Top Shot (Season 4)

I too wondered about those back packs. Seemed useless to lug them out to find out what the shoot was about, then lugging them back was wasted effort. I could see if it was a long walk and not much of a wait until practice time
Once they leave the house in the morning of practice, they don't get back until the end of the day...it isn't a short walk

Who set the sights for the 200 yard target, and did they have a chance to shoot @ 200 before starting the contest?
Terry said his shots during the Elimination were striking about 3 feet low

Which is smart, since even if he loses, he has $6k of gift cards right now.

Yeah, when I realized that was the 3rd elimination he'd won, I immediately started drooling thinking about how much I could get in the way of components for $6k.

I can't believe Greg won again based on a tie broken by round count. That's the THIRD FRAKKING TIME. I bet he's a lot better than he looks on TV, he's just trolling for gift cards. Which is smart, since even if he loses, he has $6k of gift cards right now.

Well, then perhaps he can buy lots and lots of practice ammo with all of those gift cards. :)

BTW, Madcap I like your signature. If you're into Finnish culture in any way, you'd like the movie Rare Exports.

With the prices at Bass Pro you couldn't get a lot of reloading supplies for that $6,000.

We stopped in to see the Easter Bunny last night. Their cheapest box of 223 ammo I saw was $20. I didn't even see a spot or shelf sticker for the cheaper stuff. You would think there might be a market for sub $20 223 ammo. But what do I know, Colby isn't handing out gift cards to my store....

The Mad Minute has been around since the late 1800s with the record set in 1914 of 38 rounds...that's 8 reloads (two stripper clips per reload)

It would be hard to duplicate with common modern rifles for several reasons.
1. the Lee Enfield cocked on closing which made bolt manipulation faster
2. the bolt can be operated without moving your face from the stock
3. the 10 round magazine makes for more shots in a string
4. the rear locking lugs offer more advantage in unlocking the bolt
5. it has a built-in guide for the stripper clips

Two Comments...

1. The back pack thing was explained in a prior season. Apparently the shooters are out on the line all day during the filming and setups. They are asked to bring an extra set of clothes, plus water plus something to read/listen too plus, whatever else for interviews etc.

2. It just makes me cringe watching those guys shoot that Lee Enfield from prone like that. I know little kids who can hit a 24" target at 200 yards, with iron sights and no support other than a loop sling from a proper prone position. Actually it makes me cringe watching most of the people on that show shoot a rifle.

Stats from the "Moving Speedfire":

Terry 6/18 : 33%
Greg 5/12 : 42%
William 4/12 : 33%
Augie 3/12 : 25%

Based on performance, Augie should have been selected. Then, either Terry for taking so many shots to hit six, or William for taking a long time to hit four.

I hadn't noticed it myself but my wife commented (before I watched this episode) that Augie had kind of been skating below the radar. When discussing who to send to elimination, Greg said that Augie had hit seven. And Augie does nothing to correct him, says something like "I don't who hit how many but... etc."

Bunk! He knew damn well he didn't hit anywhere near seven, but didn't man up. He's a weasel. It definitely should have been Augie and William - not Terry, because although his percentage was the same as William's he still hit more than anyone else, and certainly not Greg (although I'm surprised he's lasted this long).

The blue team was never a team, too much squabbling and no cooperation in the events. Contrast that with the red team, who would call out reminders to each other. At least they're all going to the green shirts next episode.

That was the most thrilling Elimination Challenge I've ever seen.

Both my daughter and I were screaming for our favorite at the end...and nerds were again vindicated.

The only thing that would have made it better is if it had been Greg shooting instead of Will. shooting.

Top Shot

Tonight is my first time to watch the show, They were shooting at 1500yrds. I would like to do that one. Really liked that part of it most. Al

I was very happy with the result. Kyle outshooting William was brilliant, and then Chris's comeback was icing on the cake.

So I was in a bar in Tacoma tonight and there was a very large group, probably 50 folks, wathicng Top SHot in a special room. I ask the girl behind the bar what was going on. She said that the Oriental feller standing up in the room was actually the guy on the show. Sure enough it was. I guess they were having a big watching party for him. ANyway the bartendar seemes quite pleased with the group and the tips.

That was a fantastic elimination challenge

Most previous challenges were out-and-out slaughters. Talk about come from behind wins; William had it in the bag. Then he start rushing.

That AWM rifle sure was bad-to-the-bone. We got a kick out of seeing Kelly Blanchard standing next to George Reinas. Looked like the Wright flyer next to a Boeing C17.

Too bad Gabby couldn't stay. However, she was at a disadvantage since she was more of a handgun specialist. A little too much drama for me with the tearful goodbyes.

Not really a fan of William, but would have preferred him to stick around over Chris. Chris just rubs me the wrong way, but I can't pinpoint exactly what he does that drives me crazy. Was kinda nice to see Greg hit Will's target for "payback" as he called it. A good show and a close elimination challenge. Fortunately I missed the first 10 minutes and George.

Discussing who you are sending to the challenge has seemed stupid to me anyway. It is an individual vote, so the individuals should choose who they are voting for. Once they get out of the team challenge a group talk on who to nominate is completely inane.

William may have think he mastered all of the weapons he competed with, but he just got outshot by an IT guy. I shudder to think what a stop with with William as a VA State Trooper would be like.

I really hated to see Gabby go. I didn't expect it, considering how well she shot in the practice. She was mY favorite of all the shooters this year.

I think Colby jinxed her when he pointed out that she had gotten farther than any other shooter.

I have to agree with this...it makes no sense at all. I think Kyle is having a hard time getting out of the Team Mode...must come from being a Commander

I think Chris rubs some folks the wrong way for the same reason that Jay did. They don't fit the stereotype of what some folks envision as shooters. Jay was a golfer instructor and Chris was an IT guy...both are highly skilled and very competitive, but with a more intellectual/fundamental approach.

You'll notice that the slowest shooters were the most analytical...it took them longer to process the feedback from each shot

That really was an exciting finish, maybe one of my all time fave shoot-offs in Top Shot.

It was sad to see Gabby go but I just want to say this: I'm not sure MOST shooters could get a hit at 1500 yards in under 2:30 with a rifle they've only shot a few times at half that distance. ALL the top shot finalists impressed me there.

It was a legitimate test of skills and it was fair, still I was hoping to see Gabby stick around longer she's one hell of a shot.

Was suprised neither shooter had lever action experience... I tend to take it for granted every shooter has handled a lever gun.

It seemed that some sure took their time to get into position and then attempt to dope the wind instead of getting down fast and touching one or three off.

Cartoons were on anyway, much more entertaining than the top shooter circus, OR, Uh humm, A Reality show for gun enthusiasts..
