"Man, gun owners do eat their own, and relish it"

Mr. Gresham you said yourself he is a hunter not a shooter.

And what do you call his blog entry? He is willing to sell out shooters because he doesn't like how a gun looks. Who is eating their own here, really?

Well, I just talked to Zumbo. He's writing an apology right now.

I'm on the air right now. Gotta get back to it.

Lets not put all of the blame to Remington they didnt know that Zumbo would do something so idiotic and ignorant.
Zumbo is the idiot responsible for this mess.
The OL will lose alot of money and Remington too because of this fool.
Does not mean we should boycott Remington because of it.The solution is we should not pay for the magazine subscriptions to OL and they will consider firing Zumbo.
Either way I am satisfied with my Remington 870 express shotgun and my next gun purchase will be a AK.

There are some very accurate military type semi autos made in U.S.A. . Im temped to own a semi auto . But I do not understand why anyone would get a military or sporting firearm made in a commie country .The commies are provideing arms and ammo to people who now are killing our boys over seas. The more purchased by Americans allows the commies to sell to others for less.

+1

With that point of view I couldn't buy american made weapons since some of them were used by the IRA to kill British soldiers. Its the same logic.

No it isn't. What we're saying is that in the US, we shouldn't support an arms manufacturer that is selling weapons to the enemies of our countries. Especially should not be buying AK-47s to outfit the army of another country. Why in the name of the devil are we spending our tax dollars to do that? We could be supporting a US company instead of a Russian one.

And I am pretty certain that the IRA used AK-47s as well as anything else they could get their hands on. Besides, you don't open up IRA weekly and see the good ol AR-15 for cheap ads, do you? I don't think we're marketing to them.

As to to the OP, I think that the guy is simply venting some sentimentality on the subject. Just like the revolver vs semi auto debate, he is resistant to change. You can say what you want, I figure he's an old timer, and what he said I feel is forgivable.

So . . . what is the goal here?

Destroy Zumbo?

Destroy Remington?

Explain this issue to Zumbo and have him come around? (What fun would THAT be?)

Use this as a prompt to engage in outreach to all aspects of the shooting community?

Man, gun owners do eat their own, and relish it.

No sir, we are POLICING OUR OWN.

No, Jim is not on hold. I just called him during a break. Talked for 45 seconds before I had to go back on the air.

He's not going on the air. He's busy writing an apology.

We might . . . just might . . . want to read what he has to say in his apology.

Sorry Mr. Gresham, am I supposed to believe an apology only AFTER he draws down a world of hurt on himself? Am I supposed to believe he found an deeper understanding of the Second Amendment while on the hunt? I don't think so. No doubt the only reason for this apology is because of the pressure we as a group have put on his sponsors. My bet is you weren't the first to call him and tell him about the response. I'll be his sponsors beat you to it.

An apology won't cut it. He let his true feelings be known when there wasn't any pressure on him. You can get just about any man to bend when you exert enough pressure on him.

What does an apology mean when it comes from financial pressure.

If only we could be this active when congress floors another AWB...

We didn't have the internet in '94. Maybe things will be different this time around if folks out there can channel their efforts into contacting their congresscritters to speak against gun control.

My $0.02

Yep, I would say thats right.... 2A Advocates cannot tolerate any kind of dissension, it will hurt our cause beyond repair. Once it is gone, we will never get it back. It is life or death.

So, we have a one-strike-and-you're-out policy and death sentence?

No mistakes allowed.

Wow.
People are a bit techy, given that the AWB renewal bill was introduced into committee last week, ok?

But we do owe ANYONE the right to defend himself - let's hear what the man has to say...

If he had a track record of supporting the 2nd then he might get some leeway. However, you said yourself, he sees himself as a hunter not a shooter.

So what has he done for the protection of gun rights, other than stand by you, Mr. Gresham, during a few arguments?

The only thing I have seen from him are statements that would be gladly picked up by the VPC.

Remington Connection

Gentlemen,

Remington seems to be distancing themselves from Zumbo and Outdoor Life in a commendable way; however, not only is Remington cited in the article....have a look at the bottom of the Outdoor Life/Zumbo blog page. A Remington ad is what you see while you are ready to post a comment.

That probably explains some of the negative feeling being sent Remington's way.

You don't know what he meant by "terrorist rifles" come on!

ETA: You're letting personal feelings get in the way. His comments were over the line. Too far over the line when we live in a world where we rarely get gun rights victories.

The world will get along just fine with one less hunting writer.

Wow.

Its interesting that you borrow a turn of phrase from Baseball, as though this were a game.

In the real world, what happens to those who provide willful aid and comfort for the enemy? (Or in this case carry water for them.)

I'd rather have Zumbo roughed up here than see him testify in front of the House Judiciary Committee and help start a real shooting war. Moving fast and hard on this sort of thing is the only way to keep the wost from happening.

Eating their own?

How can you say that about a response to a "feed them to the sharks" article like Mr. Zumbo did?

I realize that he is your friend, but he is dead wrong and you have to accept that.

Wow.

If all he had said was "I don't see why a hunter needs an AR15," I'd try to give him the benefit of the doubt and educate him. But what he wrote was the kind of vitriolic bilge I expect to hear in a Schumer press conference or read on the VPC website. He didn't just cross the line, he took a big flying leap.

He's certainly not "one of our own," and judging by what he wrote, he never was.

He didn't accidentally spill coffe on someones paper work where you can say sorry and it be heart felt. He spoke his true feelings. Any sorry from him only means he is sorry his sponsors are mad at him.

He called for the divorce of hunters from AR15 owners. He's the one eating his own and the main problem. You don't see black rifle owners talking about banning .22's (worthless for hunting) or blackpowder (just silly, why the coonskin hat?)
Firearms owners MUST stick together. He's the betrayer, not us. And his apology will do about as much good as Sarah Brady saying "I'm sorry, I was wrong"
