.42MOA is the width of the group helz_mcfugly. The overal group size is .84MOA, center-to-center, according to OnTarget. I never did break out the calipers for this one since the software is seldom incorrect.

nbkky71. Ive never seen anyone shoot a sub MOA group with iron sights at 100 yards before is why i questioned it. I dont doubt those are two groups so I wouldnt rule that out. Ive seen the other groups that people are questioning and they are far from being clear groups as yours are, more like 20 holes all over the place. I was just floored that anyone could shoot that well without optics at that distance. Even with optics I only get those kind of groups every now and then.

No need to bend the rules on my behalf FlyinBryan. I clearly fired more than 10 rounds, so I'll remove myself from consideration. Problem solved.
to clear things up here, it wasnt a problem. I would let it be an entry as everyone can tell wihtout question its two groups. I just question things ive never seen before. doesnt everyone? I wasnt grilling. just questioning. no harm done. I dont guess Ive researched the competitions enough to have seen anything like that. I only wish there were someone at our range that could even get close to that so they could give us tips. so nice shooting, best ive ever seen without optics.

So now that youve posted those and outed yourself as a surgeun behind that AR youre gunna have to give us tips, other then the Krieger bbl. like what sights are you using? can you get tighter groups benchrest? show us the way mang.

well, something has to be done for one simple reason.

that is the most amazing feat of marksman ship ive ever seen.

i am adding a "top marksman" award, and it will be on the scoreboard. everyone who has fired a target and posted a pic, regardless of rules, distance, equipment, will be considered. i will choose, update the scoreboard, and this position will be open to all competitors entries till 6pm on july 6.

the reason is simple. .8 irons. you just cant ignore that.

i also have to say, of the three that didnt get allowed into the regular classes, nbkky, shvar, and m16_man, have been great sports about it.

the other two,,,,,,,not so much. including one that said he was pm'ing a moderater. never heard anything back so i dont know if he did.

Gentlemen,
I am not a participant in this match, but have been watching in amazment at the high level of markmanship displayed by all of the shooters.
The rules seem to have gotten in the way a couple of times but my hat is off to Bryan for his handling of those situations.
Good shooting all & good on you Bryan.

thx hud. sometimes something comes along that you just cant ignore.

i agree, the skill of some of these guys is absolutely incredible.

all three 100 yard scoped leaders are sub m.o.a. , and for ten shot groups thats incredible!!!!!!

it is not only a testament to the abilities of our shooters, but the amazing ar15's abilities.

now ive got to look into those kreiger barrels.

Well, thank you for the accolades but they're really not needed. The planets happen to be in alignment that day and I shot a good group.

...and no offense taken on my part as to the questioning. ;) Just wanted to give a clear & honest description as to what I did.

As to how I did it? having a good rifle and practice... lots & lots of practice. I've also been fortunate to have had some good coaching over the years from some very accomplished shooters. I try to dry fire once a week indoors, I shoot live-fire for a couple hours each Sunday and I shoot a NRA highpower match once a month. This month I'm in high-gear as the National Matches are just around the corner. I'm chasing that Distinguished Rifleman's badge and I'll be up against nearly 1,000 other guys trying to do the same.

There's really nothing magical about my rifle either. It's a Bushmaster XM15E2 lower with a Geissele NM trigger and an A2 upper from John Holliger at White Oak Precision. Sights are 1/2MOA with a .052" front and a pinned & hooded rear using a .042" aperture. I've added a buttstock and handguard weights, bringing the weight to around 16# which really steadies the rifle. Again, the Krieger barrel is new too.

Now I'll have to break out my M1 Garand and see how it shoots in the "Century" match! :)

Yes, im shooting my garand in that too.

question? you dont shoot like that with your garand???do you??? >:)

I got back from shooting today with some different reloads (bullets). It turned out to be a total waste of time. :fire: Just working them up until book max or pressure sign. Only made it to book max so that is good because I hate pulling. I was sighting in a low budget CenterPoint scope with supplied rings too at 100 yards. I had a couple of groups that things started to vetical string. Checked things and the rings that came with the scope were loose as a goose on the picatinny. Tightened best I could and the next five shots point of aim moved over 1 1/2 inches to the left. :banghead: These don't have thumb screws so they were making me gun shy after shooting. About middle of charge weight things opened up big time, sure enough things were really loose again. :banghead: Retightened and shot next charge weight, put 3 into 1 hole but the next 3 strung vertical making it a .687 group for 6 shots. Retightened and put next 4 into a .31 center to center group making the total for 10 at 1 inch. :banghead: I'm going to have to revisit these all over again and see what else can happen. I decided to pick up before somebody got hurt. lol The motorcycle ride after put me at peace. :D

I hope to have another couple of entries before the contest ends but time is running out and the Blue Angels demonstration is going to put a serious hurting on my shooting.

We've got the USAF Thunderbirds on Sat & Sun, and they practice tomarrow when they fly in!! Love the 4TH of July! Since I live a Mile from the Airport-National Guard Base, the neighborhood is a front row seat, and the noise never gets old:cool:
