Fantastic shooting! Gonna be a real bitch topping those groups, especially in this Hot, Humid, Windy, weather were having right now. Did you shoot off a bipod? Leadsled?:D

Dont fret fellas, anything is possible. I am sure that my group will be bettered by someone before it's over with. Will try tinkering with the load someday but I can assure you it's not easy getting consistant 10 shot groups. The rifle is bone stock other than the Magpul PRS.

These were fired from a bag front rest and a bag in the rear. JDGRAY, I see that you are from Michigan so you dont know what hot is:p:D, it's been dipping into the 100's here for over a month now. :what:

I am hosting a few young men later this week at my place to have some fun at LR and shooting some big stuff so I cant try to better the group until late next week if at all.

Man....Even your hot, is better than mine:D:neener:

i spent about 6 months in miami back in the late 80's.

i install the control wiring on web printing presses and put a couple of monsters in a plant. the name of the outfit was a.d. wiess printing.

it was actually in hollywood.

i loved it. took my girl with me, walked up and down the beaches at night, and went to a club called "summers on the beach"

best time of my life. (except for the night foghat played there and i had a few too many kamakazi's and fell out of a palm tree, slightly injuring my ribs)

Went back to the range this last weekend, it rained every time I tried to leave the house, when it stopped I got there to the trees over the benches raining yet. After 3 shots I scraped a tick off of my ankle and lost all nerve to make tight groups for the day.
Oh well, maybe some other time.

I thought I read a rule dubbleA that you couldn't tinker any more with your gun and the loads it likes until July 6th or later. lol

By the way, what is the scope that is on your rig?

JBH Most likely not going to do anymore shooting with that one as I am too busy loading for my youth shoot tomorrow, Friday and Saturday. Scope is a Leupold MK 4 8.5x25.

lmfao ^^^^

down here in miami temp went to 110's and humid around 89%....

I saw that Miami broke the offical high temp June 22, 2009 with a whopping 98 degrees.:neener:

Good luck with the shoot and nice scope. I hope to get back out Thursday or Friday and try a CenterPoint out that I just got.

doubleA. what twist barrel is that and what powder did you use? also, did you build your load up or jsut load some up by some laod data.

Another hot one here.........

Was a brisk 102 degrees today. :fire: actual air temp, not heat index:what:

Helz, the barrel is a 1:8 twist and the load I shot is a 1/2 grain under Hodgdon's starting load with Varget with a 50 gr bullet. Hope this helps.

it does thanks. i mostly use varget. I just loaded some 55 grain hornady with 27.5 grains of BL-6 im use em on class 1 and 2. I dont have the optics to beat that class 4. you killed that one. I have a 9X leapold. its an awesome scope but i need more power to touch some bus MOA groups like that. and probably a match bull bbl. very good shooting for a stock rifle. gunna have to look into those.

thats my shootin bud helz, leading class 3. i expect to see him win at least 2 classes of this tournament, and am planning to tp his house if he doesnt. my brother has a really big ladder and wants to do it regardless, but thats for another thread.

now lets see here,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

ONLY TWO MORE WEEKENDS LEFT IN THE AR TOURNAMENT!!!!

here is the official leaderboard update heading into the weekend.

this little tournament has had such a good turnout i might do one again next month, and maybe even add an m1 garand division. just garand division class 1 (50yds, standard combat sights, and 100yds, standard combat sights.

drumroll please,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

i just went and got a physical so I could go on a camping trip with my sons boyscout group this weekend, I found that I have 20/20 vision and the dr's hands are still cold even through rubber gloves. :what:. almost 36 years old and I still have 20/20 vision. I just wanted to glote about that so it explains why im taking the 100 yard open sight class :neener:

i think you should try to win class 4. all you have to do is shoot 10 rds through the neck of a coke bottle.

Last minute submission...

Shot this while out practicing some highpower shooting today. 10 rounds fired, but I could only count 8 distinct edges. Group submitted for record is the top one.

Dude....When did you shoot this .42 MOA at 100 with yard iron sights? and two tight groups on one page. kinda odd for two tight groups to be on one page if youre using iron sights and aiming at the center. not my call, just sayin.

.42MOA is the width of the group helz_mcfugly. The overal group size is .84MOA, center-to-center, according to OnTarget. I never did break out the calipers for this one since the software is seldom incorrect.

As for shooting two groups on one target...

The first group at the bottom of the target was shot using some leftover Prvi Partizan 75gr match ammo I had in my shooting box. Using my 200yd zero as a starting point (+4MOA elevation on rear sight) I bottomed out the rear sight to shoot at 100yds. Using a 6 o'clock hold, the first group wound up being low on the target.

After making an elevation correction, I fired the second group using my handloads (recipe listed above), which shot fairly close to center on the same target. Again, I used the sanme 6 o'clock hold. Adjusting the elevation shifted the point of impact, thus the two distinct groups.

I regularly shoot this rifle competively in NRA/CMP matches and if it won't shoot less than 1MOA, then something is wrong, either with the ammo or the rifle. Bear in mind that my rifle weighs approximately 16 pounds, so recoil is minimal. That, combined with a nice tight sling and a good, solid prone position can yield some tight groups.

Believe me, I am by no means a wizard-on-the-trigger and my groups do open up when I shoot at the 200/300/600yd lines. I happened to shoot this group at short range under ideal conditions.

I see no need to grill anyone, on an honor system target shoot. This takes all the fun out of it. No one knows if anyone actually shot their groups at 100 or 50 yards, or even use an AR15. I learned one thing in this shoot, and that is 10 shot groups are a son of bitch, and a real test of your shooting skill:D I for one, get absolutly no satisfaction out of cheating, and believe I speak for all of us:)

LET'S KEEP THIS FUN!!

Looking forward to more of these, maybe at 200yrds and beyond, except for nbkky71 and dubbleA, you guys are just TOO GOOD:D:neener:

If you look back at my prior post, I mentioned about guys in this town that can do what nbkky71 has done. Done with irons and no bench and guns that weigh a ton. I believe it 100% because I've seen it here from the 200 meter line. Not as tight as nbkky71's but with another 100 meters thrown on. I'd need a bigger pie plate to get all ten on there offhand. :)

Don't make him angry or he will be moving to the 50 yard line or maybe slap a scope on and see what it will do from 100 yards. Nice shooting by the way and you just saved me alot of ammo from doing a 100 yard offhand shoot. haha

Yes, shooting 10 does wreck a group. You get 5 tight ones and then you start thinking about it and things start to open up. Damn I hate when that happens.

first of all, looking at nbkky's groups, i have no doubt that they are two individual groups. it would be ridiculous to even suggest otherwise. please read this entire post.

let me explain and i will let you guys call it.

in the rules post i said "fire 10 shots" 7 times.
There will be 4 classes for this competition as follows:

Class #1. Will be from 50yds, standing, freehand, iron sights, 10 shots.
Class #2. Will be from 50yds, bench fired or prone, iron sights, 10 shots.
Class #3. Will be from 100yds, bench fired or prone, iron sights, 10 shots.
Class #4. Will be from 100yds, bench fired or prone, magnified or non-magnified optical sights, 10 shots.

THE RULES

You will fire 10 shots onto the approved target set at the intended range. Groups will be scored by a smallest size wins for all 10 shots.

The target used will be a "paper" plate, you can paint, color or put any dots you wish inside this target but the "group" shot must be on this plate. For those of you who's range rule prohibit the use of a plate, a range approved target may be used. just draw a paperplate sized circle on the approved range target. Inside of this circle will be treated as a paper plate.

You will shoot 10 shots onto the plates adhering to the rules outlined above. When you have a target you're satisfied with you need to make note on the target the following information

then in another post here the other day again.
just make sure to not fire more than 10,

now the tough part.

i have 3 pm's and an email (for a total of 4) with targets that have more than 10 shots on them. 1 of them is impossible to tell where one group starts and the other one stops, lol.

one of them has some form of definition between 2 groups on 1 target, and 2 of them have definite group seperation, although not as much as nbkky's

i told those guys that it would be better if they could fire a single ten shot group, like the rules say, and they said, naw, dont worry about it (im paraphrasing, but that was the jist of it)

now,,,,,

if i count nbkky's, the other guys are going to have every right to say "hey, what about my target with more than 10?"

not all of them, but definitly 2 of them.

if i count all of them, it changes the leaders in classes 1, 2, and 3, counting nbkky's in class 3.

does that all make sense?

what would make this incredibly easy for me is if nbkky could shoot it 1 more time, but this time not leave an open avenue to make me bend rules, looking at his groups (which are the finest ive ever seen by the way. ive always heard good things about those barrels) he could most definitly take class 3.

the match has been extended to the end of the july 4th weekend.

No need to bend the rules on my behalf FlyinBryan. I clearly fired more than 10 rounds, so I'll remove myself from consideration. Problem solved.

Just fire another 10 at a new target because you have a few days left. I have no doubt that it can't be repeated or even bettered. If your shooting competition regularly, it would be a walk in the park. I've watched our locals shoot a stage with the shooting coats, mats, and firing them off single feed and some catching their spent round. They are sweating their asses off and it is hard work. Look forward to some of your new targets to show what these guns are capable of in competition hands.
