NOT my official entry!

This is not my entry but I got a kick out of it so I hafta share. This was the first group of the day after 4 foulers. I'm going to scrub the barrel and file my bullets like Tom Berringer and see if I can get rid of that flier. It's never done better than 1.5" before (for me) but I have to believe it's possible... I did get an even 2 incher out of this session but I'm holding out for the inch. Fair warning.

M1917100yd.jpg

BTW, the overall group is 2 3/4 inches, just like mavracer's.

FOUL!!! Thats a modified paper plate!!! I protest!!! :p
J/J heheh
Really nice shooting man!!

natlmatch, you got me there. I thought my dot might be too big but at 100yd, it sure wasn't. I may paint the whole plate and put it on a white backer next time.

Mav, They are reloads but I'm honestly not sure of the specifics. My Dad loaded them (several hundred) and kept them canned up in Garand clips. He was a pretty picky loader so I know they are not junk but he didn't really intend them to be benchrest ammo either.

I can tell they have a Sierra SP and most likely contain IMR 4350. Brass is R-P. I don't think he ever loaded a round that he didn't weigh the charge on. I am feeling too lazy to load anything for this match.

When I first got the rifle (for $150...it's been awhile) I shot some Rem. 150 gr bronze tip ammo and groups were @ 1.5". PMC ball gave 3-4".

I assumed we were all shooting offhand.

:D:D:D Just kidding!

plinky?offhand?!!!!????I couldn't do a group like that benched..

Personally I will be using a rested position...........

and yes stating ammo brand, condition of gun and shooting position would be nice because info to me is the important thing to this.

And just a reminder, the rules say you can submit more than one rifle just only one target per rifle. So break out that cache of milsurps!

here is a question. For some milsurps the sights start at 200 or 300 meters, can we use a plate for aiming and another plate for impacts?

Don't you just hate it when one shot ruins the whole group? Especially when it's the last shot of the string!:banghead: Can I make excuses? It's hot and sunny in Texas, so...mirage?
Anyhow, here's the group from my rock-stock 1939 K-31, fired at my 100 yd. range here at the house, with genuine Swiss GP-11 ammunition. Aren't these rifles amazing? I predict that once all the imports are sold, and people begin to realize just how accurate these rifles are, that prices will skyrocket.
I don't think people realize that there were less than 600,000 K-31's made, compared to the Russian 91/30, for example, of which there were made somewhere around 17 million produced!

The rifle pictured is one of the last two I own. I had been trying to sell it, but now I'm having second thoughts!;)

I will have to try this out next I head out to the range

I got a 1.5 inch group out of my M44 at 50 the other day, but now that I have figured out what bolt and ammo to use I think I should be able to do that or close to that at 100 next time I have got a 1.75 inch group at 100 yards but unfornatly I did not take a picture:banghead::fire:

More to come

well...............today was not as good as I had hoped. Here is Brazilian 1908 mauser made in Germany by DWM in excellent condition.

My submitted plate:(I only shot once because I used the rest of the ammo trying sight it in and just to show it can do better here is a SR-1 target I used.

I think I will paint the plates black next time also,90 degree weather and bright sun made white hard to see.

Im not sure how you measure a group so I showed the measurements.

lionking, those are some real beauties. Good groups too.

I can't get loose for a range trip. Life sucks sometimes.

plinky, while factory loads will hardly ever beat handloads I decided to take off the Persian and Brazilian for now because I know I can do better with them.Im going to paint the targets black I think and try again with them.

How should I measure a group? Is it from just the longest point between two hits?

I plan on trying a whole bunch of my different rifles.Hope others do also .It will be interesting to see results.

BTW my M1903a3 bore measures 1 with a bore gauge for muzzle wear reference.I got a bit lazy because it was so hot that I left the sight hood on and that may have effected my sighting.I think that rifle can do better even with HXP.

The best of five plates. I hate it when my first group is the best one. I had to shoot from the rifle club's horrible benches because they were mowing/weed whacking/dropping chemicals.

I sighted in my new Mossberg M44US as well. That will produce a sub-2" group easily. Look for it soon. I'll shoot bigger stuff, too. Future groups will be from prone unsupported.

Here's my old rifle. Not a beauty queen but not too rough either. It is a U.S. M1917 made by Winchester. It is blued so I believe it was not rebuilt for WWII. The bore has some light pitting.

This is the best group my fuzzy eyes would coax from her. 1.75" C to C

M1917best9-8-08.jpg

For those who wanted data, here is the product of my first range session. Best 2.01", worst 2.9", average 2.51" for 4 groups.

M19178-25-08.jpg

Here is the same for my second range session. Best 1.75", worst 2.7", average 2.27" for 4 groups.

Other than 5 fouling shots, that is every round that I fired for this event. The sights on this rifle are very good. If the rear aperture were smaller they would be great. If not for this match it's hard to say when this rifle would have been out of the safe.

35whelen don't sell that K31,people laughed at me for paying $200 for one a year ago but I got a real nice one wood wise, now they are going for more than that for better condition ones.I will add on my Swiss before the tourament is over.Too bad I can't use the diopter sights on my beech one, those sights are awesome.

I've got a walnut and a 1911 I'll get it on with.I have some PP ammo I have been meaning to see how it compares to GP11.

All the milsurp fans on this board,c'mon get involved in this thread!:D

I wonder if my M1 carbine could put 5 in a plate at 100.No way it would have a spectacular group though.

Up until a few months ago I had FIVE K-31's. The one pictured in the post above is one of the remaining, and the one pictured below is the other. I know I could've shot a better group, but I was too lazy, I hate burning that expensive GP-11 ammo, and I was (again) too lazy to load any match stuff.

Were I of a lesser moral fiber, I'd have removed my Lyman sights from the rifle below, re-installed the original sights, and taken another picture with one of the shown targets below!:neener:

wow!I haven't used my K31's that much yet but I have never been able to get groups that tight, decent but not that tight at all.

Wow, that is a shooting machine. Do they all tend to shoot that well? What are the issue sights?

here are results last time I kept results from 2 of my K31's after sighting them in a little better. The Beech one seemed the most accurate so I put my diopter sight on that one.

Accurate rifles for sure, and GP11 ammo is top notch.I don't feel totally comfy with them though, the egronomics just don't do it for me like Mausers and Springfields.
