I'm in with this group for rifles over 100 with this group from my 1900 dated DWM M91 Modello Argentino sporter. Yes there are five bullet holes.

im planning to get my name on the board tommorow, (well, today now, sunday)

with my little ole springfield m1. my bro is gonna be trying too.

i'll play with...

1. Mosin-Nagant 91/30 1891-1930 not a M44
2. 30-06 Springfield (remington 700) after the tunning
3. 9mm (Sub-2000 & Hi-Point 995)
4. 22lr (Savage Mark-II & Stevens M62)

Krochus, my Dad has a sporterized Mauser that looks exactly like that. He sent my brother in law to a gun show to find him a 94 Winchester for Coyote control and he came home with that. I thought he got a better rifle but he wasn't happy. Haven't been able to get him to sell it to me yet though, once he shot it he became a believer. Those are beautiful guns, very accurate too. The only problem is that he can't find ammo locally, so he has to have a guy reload for him.

Using Sellior and Bellot 180 grain soft point. This is in the 50 yard iron sight competition for a cartridge over 100.

I shot this 1.8" group on 7-4 with 115gr Gold Dot 9x19.

100 year old cartridge class ... my first attempt.

This is just a start since I know I can get better results once I get the loads figured out. I'm just starting out with 1.0gr increments ranging from 44.0gr to 48.0gr to get a rough idea as to what might work best. I did manage to shoot a few groups today despite HUGE problems with the new hammer springs that I installed a few months ago. On the bright side, I wasn't flinching every time I had a FTF ... about 25 in all!! I'll be reinstalling the factory hammer springs before the next outing.

Anyway, here are three groups shot today. Both rifles are Marlin 1895s in .45-70 and both have Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x scopes. I don't usually shoot from a bench but I tried my best and used a front rest and rear bag. I shot a total of 29 rounds, 19 from the XLR and 10 from the Guide Gun. This was my first time shooting either at 100 yards so I "wasted" a few rounds getting on paper. The first group shown should have been under 1" but I messed up the last shot (top right) and knew it before I even looked through the spotting scope :banghead: . The calipers are included in the photos so that I could input an accurate scale into OnTarget ... I could just as easily have used a ruler but the calipers look better. One last thing ... my shoulder is SORE!!

Hi Krochus,
Unless you changed the rule, this the second sentence of your description of the match: This match is for either rifles that are over 100yrs old or centerfire cartridges that were introduced over 100yrs ago. So the 22lr is not included in this match, only the CF cartridges. Hope to try it with my Ted Williams 30-30 Sears LeverAction. The Marine Fighter Pilot that someone said also played some baseball on the side. :)

man 1858!!!!!!!!

those levers are beautiful!!!!!!!!

the top one is really nice, but man!!! that little one is just slick as owl stuff!!!!!!

i think thats the coolest looking levergun ive ever seen.

FlyinBryan, thanks ... the "little one" is accurate too ... I'm confident that both will shoot under or very close to 1" at 100 yards when I'm done figuring out the loads. Marlin recently introduced a new Guide Gun ...

... I had the XS Lever Rail on mine before they came up with their latest model, but I got the idea to switch the stocks/levers around after I saw the SBL.

:)

FB you should check out the new 1895SBL model. I handled one last week and was very impressed, it is basically a GG with a full tube and the loop lever. It may (and likely will) be my next rifle. :)

yes I made this change so as to not take participation away from the rimfire match as discussed earlier it this thread.

However

Rimfire rifles can still be shot in this match but only in rifles over 100. The reason is rimfires would be a ringer for the 50uds sights modern rifle class

and an excellent call on that one.

your right, there are modern 22 target rifles that would sweep the class, and i think that would take away what this match is all about.

i will have my entries in tommorow. i will be shooting my garand in the 50 yard cartridge class.
