August-September 2019 military surplus handgun 10 shot challenge

Ya, the front sight on this Helwan is almost non-existent. I can certainly see where the philosophy of the pistol being a “weapon of last resort” carried over into this handgun design.... well that and the double-digit SA trigger pull. I felt like I was trying to crack a walnut with my trigger finger so any sort of trigger discipline went flying out the window. Heck, I’m thrilled to have hit the paper of the B-16 10 times out of 10 at thirty feet, much less put them all into the colored rings. :what: I stayed with 10 yds, at 25 yds I would have had better luck with a Mossberg shockwave and a load of 00 buck!

I have a case of 124 fmj on the shelf, if I decide to take it out again before the end of the contest I’ll give them a shot.

I say give the ‘ol .380 a try, you never know how well you’ll shoot until you do .

Stay safe.

I was recently in a local gun store I never visited before, I was floored by how much old guns he has. Never saw a local gun store with that kind of old and used inventory. But he had three very very VERY nice Lugers lowest price was $2500.00 I was just like dang dang DANG!!!!!!!! should I destroy my credit card balance and curse myself for months in payments or have a bit of sanity --><-- and walk away, I walked away going dang dang dang!!!! not gonna happen for this challenge LOL.

When do we get to see your 1911?

Soon I just got it yesterday. I sent a certified check to save off the credit card fee which took time, and my gun store had told me " we will call you when we process it even if it shows received". Well after five days of showing received I called them yesterday and they said " oh yeah come and get it".:scrutiny:

It was one of those listings where pics didn't do it justice, looks way better in person......almost to the point where my " oh man this thing is so nice shooting it might hurt the collectible status" mentality clicked in. Guy wasn't kidding when he rated it at 96%. I'll get pics up sometime and YES I'm gonna put rounds through it.

Can't shoot until maybe next Sunday got alotta things going on. Didn't do any shooting last couple weeks my cat was sick and needed surgery so last couple weeks was all about him, but it's all good now except the vet bill.

My dad would say kill two birds with one stone and try out the pistol on the cat... but I like kitties. Hope he feels better soon.

Gonna try to get to the indoor range Sunday and get some targets done, with the weather lately forget the outdoor one. But with this hurricane on the way it is all up in the air. Fortunate that I'm on the west coast but still gonna get some of it, may be out of power for a couple days. Praying for those on the east coast.

CZ 52 7.62X25mm , the sights aren't bad for a military surplus handgun, but indoor shooting which is what I did the lower light doesn't help. I think this gun is capable of being more accurate than my try, which not having much ammo I only did one attempt. Feel of the gun is good, trigger is decent, recoil with PP ammo is light. I have barely shot this gun since I got it years ago but now bringing it out again I'm glad I got it.

Don't know why but most of my surplus handgun shoot low, always have to aim high, both my P38 and this CZ are that way. Which also makes for less accurate target shooting. If I filed the front sight to a 6 o clock hold on target I bet this CZ could do some nice groups.

When do we get to see your 1911?

1945 Remington Rand 1911A1 with M1 carbine Camillus bayonet. Was going through a box of dads badges today he collected while in the army. Included in the photo his personal Gary Owen unit and combat infantryman badge earned while in Korea. A couple of photos of him, posing with a M1 or M2 carbine in Korea and a photo of him (far right lefty shooter) on the pistol team he shot competition pistol in the army. Haven't shot it yet but will try to before the end of the challenge.

greetings,

here is my effort with my Kongsberg Colt (Norwegian) M1914 11.25mm (45 ACP) made in 1925
it is a 1911 pattern, with the tiny little front sight that gives my tired eyes an absolute fit

don't think I'll try this at 25 yds - the sights had me pretty well defeated at 15 yds

I didn't shoot the others because of the tiny sights, or the POI was so far off the POA
never the less - it was educational!

thanks for this challenge!!! :)
