What is your "Lemon Gun/Guns" ?

Mine is a Sig Trailside, parts of it keep breaking off. It is in my safe now, after being repaired by Sig, again, before they dumped it. I am afraid to shoot it anymore. It might be a good time to sell it.

Bersa Thunder

Slide would'nt cycle / trigger wouldn't move the hammer after about 400 rounds. Same problem after a trip to the gunsmith.

Went and got a Bulgy Mak and never looked back.

Barretta 950

i got a barretta 950 auto in .22 short and i think it shot 4 times (rounds) and gave up............ cute little auto but worthless........

1- AR-7 Survival rifle in any version. A defacto bolt action. Don't expect it to do anything right or be able to hit anything with it.

My AR-7 (AR-7 Industries) was one of the ones that gave me some trouble when I first got it. A little tweaking of the feed ramp on the magazines (to fix failure to feed) and finding the right ammo (needs hi-velocity ammo to cycle the action reliably) and it's 100% reliable.

I even mounted a 4x scope on mine and use it as a plinker.

After taking it apart dozens of times while trying to figure out how to make it more reliable (I'm a tinkerer by nature) I came to really appreciate the rugged simplicity of the design. There are very few parts to it and it can be detail stripped and reassembled with only a coin for a tool. The ease of changing the stock and barrel also lend it to many customization options. I have plans to design a more comfortable wood stock for mine.

You can PM me if you'd like any assistance/advice to get yours running better. :)

Mossberg 702 plinkster

from the factory had a floated barrel and synthetic stock. all kinds of .22 ammo would " pie plate" around the target. tried a wood stock and bedding and still sucked.

I dont have a lemon gun yet :D All I have gotten was a jam in my 702 plinkster.

Rem. 597 in 22lr. Poor accuracy and frequent jams. Tried all the suggested fixes.

Stevens 311 sxs 20ga. I read an article that said all cheap sxs's were cross-eyed. I patterned the gun (for real - from a rest). Sure enough, it was WAY cross-eyed. I know the patterns have to cross eventually, to get both bbls on one POA, but this thing was a good foot r to l and a good foot l to r.

Jennings-22, failure to extract sometimes. I've found if you take your time and hold it very firm you might only get one FTE out of the seven rounds in the mag.

Various Taurus pistols. All older model revolvers.

Llama .380 Micromax. Looked great but was always breaking down.

Rossi .357 revolver. Older model, I don't remember which. Worked for about 2 weeks then crapped out.

Won't be purchasing any of those brands anytime soon.

1. Charter Arms .357 Mag Pug

I knew this would be a low quality gun, I bought it on the fly to use as a carry piece until my desired carry piece showed up. $300. After about round 100 the cylinder would lock up when firing DA, almost to the point where you would have to turn the cylinder with your hand to help it out.
So, I sent it to Charter Arms for repair. $100 later, they did fix it. But it wasn't worth the shipping. I sold it to a buddy for $250, who then offloaded it at a gun show for $200.

2. Ithaca M37 "Police" Shotgun

Bought this as an impulse buy from a police auction. $240. [Edit=fixed this: 7+1] shot, one of those "slam-fire" prison specials. Real good condition. I found out why. Any and everything I shot through it would stick in the chamber. I tried polishing the bore, replacing the extractors, that gun would not fire reliably. Some gun show vendor owns it now.

3. Sig Sauer P250

Bought this for $700 brand new. I was looking for a .45 that had a hammer and had more than 7 rounds. That DAO trigger was about 18lbs, and the handgun consistently shot low and to the left. It got off loaded for $400 (yeah, I got stiffed) which I used to buy a P-3AT and some other stuff.
Oh, and after this, then I found out about the FNP-45. Best .45 I've ever owned. Love that pistol. :)

A friend had a Charter Arms AR-7. Wouldn't fire OR feed reliably. If you are depending on one of these for survival, you might as well put the muzzle in your mouth and hope it goes off, because you are DOOMED.

My lemon gun was a Brno ZOM-451 straight pull bolt action 22. These were made just as the company was going under and were tossed together without proper fitting. It took hours of sanding, stoning and polishing to get the bolt smooth enough to operate with one hand. Then it had feeding problems, which a new, very hard to get magazine didn't fix.

Walther P22.

While I had it I experienced FTF, FTE, 3 point jams, stove pipes, light strikes, mag falling out, hammer not falling completely, slide locking back with a full mag. and a few other things I can't remember.

Other than that I've had pretty good luck.

Llama 9mm, a 1911 clone. Bought it as a project gun and it has beaten me into the ground. Absolutly refuses to extract the fired round. Tried new extractors, polishing, etc. The extractor won't pull it out but if you hold the gun muzzle-up it will fall out by itself!

I've been lucky I guess. Only gun I've bought that gave me trouble is my Taurus PT 709 slim. Sent it back and has been fine ever since.

I'm buying a S&W M&P9 pro series today{used}, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :uhoh:

I've had two lemons, both from Taurus.

Taurus 617-the hand broke and would not advance the cylinder. Went back to the factory then I traded it.

Taurus PT145 Milennium Pro-The firing pin lock (some sort of safety mechanism) broke off and fell into the firing pin channel on the second magazine. Gun stopped firing and I noticed the rounds were getting light strikes. Gun went back to the factory, then I traded it too.

2 Beretta/Uberti firearms; One Schofield replica in .38 special and the other a Smith & Wesson #3 replica in 45 Colt. Neither functions smoothly, and you can't hit the broadside of a barn with either.

AMT DAO Backup in 380. No FTE or FTF like the others but I get no kapow about every other mag. Looks like light strikes, if I pull the trigger a couple of times, it eventually goes kapow. I bought it to keep in a cash box just in case but I can't trust this thing. It's been to 2 different gunsmiths and it's no better. I bought an aftermarhet spring kit to use a stiffer spring but then the trigger pull felt like 84lbs. I took a full length spring and started to cut one loop off at a time. No luck, either it's too hard to pull or it wont work. (try stripping one of these things down 8 time in one day!

Funny thing is, I like shooting it. I can hit what I'm aiming at at 5yds. It has a heft (that I like) for a tiny gun. If I could buy a ruger LCP, (I'm in Ca) I would.

The Rifle.
I bought a Marlin 336 with an 18" barrel that was scope monted. I figured I could pull the scope and mount sell it and make some of my money back. I mean with an 18" barrle on it I wasn't going to use it to make shots over 100yards? I found out the reason the scope was on it was the thing wouldn't hit the paper at 50yards with iron sights. Traded it off later.

The Shotgun
I wanted a Ithica M37 with the parkerized finnish for years. Mel Tappen said they were the one to have. I found one at a local shop and picked it up. Took it to the range and when I sent the pump handle forward on the first round, all the other shells came spilling out of the loading port. I took it back and they were going to have it fixed. Picked it up three weeks late, took it home and tried a dry run with it. Same results. Back to the shop and they would have there TOP Gunsmith work on it. Two weeks later it still didn't work. At that point I asked for a refund and got it.

The Pistol
In the rush of first Assult weapons ban I picked up a Springfield 1911A1 Mil Spc. I had fired one at the local rental place and they seemed to be a dang good gun for the money. I took it out and shot it and the thing shot like 2 feet low. I called SA and they said it was most likly the rear sight so they sent me a replacement. It didn't fix a thing. In field stripping it I found that the rear of the slide was tighter (like the slide rails were pinched in ward) at the rear of the slide. I called them and they said to send it to them. They have it right now so we will have to see how this one turns out?

There were many others I am sure. For a while I would buy it and if it didn't shoot well or I didn't like the preformance I would just sell it off right away. I had a BM59 that went that way. A Beretta 92 I bought at a range and sold back at a loss less then 2hrs later (it never even left the building). Some times it seem I buy a gun and let it sit in the safe more then I shoot them.
