambling or running for your life! You want the do all gun that keeps you alive

This "anything" range goes beyond what you and I would choose if it were just self defense.

Common things being common, the most likely use would still be self defense against people.

Back in the day, I use to tote a Beretta Model 70S .22 that was my "Carry" piece, albeit secondary to my primary gun, a Maverick 88 12 gauge shotgun with an 18" barrel.

Nowadays things being what they are, in regards to what you might encounter on a backwoods hike, for a carry gun I would go with my Colt Commander .38 Super. With some warmer handloads, less weight with it's aluminum alloy frame, and 10 round mags, there's plenty of horsepower on tap to go along with this great carry gun!

As to your ? I would take my 695t, it can shot slugs or shot. Pistols unless it's big bore sized don't do much to a big animal in the woods, It takes many rounds in the right spots. Now granted a 695 won't do everything from a distance, a 100 yrds it's lethal. That's my choice, anyway. Shotguns up close get even the biggest animals to back off!

Thankyou for the reply, if weight is a option, a pistol shotgun works too!

My 2.5" 5-shot 41 Mag is hard to beat for power and ease of carry. It's easy enough to load 410 shot loads, it will push a 170 grain bullet just short of 1400 fps, and it's easy to carry in a pancake holster. It's also surprisingly accurate.
Is it a Taurus 415?

Can't do it. Most of the outdoors, in my neck of the woods, forbids open carry. So rifles and shotguns are right out. It has to be a concealed handgun, and the biggest thing I can conceal is a 4" .500 S&W. I've done that on occasion but it isn't a lot of fun. For long hikes I would give serious thought about just going unarmed. For long runs there's just no way.

I got a 340PD for the runs in particular, and it's perfect. But it certainly is not the gun I'd want for grizzly territory. And for big game hunting it's all but useless.

So I'm not playing this game. :D

Yes it is.

I bought it at the used gun counter at Cabela's, years ago. When I asked to see it, the guy behind the counter was shocked to see that they had it. When I pulled out my ID and credit card I thought he was going to cry because he really wanted it.
I bought my 415 used also. $200 in 2011. Love it...
