Has anyone noticed that they increased the number of contestants from 16 to 18.

Could this be because each season someone has left the show early? Extra contestants would help make sure that the required number of episodes were produced without fumbling for ways to make it so.

While the show is a popularity contest to get to the finale, the final challenge to determine a winner is all about the shooting, and they put them in several situations to test their overall ability, so no one master skill will win the show.

I think it's great fun, as does the wife, and the photography is incredible. If you're not watching in HD, you really should. It's worth sitting through Jake's drama just for the slo-mo shots!

Gotta admit there is an effort to diversify the contestants.....gone from a golfing instructor to a school janitor.

I don't think there is enough time to shoot more than two shows a year....they are filmed in late Spring and late Fall.

They are going from filming to post production and the selection process for the next episode starts right after. The final tryout is only a week long, but they invite 50 contestants. Then they have to whittle it down to the final ones and start pre-production

I see that there is not one big name, Open shooting USPSA guy in there. Lots more IDPA and lots more Marines. This should be interesting...IDPA isn't as specialized as USPSA, but it's not nearly as competitive either. I hope they do well!

The only guy besides Buckland for which they list any actual IDPA credentials is Kyle Sumpter, and looking back on the results 2008 to present, he won CDP division at WA state match as an EX in 2008 (no MA present), and competed as an EX at the same match again in 2009, but did not win (EX class or otherwise); so I wouldn't say that guy is highly competitive in IDPA.

For those more familiar with the other sports, I'd be curious to know whether Forrest McCord is accomplished in USPSA, and/or William Bethards in 3gun, as they have reasonably impressive sounding blubs on the website.

How "specialized" do you think USPSA is? There are SIX divisions, including Revolver, Production and 1911 Single Stack. These three divisions have rules that don't exist in the other divisions with the specific intent to maintain as even a playing field as possible.

but it's not nearly as competitive either. I hope they do well!

At the top levels, there is plenty of fierce competition!

I'll watch it as long as it doesn't turn into a bunch of survivor wannabes. DVR is very effective at editing out the stupid drama.

My buddy and me are betting on this season. Each have a 1st, 2nd & 3rd pick to win it, getting the most money if your first pick wins, then less if it's your second and hardly any if it's your third.

I just picked mine today but he hasn't picked his so I won't say who I picked.
And granted it's going to be just a guessing game going off the bios but it's still fun

I can't imagine he would do it. Doesn't seem like his thing, and being a teacher, while he gets a bunch of time off in the summer, in the fall, winter and spring he can't take that much time off.

I hate how they NEVER shoot the guns they show in the intro video...the PKM, the SVD, the Desert Eagle, the G3, the RPG, and countless things they showed before.

Yeah, I did too. Got me every time. Oh, and I bet at the beginning of season 3 on who would win. And I won.

I shoot with a female who tried out. I'm surprised she has not been on the show yet. She is a High Master (shoots 97.5%) at 1000 yards. She's even easy on the eye balls to boot.
