For fans of the shooting show Top Shot, the new season starts Wednesday...on the History Channel. The new season is titled All-Stars and brings back shooters form previous seasons.

The was a lot of rumors about the show not returning after the latest call for Gun Control, but I'm glad to see the producers were brave enough to bring it back.

I've found Top Shot to be a great introduction for new shooters and fence sitters to our hobby and presents shooters in a very positive light to a previously non-targeted demographic

Good luck Greg Littlejohn. He is a very nice guy and a great competitor. I cannot wait to see it. I know quite a few don't like the show, but it is one of he few that dosen't make shooting sports and firearms out to be bad. The competitions are a little weird sometimes and we all know the drama is scripted, but still a decent shooting show....

While everything on TV has manufactured drama anymore, I do like the creative shooting set ups. There are definately worse "gun" shows on the idiot box.

It's just another Stupid, Staged, Reality Show!
Having personally known a couple of the participants, I'd offer that this isn't staged at all.

The producers do tend to guide/influence the behavior...removing all phones/players/video games, internet, reading material, television and radio...to encourage interaction. And of course, they have final editing control, but most everything you see is just normal interpersonal interaction

I didn't realize I had to perform at a certain level to find a tv show dull. What scores do I have to shoot in what sports before I may have an opinion sir?

Boring, and "reality" show stink

The host is a tool, and the CONSTANT replay of what happened a few minutes ago is TOO boring to sit through again, and again, and again.

And I am sure I perform at the level of most on that show, that is not the point of a show called "TOP SHOT".

These should be names that are VERY well known [ where is Jerry Miculek ?] and the rest of the really TOP SHOTS ?.

And throwing knives and hawks is lots of fun [ yes I do it ] but NOTHING to do with being a top shot.

And the "reality show" aspect is SO overdone on all channels and all show, including "gator killers & hog killa's" that I feel embarrassed for those that are enduring this charade.

Might sound silly, but I was watching "TOP SHOT" to see who was the best of the best. Not who could over act and still be an unkown.

About as reality show based as "the walking Dead".

I like trying to replicate some of the challenges at my range. Can't wait for the season to start. I'm glad it wasn't canceled after the recent hullabaloo.

Season 4 seems a little early for an all stars season.

I 2nd that! We watched the entire season 3 with Mike Hughes, one of the last 2 or 3 contestants that season. Also a former schoolmate of mine. The show is not staged. It was discussed many times.

I am always amused by those that say "Well, if it's really Top Shot then where is Jerry Miculek etc, etc, blah, blah". These people apparently have no idea that the concept of the show is finding "Top Shots" that are non-professional shooters. Pro's like Miculek already have their reality shows, they are called "competitions" and "championships". It really calls into question whether or not these people have actually seen more than a basic preview of the show they want to bad mouth.

I suspect a lot of times people just have to stoke their egos by claiming to hate reality television when they are probably really just hiding the fact that they don't want to give up watching re-runs of Jersey Shore to watch a shooting show.

There is a reason this show is done reality show style: people just shooting holes in paper is boring as hell!

I watched some of it, and did not find it boring. These folks are good!

Anyway, 9mmepiphany has a great point about it being a good way to draw in new shooters while showing existing shooters in a positive way.

The other thing I like, is that non-cop/military guys have proven to be as good or better as the SEAL/SWAT/veteran guys. I think they expose how a lot of organizations program non-existent levels of competence, and how if you bring in a guy who hasn't been conditioned for years and told how good or bad he is, he won't go in with those limitations in mind.

I might have to get my cable reconnected for the next couple of months. It may not be a perfect show, but 9mm is right: it exposes people to shooters and shooting in a positive light and we all know we can always use that.

You don't...

...but when you post a statement without explanation, it is likely that it would be interpreted as something you can already accomplish, especially on a gun forum, than that you find shooting competitions which attract new supporters to our cause not worth watching.

This latest post still doesn't really give us much to go on of why you find it boring

Now I can see that some folks don't like the replays, but the super slow mo is really attractive to folks just getting into shooting as well as folks who just haven't been expose to it before. The host is a strong 2A supporter and quite a good shot himself ( I believe he is from TX)

These should be names that are VERY well known [ where is Jerry Miculek ?] and the rest of the really TOP SHOTS ?.
I know of a couple of those folks who have submitted applications for the show (the one that comes to mind is Randi Rogers) and their have been many World Class shooters on the show every season.

One reason you wont see some Big Names on the show is that they have real world commitments to their sponsors which wouldn't allow their participation. Plus there are property rights conflicts for others (Hickock45 comes to mind)

Might sound silly, but I was watching "TOP SHOT" to see who was the best of the best. Not who could over act and still be an unkown.
Well you also have to remember that well known shooters have more to lose then relative unknowns (who remembers the first person out during Season 1; he's a big name in the training community). Plus $100k isn't that much money to folks already making a living as sponsored shooters.

I think one of the attractions of the show is that each season has been won by a non-professional shooter. The top LEO shooter on the show came in 2nd during Season 1; the top pro shooter came in 3rd

I will give it a second chance. I enjoyed the first season, then the drama was poured on during the second season. I have not watched it since, but the fact that it is still on is good because that means the GENERAL PUBLIC supports the program, and is in no small way a contribution to our success of late battling gun control advocates. Perhaps more CO, NY and CT residents should watch the program.

(OT - I really enjoy the show Elite Tactical Unit because they do some great shooting challenges but they all respect, and treat each other like brothers (and sisters) and it is refreshing for a reality show.)
