What's your favorite 22 magnum cartridge in long gun?

My question was vague so let me clarify.

I am trying to decide on best 22 WMR round (Brand, bullet weight, bullet design) for use in a 22 WMR rifle. Purpose would be shooting varmints, coyote, bobcat, and smaller.

That's a decision the rifle makes.
Exactly! I once took a single-shot 22MAg out with 8 different brands, including a 'then new' copper jacketed round from Federal. That round shot a 3" group @ 50-yards! I forget which was the best, but the best performing round had a group about the size of a dime ...
These both have a lot of merit. The hood news is there are a lot of good choices to try these days.

I do imagine that experience with performance in animals with different brands/types would be appreciated.

If 50 gr Federal shoot acceptably (to me) that is what I use nothing else rimfire smacks a hog harder. Me 597 Mag likes it a lot.

Other than that it is 40 gr MaxiMag TMJ. That one is for my Winchester 275.

Don’t really shoot anything else.

The heaviest hp or poly tip the rifle shoots well

Remington loads a 33gr AccuTip-V bullet in one of their 22 WMR loads. I killed a lot of groundhogs with that load from my Marlin 25MN. It rarely exited as the bullet expanded and fragment in most cases but I don't think I ever had a groundhog get away if I hit them. It did a number on them.

I only have 1 ,22 magnum rifle. The CCI maxi-mag 40 grain JHP or the Remington 40 grain JHP both seem to shoot very well from my rifle. The only varmints I have killed with those rounds are ground hogs and it has been a one shot game so far.
I have tried the 33 grain plastic tipped ammo and it seems to shoot fine but I would have to alter my sights and really don't want to do that as I am satisfied with the 40 gr. JHP ammo.

The CCI/Fiocchi 40 grain soft point is death on groundhogs. While I also like the 30 grain V-max and 40 grain HPs, I would think the soft point would be a better option for coyote sized game.

Out of my Ruger American Target rifle, the best results have been with 40 grain CCI hollow-points; the Hornady 30 grain poly-tip also groups well but shoots to a much different elevation than the CCI, so I have judged it best to stick with one or the other. YMMV!

My MGM 21" carbine barrel for my Contender just dolts on the .50 grain Federal offering. 1" groups or less at 80 yards ( my farthest distance on my home range) It is sure death on called in coyotes. I have yet to not drop a yote in it's tracks with this round. Our coyotes are quite large too! My biggest one last year went 53#.

My 9422M like the Federal 50 grain stuff. Iti s not really particular. I think the round is adequate for coyote size animals up to 50 yards.
That is really what I am looking for, a round that can handle coyote sized animals. I would rather be able to go out to 100 yards though. Will a 22 mag round such as the 50 g Federal HPnbe effective against coyote at 100 yds?

I bought a whole bunch of bricks of PMC 40 grain Predator many years ago from the Sportsman Guide. I still have some and it works great in my rifles. I have shot tons of rabbits and few coyotes with it. I know that some folks don't like, but it has been very accurate and deadly for me.

My Rugar American loves the cci 40 gn & fed 50's ... Unbelieveable group at 100 yds... My CZ's like the lighter 30's which really blows up gophers...
I tend to use the rugar most....

I have 3 different 22 magnum rifles. One prefers 30 grain VMax. one prefers 40 grain Winchester JHP and one prefers 50 grain Federal. You'll find that the 50 grain Federal doesn't expand much, if at all, and penetrates deeply.
