This is the July 2009 THR "Century" rifle match. This match is for either rifles that are over 100yrs old or centerfire cartridges that were introduced over 100yrs ago. These two criteria will be scored in different classes. This match is wide open to all sorts of rifles from Garands to Winchester m94's, Moisin's to Rem 700's just depending on caliber and firearm age. If we get enough submissions I'll break the results down into categories by action type.

you'll have
Rifles over 100
Iron Sights 50yds
Scopes optics 100yds
For this class both the action and barrel need to be original dating prior to 1910

Cartridges over 100
Iron Sights 50yds
Scopes optics 100yds
any rifle or action type of any age qualifies here provided the cartridge being shot was introduced prior to 1910

The Rules

You will fire 5 shots onto the approved target set at a range of 50 or 100yds depending on the sighting system used, ANY shooting position is allowed. Groups will be scored by a smallest size wins for all 5 shots

The target used will be a "paper" plate, you can paint, color or put any dots you wish inside this target but the "group" shot must be on this plate. For those of you who's range rule prohibit the use of a plate see this post

you will shoot 5 shots onto the plates adhering to the rules outlined above. When you have a target you're satisfied with you need to make note on the target the following information

username
group size
firearm & sighting system
ammunition
date fired
and firearm age for rifles over 100

then take a pic of it and post it here, if you would please post a pic of the rifle used as well.

You may submit as many targets as you wish provided one of three things
1. the new group betters the last (leave the old pic up though)
2. the new group is for a different class
3. It was shot with another firearm

The cutoff date for submissions is Aug 1st

Please please submit targets even if you don't think they'll win and above all have FUN. So break out those 30-30's Milsurps, Bubbas and 30-06'es out and send rounds where they belong, DOWNRANGE

I might give her a shot if I have the time. I'll crack out the old punkin' chunker (it is a replica 1885 High Wall, so class 2-irons). :)

Sometime in the next week or so I'll dig out the reloading gear and bring my Beaumont-Vitali to the range... made in 1871, rebarreled in 1874, I think it counts. :)

Ok, I keep saying to myself I'm going to join one, but I'm going to have to do it and get the Sharps out for this. I'm taking it to the range on Sunday but that's for a silhouette shoot. Maybe if I have time I can stick up a couple plates.

Mine is a reproduction, so I assume I'll have to be in the 100 year old cartridge class and not rifle, right?

so a 1927 mosin (91/30) in 7.62x54r belongs in which class?

EDIT: it's an 1891 design, but rifle itself is newer. just wanna make sure.

Looks like both of us will be in the 100yr cartridge class...WE NEED TO PETITION FOR A NEW CLASS...that is for new models of old designs. Oops, did I hit caps lock again. :p

Since there is no 80 yr. class, it looks like you will be in the new rifle/old cartridge class with most of us. :)

it looks like its on like donkey kong.

(i never understood that saying because when i say it it doesnt really ryme but whatever)

Are 22lr over 100 years old? :) I've got a cz that might be game.

I can't disallow them since I didn't clearly state centerfire in the rules. However I did this match with center fires in mind and there is an ongoing rimfire match....

I dunnow?

If I can find the time, I'm game to try, probably with my Winchester Hotchkiss "Model of 1883" (third model) .45-70.

My .45-70 weighs too much for this match. So it'll just be the AR unless I can find some ammo for the mosin.

ya, it is over 100 but really that sorta takes some of gvnwst's entries from his rimfire match.

ive got a 22 target rifle that will put 5 rounds into one ragged hole but i will shoot that in the rimefire match.

im going to shoot my garand and mosin nagant in this one.

i really invisioned this match to be centerfire, and im thinking the match director did too, so thats what im going to shoot in it. starting this weekend.

any rimfire shooting i do will go into gvnwst's rimefire match, but to be honest, i shoot my garand more than anything else i own.

My previous post was half jokingly made. I've got a few centerfires that will be entered if I can find time to shoot.

lol, its all good.

i will be shooting in both of the classes my rifle qualifies for starting on saturday. this will be my favorite THR tournament action to date. (including my own ar15 tourny)

hint: i garand-tee ya.

I just noticed, iron sights are at 50 yards. My range has a 100 yard minimum. I could do 50 I guess if I get out there early before everyone else, though. I guess that rules out shooting from the bench for me, though.

Whoops I think in your rough draft in the test forum it said offhand. Ok I'll shoot the sharps and the ar.

i know that me and my bro are going saturday morning to shoot the garands.

im really excited about this one.

can we use that "on target" program to measure the groups? its really cool looking and if we can use it im gonna need to learn to do it.
