Heads Up WA State Alien Firearms License Holders

I think it would be on a much larger scale, nationally, not locally...
Is where it should be too IMO. Once a legal immigrant has gone through the proper channels they should be treated as a citizen when it comes to rights for, and firearms in particular. Until such background check etc. has been done no gun purchase.
Guys like you MD that are here legal and are upstanding folks, etc , etc, should be treated as everyone, but I personally think in todays world those checks are in order, and not just anyone with a green card can or should have the privilege to purchase firearms.
It's not fair to someone trying hard to be/stay within the law to have to deal with on a local level. What if you move to another county in the same state? National permit, for immigrants allowing or refusing, then follow state laws from there, sounds like the way to me.

I have no problem with agencies checking my background, I'm a guest here essentially, with intent on staying. I play by the rules, even though the rules sometimes have my head spinning.

One thing that is really annoying is all the different agencies have no idea what any other one is doing, it is great for a self propagating bureaucracy, but it tends to get nothing done, ie drive shaft is spinning, but the wheels ain't turning...

Well said, I have not lived in another country but that is a typical SNAFU here. Welcome to America MD, it could be worse.
I got in a mess once that took me several months to get straightened out. Real long story short. Over 25 years ago I was arrested, detective came down to Jail talked to me drove me home with apologies,( accusations in a child custody fight) no court appearance of any kind, Brady bill comes along, I was denied????? ***????? it fell back to that arrest that was never adjudicated(SP) IE. I never went to court. OMG took me months of writing letters and phone calls to two states from the attorney general on down to get it fixed. Driving to the state capital, trips to the dept. of Justice, being finger printed etc etc . In the mean time I think I was illegal by having the guns I had owned 35 years. What a mess Gov. can be. Finally got in touch with the right person and it was all fixed in less than 24 hours. And lets not talk about how upset,, no lets call it ANGRY!!!! I was about the whole mess.....I still kinda am 15 or so years later. Like I said Welcome to my country, where at times, in government circles, the lights are on, but nobody is home.

Willington,

You need to sue the state to get this law struck down. I think I'm going to make a jaunt to the state archives sometimes soon and read up on the Legislative history of the AFL statute. I'm willing to bet it has racist intent written all over the newspapers of the era.

The appellate court in Hernandez-Mercado stated that the state's case was weak, but Hernandez-Mercado's lawyer was even weaker on the subject. It looks from the court case that they were trying to find a way to strike down the statute but the defendant (Mercado) did not give any information on court cases on this subject. As far as I know, only Washington and *maybe* Massachusetts has Alien Firearm License laws like this, plenty similar laws have been struck down.

Wish I could sue them... but it is not in the cards for me right now. I have $20 to my name until payday... at that point I will have $150 disposable income, of which the majority of it will go to gasoline and vehicle maintenance.

:cuss: STICK A FORK IN ME... I'M DONE :cuss:

Back to post #1...

Received more emails and it just ain't gonna happen, guess I'm taking up basket weaving...

I could add more words but that would get me in trouble...

Cordially bummed out

MD

Well been a while, I'll give you a heads up...

I have been contacted by Cathy McMorris Rogers office...

This Cathy McMorris Rogers: http://mcmorris.house.gov/

I now have a Request For Congressional Assistance pending.

I have also been contacted by the office of Maria Cantwell for filling out Privacy Act paperwork... though they have not called me back yet

I'm not sure how this will play out, the plan is still the same if nothing happens before August 20th.

Consider storing the firearms in ID or OR.

At least you can shoot them there on the weekends.

Of course, having to drive to Hermiston or CDA just to shoot sucks ...

Thanks Kbarrett.

I'm close enough to ID that I can walk there & my friends house is within walking distance over in ID...

Even a local police officer in ID and others locally just shake their heads when they hear about my predicament... usual response, "Doesn't the government have bigger things to worry about?"

I feel for you, MD - I've been defenceless in Texas here now for the past 2 years - don't even have my green card yet, still going through the process
