History Channel's "Top Shot" on Sunday night

Guns that i think they really need to incorporate to bring in people to view the shooting sports...

Modern Warfare type guns. Stuff that teens/young adults know like a 50 cal, 1911, M1 Garand, Glock, Steyr AUG, FN FAL....

Stop with this TZ crap... get some cool rifles, cool guns, some suppressed stuff... how about a Full Auto or 3rd burst round?.... They could do so much more with this and hopefully they learn and grow.

I also think they should use different guns every elimination and a brief description of what the gun is, what wars it was used in or what agencies currently use it. Something to grab some attention.

I had a feeling when they got to the final 3- JJ would struggle with the accuracy part. He's a speed shooter. He brutalzed chris in the plates, but shooting a 8" glass with a schoefield one hand at 50 yds is friggin tough.I also think it was a brilliant move to pick the da revolver for the beer mug shot. Again not in jj's forte.

I'm not at all surprised Ian won. Chris gave it a great try though. I think the show finished strong with the last two episodes.
Iain really made a good strategic decision with that DA choice. The name of that game was playing to your opponents weaknesses and he did that perfectly.

While I was rooting for JJ to win, I kind of had a feeling it was going to be Iain. He just seemed to always have the necessary determination and focus you would need to win such a competition at the end.

Good finale; right down to the wire. That was pretty dramatic just in and by itself. I also agree with others who would like to see more shotgun events, and maybe even some full auto stages. I did like the fact that they had to compete with a number of different weapons like the crossbow, longbow, and the throwing knives; definitely made it more interesting. Overall I was very entertained by the series and look forward to the next one.

yup they wound this one up well .. the "final four" fast paced last episode was great. Personally I think the overall formula was GREAT !! I hate drama as much as most people do - HOWEVER, this thread is now 33 pages long and people follow this every week. Also, look how many guys on here said their wives/ GF's were now watching, and now even wanting to shoot. The format I think really sucked people in - most of us watched for the guns. Some non-gun enthusiasts may have been "ohhhh a new reality show kewl" to begin with, then stayed because it was interesting. Regardless, it worked.

We sure needed something to put shooting and weapons out there in the public in a VERY positive light and get people interested - and they did with this one. Congrats to the History channel they have a winner in my opinion !!!!!

Hope they reformat next season to drop the drama and have each episode as exciting as the last two of season one, by far the best yet.

Now for next season.....perhaps a contest to see who has the best penmanship and can write "Top Shot" with a 100 round drum/ Thompson.

....maybe an "Elmer Keith" contest, 600 yard handgun shot with big bore pistols.

....for the grand finale, throwing razor sharp bowlers (like James Bonds "Odd Job" in "Goldfinger") at watermelon statues.

That would kill the show though. It would only appeal to shooters, and there are not enough of us to support a mainstream show.

At least the "drama" was only a day to day thing and you have to admit... the "drama" that these shooters have on their show is nothing like you would see on the other reality shows. Love the show, love the format.

Like someones Pa used to say... "If it ain't broke, don't fix it..."

I'm interested in seeing some of the changes that will be occurring in the next season. Perhaps more modern weapons will be included, and I would expect the venerable 1911 to make an appearance. However, one of the things I noticed being down there is that everybody was very concerned about safety with the shooting. This is why everything was being shot from a static position. USPSA is all about speed and movement, along with shooting targets from difficult uncomfortable positions. I would personally like to see people having to hit both moving targets, and having to get in and out of positions quickly. That would make for far more exciting TV than standing around, regardless of the weapon being used.

Check out BJ Norris from the Tulsa Pro-Am this year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNOwu5C3WFs Reactive targets are fun, especially with lots of pressure.

Well Top Shot is the first (and probably last) reality show I've ever watched.

Wait...Whale Wars is getting interesting! :what:
Izzat a reality show?

Guys some of you complain about the "drama", LOL.

If you don't like drama, go watch Shooting USA, Impossible Shots, Shooting Gallery, American Rifleman, etc on Wednesday nights. Much better shooting exhibited, and no drama.

Oh, yeah. Be sure to check out the long, active threads on those shows (if you can find one).

The show is not designed for most of you, get over it. Just because it involves guns, you might not be the target audience. Hard to accept I know, but let the less hardcore have their show.

I'll be shocked if the finale had less than 2 1/2 million viewers, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's three million.

That's probably more people than have watched Bob Munden, Tom Knapp and Annie Oakley combined.

More people watched the second-to-last episode of Top Shot than watched Mad Men on AMC, and it utterly destroyed Ochocinco's and T.O,'s "reality" shows.

This is a very good thing, because success breeds success. If you want Camp Perry, IPSC and IDPA championships on TV, it begins with Top Shot.

I'm betting a fair amount of fudging/editing went into the final matchup. No way with that many variables the last shot would be that close.

I really enjoyed this series as well. My wife who is semi-interested in shooting LOVED it. Although she loves the whole reality tv stuff (yuck!). It was great to be able to sit with her and watch a show about something that I love. My wife said to me after watching the show. I really hope they do a second season of this. I told her they were and she had big smiles, she even asked to go shooting with me when we can find a babysitter! win win for me!

My wife watched the show with me religiously. I took her shooting with me yesterday and we both realized how hard a lot of those shots were.

Is that why basketball and football games never go into Overtime or have last second game winning points?

I didn't get in to the show untill they ran the marathon on saturday. It was interesting enough that I wanted to see the finale. My wife watched some of it with me and she was really interested. We watched the last two episodes together.

Watching some of it on Saturday helped get her interested in a little .380 plinking. She hates the .380 we were shooting, but she is interested. She wants to try a Bersa Thunder or Bersa Thunder CC. (We were shooting my brother in law's Jiminez .380. I don't recomend it to anybody.)

I'm glad the show is out there. If it can help us get a few people to at least try shooting it is a great hing.

Ab-so-freaking-lutely.

It annoys me to no end to have people complain that our sport/passion isn't popular and that people don't take the 2nd Amendment seriously, and then turn around and bash a shooting show that's a TV ratings winner.

If you want people to get into shooting, you're going to have to realize that what they want and what they like may be different than what you like. Grow up, people.

Wonder Twin Rant Powers... Deactivate! (rant mode off) :D

So the last episode was awesome. If the whole season had been like that I would have been a much happier viewer. Either way it was a good show and I look forward to next season.

Now for the important stuff. What's Brad shooting now?

HA! Without the "drama" part of the show, you wouldn't know he said anything about his equipment preferences.

The drama stuff was important so viewers could choose their favorite. If it was all based on shooting, etc, it would have been boring to A LOT more people.

Brad is probably shooting himself in the foot for missing so many pistol shots. Or he's practicing with the Beretta using Kelly's face as paper target.

Sorry Brad if you're reading this.

it was more of a joke. He's made it pretty clear that he's making some changes.

From his facebook: "Yes, it's true. Switching from the Glock to try out my new CZ SP01 Shadow (thanks to CZ Custom for the parts since the gun isn't sold here in Cali!) Gonna start it up after the Steel Challenge which is likely my last big match with the G35."

My wife is watching "Big Brother" right now (Only because one of her former math students is on the show), and the differences between the contestants on that show and those on Top Shot couldn't be more glaring. Here are a bunch of whiny little children in adult suits acting like it's 4th Grade (or worse) all over again, and on Top Shot, under much the same circumstances (no tv, etc.), only one person showed any signs of questionable decorum and/or ethics

That speaks *volumes* for the shooting community.

I LOVED the show, drama and all. Embarrassing truth, I caught myself cursing at Adam (and rooting for Caleb; he did the right thing IMO) - I never yell at the TV, that's just dumb.

Anyway, I thought it was great and put the shooting sports in a very positive light so that we don't look like basement trolls obsessing (that's usually a bad thing) over loads, groups, etc.

Can't wait for Season 2. Oh, and I don't much care for the idea of going full auto - "pray and spray" and "marksman" just doesn't compute anymore that "marksman" and "mortar", IMHO.
