I have Chig's Grips on that SP101. He does great work making scales for the classic grip style.
I've been on a maple kick lately: Red maple burl on the SP and quilted maple burl on the GP. Sustainable and generally non-allergenic as compared to some exotic hardwoods. I'll post up a pic later this week of some maple by Tim's grips that I recently had worked up for a Blackhawk in .44 special
P.S. S&W has an 8-shot 627 .357 snub "Ultimate Defensive Revolver" as featured in Clint Eastwood's "Blood Work". There is a grail model out there pre-lock, but I haven't seen one in person.
It is the 627-Performance Center, a 2.5" barrel built on the N-frame. This gun strikes me as VERY well made, enough so that I can look past the fact that it has a lock.
boricua9mm: Thanks! I have handled one of those, and nearly bought one. The real debate for me is 357 vs 44! For some crazy reason I overlooked the lock and thought it was an earlier production gun. Still a very nice one to the collection!
I found a 66-5 here a few weeks ago for what seemed like a nice price. In the time it took me to waffle over the purchase it sold. Very neat guns & I'm a big fan of factory fiber optics. Hope I get the opportunity again to own one.
Since it's a photo thread my new 29-4 Lew Horton with factory magna-port Ordered a set or Kurac combat grips that hopefully will be finished in the next few weeks. It is somewhat sad that I can purchase custom grips for less than what the factory combats sell now!
S&W Model 638-2. The original Bodyguard. Box says it shipped in June of 1996. First dash built on the J-Magnum airwieght frame, so +P is not a problem. Last dash before the lock. Frame mounted firing pin. The Uncle Mike Boot Grips add nothing in the way of bulk and are very comfortable. These grips were factory at the time, strangely, they're no longer being manufactured.
S&W 38 Double Action 3rd Model. Likely made in 1886. Just in time to share a birthday with the invention of Coca-Cola. Unforturnaly, it's not quite the "real thing". Was re-nickered sometime before 1955 (when it was already 69 years old). Trigger, hammer, trigger guard, and stirrup latch should be case hardened/blued.
