History Channel's "Top Shot" on Sunday night

It the show was just about shooting, and nothing else the THR readers would like it, everyone else in the world would hate it and the show would not come back for a second season. Because the show appeals to a wider group of people other than gun nuts it stands a chance to survive. I think the show strikes a good balance.

How much fun would it be to watch people drive trucks or catch crabs? Not much, but when you get to know the people, a little about themselves and the topic of the show you get engaged. Sure, I bet there are some truck geeks who say things like... "Ice road truckers would be a better show if they just stopped showing people and concentrated on shifting and truck technology...." but the show would not be a continued success if they just catered to truck drivers.

Like Mr. Davis said, this is a net positive for all of us.

I'm still enjoying the show. The last show was the best and Kelly did great. I think he would still be there if he had gone last instead of first.

Can't wait for the finally!

Good next to last episode. I hated to see Kelly go. I thought he was the sleeper in the whole group and would find a way to win. He shot first in this episode. Maybe they should not have allowed the other shooters to watch the competition as it progressed. Things might have been different and knowing that Kelly did not miss any targets hurt Kelly and helped the others.
+1

It definitely created an advantage for those going later in the round! It should have been run blind, and then each competitor would have to guess and gauge their OWN skill, without the benefit of knowing how and what each prior shooter had done.

This is the last day for entries for Season 2...I hope everyone who thought they could shoot better than Season 1 contestants were able to get their applications in

This show just got better. I've enjoyed the whole season, but I wish the whole season had been like the last episode. More shooting, less squabbling. I was also super excited to see Adam finally go, what a jerk.

The speed shooter showed that he probably doesn't practice marksmanship as much as he does run and gun.

To bad about Kelly, but his lack of confidence in his ability cost him time, and his spot.

I'm cheering for Pete in the final episode this week.

What's funny is, if the whole season was like this last show, we wouldn't have any background on anyone. Many wouldn't be pulling for Kelly because we wouldn't have seen all the crap he took. You wouldn't be happy for Adam to go because we wouldn't have seen all the "rat fink" stuff. We wouldn't have seen Pete and his goofy ties, etc.

I think the producers have done a good job of giving the casual viewer enough drama, and then ramping up the competition at the end for our crowd.

My one request would be more history on the weapons. Maybe even a wrap-up show, "The Weapons of Top Shot" or something like that.

Hey History Channel, if you go with that idea, I expect compensation! :D

Top Shot is the greatest show on earth! (Let me explain!)

My wife got hooked on it.
Next thing I know she asks to go to the pistol range on date night.
She's not only good, she had a great time.
We had so much fun we bought a 1yr range pass.
She said "Are these the only pistols you have? I thought you had more. Are there any others you want?"

I'm. In. Heaven.

Just make sure she doesn't get you to buy her all the guns she wants and then votes you off the show.

I was sad to see Kelly go. He had to eliminate most of the guys who were eliminated. He really earned making it that far. I was glad to see Adam go. Hiding behind his time in the Corps as an excuse to be a scheming scumbag was making me sick. He acted like Kelly was such a scumbag just because Kelly didn't like the scheming and backstabbing Adam was doing. In the Corps, we would have handled a guy like Adam. He is the one we would have gotten rid of, not Kelly.

The last stage where Kelly got eliminated did show some great shooting by the guys though. It's going to be interesting to see what the final stage is. I hope its something that really stresses shooting skill and doesn't get guys eliminated for something other than shooting like Kelly.

My kids love watching the show. As others have noted, even though the drama element turns off a lot of the firearms-savvy watchers, it lures in others and piques their curiosity as to what happens next.

I think they should have R. Lee Ermey as the host and make it a combination of Top Shot and Lock and Load!
+1

While I realize the general public isn't as into the guns aspect, it is a shooting show. I think a brief Lock N Load style historical tutorial on the various guns would be nice.

I think Colby was a terrible choice for host.

Is Colby an actual shooter, or just some guy they picked to be host?

He's never said if he is a shooter.

His claim to fame is that he holds a record from Survivor

You'll find host seldom have experience one shows, they are there to narrate, set up stages and add excitement for the viewing audience...think, the host from Iron Chef doesn't cook at any level close to the competitors

here is colby's bio from the TopShot site

Actor and adventurer Colby Donaldson, widely known as the record-breaking runner-up of Survivor: The Australian Outback, most recently appeared in Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains. He has been seen on many other TV mainstays, including Bones, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Just Shoot Me, Rachael Ray and Reba, as well as in Wes Craven's 2005 thriller Red Eye.

A self-taught welder and metal fabricator, Colby owns a hot rod restoration business, which he started after graduating from Texas Tech University with a degree in business marketing.

A competitive athlete, Colby particularly enjoys water skiing and mountain biking. His experience with guns and hunting began in rural West Texas, where he was born and raised. And that's exactly where you'll find him when he's not working in California. "Life is all about balance," he says. "The best way for me to offset the L.A. hustle is to load up my dog and head to the ranch to spend some quality time with my family, friends and Mother Nature."

i was rooting for kelly. if he hadnt have gone first he'd still be in.

now i think Pete is going to take it, if not the asian dude.

id love to see Hickock45 from youtube on this show, i think he would win easily :D

I entered. I doubt i will get chosen but i feel if you talk ISH... you better put up or shut up. I have no doubt i could equally compare with most of what these shooters have done.

Good Luck King, Let us know if you are selected.

If asked I would probably say Pete or JJ have the best chance at winning this thing. In all honesty though it is probably anybodies match. I will definitely be watching to see who takes it. I thought last weeks episode was the best yet.

I think the show format was necessary for its success. If it was all shooting, there probably wouldn't have been half the viewers. The drama was important to personalizing each shooter for the viewer. If it was all bang bang bang... you might as well watch the Outdoor Channel. I get bored with the shooting done on the Outdoor Channel, but the hunting shows are for the most part very good. The hunts get a little tiring also at times and is somewhat like listening to or watching Shawn Hannity every day.

He is also eye-candy for female viewers, (at least according to my wife :) ). Don't discount this either: We've been saying we want more woman shooters, and now there's a million women each week watching a show about guns and shooting.

now that they have gone into the individual competitions it seems to have become more about the shooting and less about Real World with guns. I personally am thankful for that.
