Thank you JD. Got to give credit to US Army Sniper School, being blessed with an exceptional set of eyes, can still read line 10 on the eye chart(line 7 is 20/20) at 42 and I think I put together one heck of a rifle.

Ortman, that's some outstanding shooting there, congrats.
I have some boolets on order and wont be able to shoot anymore until they get here.

It's going to be very tough for my stock rifle to beat a custom but I'll burn some powder trying. :banghead: :D

dubbleA, don't sell that Saber short(not exactly a stock rifle), it was one of the ones I was looking at before I decided to build. My rifle is probably just a couple steps ahead of yours. The one I looked at was right at 1600.00 and just couldn't see spending that much on it just to make changes and the ones that I could get the way I wanted went into the 3000.00+ range. I don't know what you paid for yours but would imagine with the addition of the PRS and the grip probably getting close to 2000.00. I haven't added it up to the penny but I'm between 2200-2300 for mine, plus the scope. Please don't take this the wrong way but just by looking at your targets I would say the issue is more with the shooter than the rifle or your loads. The slightest thing can ruin a group, just a slight change in grip pressure, wrist getting a little lazy(rolling in or out) along with other little things that most of the time you don't notice. Practice should fix the issues with your groups. You do 4 rounds great and then little fatigue/concentration slips just a little on the 5th.

I noticed what you are talking about otrman just today while working on some loads for the AR and shooting the 22lr for the rimfire shoot. It was with the rimfire were it really stood out. I finally found some ammo that lets the equipment be consistant and lets the shooter screw things up. Well, I did just that! It holds five and I was shooting 3 on a bull then shoot 2 on another, then reload 5, shoot 1 then move to next. While doing this I lost track of my round count in the bulls and accidently dry fired a few times. By doing that it told me that the end result of the scopes crosshairs was high left after pulling the trigger. While shooting at the targets, I had some really good ones get blown out with a high left shot out of the black. I'm not blaming the ammo with flyers, it was me this time. I also can't see the holes well enough when they are in the black and the last bull I was 1 round short. Walked out and found out I ruined a perfect score with 4 shots in one earlier bull. I trashed that sucker so I didn't have to look at my foulup. The AR's didn't fair too well with the powder I was trying. I was also fighting a front and rear sandbag and the positioning of the gun. I had a different grip angle that changed my positoning on the trigger. It was a totally different setup then what I have used in the past (the extra blocks of wood that usually lie around were gone). Just couldn't get the bags at the right height for a good 100 yard setup without fighting it. Way too many little things going on to shoot consistent groups. Sometimes the bull bag would sag enough to let the grip rest on the table without me knowing about it. I don't think me or the gun is capable of .3's but hope to have it at least .75's. I should have stopped and saved ammo but didn't. I also had major powder residue between the thumb and index finger from holding the gun wierd fighting the bag. It looked like a bruise on a 120 year old person. lol

A sidenote on the Weatherby 22LR that I have is the mag release is a real pain to use. I don't know if it is a early build or what because the .17 HMR that I have has a really nice mag release. The loading of 5 instead of 3 everytime cost me today. I found I shoot it better with a really fast cadence. I get to precise and screw up a group, usually the last shot too. Too much thinking is bad.

Here's my submission for 100yds Irons fired with the bottom rifle. A mixmaster EA lower wearing a Colt army A1 configuration surplus upper with A1 sights. This group was fired from bags

Were you guys at Gibson's this weekend? I was there this morning, but just me and 2 other shooters. One guy had Nightforce, A5 stocked, Rem 700 308 Win super duper rifle rig.

Wind was a PITA. But I have a .642in Group 4, and 1.672in Group 5 to post up.

These are the same loads I did a .688in 10 shot 100 yard group at Garland Public Range a few weeks ago.

Velocity was around 2780fps average.

Rem brass @ 1.76in, sorted, chamfered, neck deburred, flash hole deburred, fl-sized, primer pockets uniformed.
55gr Sierra Blitz Kings at 2.25 OAL.
21.5gr R10x powder
Fed 205 primer

I am out of these bullets, so Sierra 60gr JHP will be next.

very nice shooting dubbleA, I knew that Saber was capable. Guess I'm gonna have to try again as well, lol.

100 Yard Optics

My local supplier finally got some Varget in last week and here are the results.

Hor. 75 gr. BTHP Match
Lapua brass, 1st load
CCI Benchrest primers
24.6 grs. Varget

The first one is the better of the two groups, but I was so pleased that I had to show them both.

You guys are absolutely amazing!

otrman, how much has your ability to work up your own loads affected your group size as opposed to shooting loads issued to you (I'm assuming) as a Sniper?

Hud, at least when I was in our loads were custom. We had 2 choices in bullet, 168 gr. or 175 gr., 20 rd. lots of different powder charges and find what the rifle liked. Once the load was established that is what was loaded for my rifle. I didn't load it myself, it was done at the armory depot(if I remembered correct name for it). Ammo would come in boxes sealed with a sticker with my name, SSN, rifle serial number, name of who loaded, bullet weight and charge weight. They were pretty serious about it, my spotter could not pick up ammo for me, had to be my signature on the line. Not really all that different from now except I have to do all the work and pay for it, lol.

I had a go at Class #4 today ... not good enough to win any prizes but I'm pleased given the windy conditions. I needed to zero the LaRue mount for next week's match and just started using Varget so didn't even bother working up a load. I just shoved 25.0gr in a few cases (friend's favorite load) and got a decent result. I was also testing my usual load of 24.8gr of IMR 4895 with decent results too. All groups were shot prone using a bipod and a rear bag. I have to say, there's no way I could do better than what I did today and I'm more than happy with sub 0.5 MOA 5-shot groups. I'm VERY, VERY impressed by many of the groups shot by members here so congratulations to the all the winners and runners up.

Here's the AR ... DPMS upper with 24" stainless fluted heavy barrel (1:8 twist), Bushmaster lower, Timney 3lb single stage trigger, Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40mm M1 FFP TMR reticle, LaRue QD LT-104 scope mount, PRI M84 Gas Buster charging handle with Military Big Latch, Troy folding HK style front and battle rear BUIS, MAGPUL PRS stock, MAGPUL PMAGs, MAGPUL MOE grip, Bushmaster varminter handguard, Harris bipod.

Elevation was ok ... windage was a bit off ...

That's better ... 2 MOA left did the trick ... the target is shown upside down because I started writing the details before realizing my mistake.

FlyinBryan, did I miss the cutoff with my Class #4 entry submitted yesterday? Not a big deal if I did though.
