btw - in the real shooting shows where they do run & gun, they don't crawl and climb ,BUT they carry a gun which is a bit more realistic as I don't expect to "find" a gun at the end of running toward a shootout.

I have shot USPSA and other 2 or 3-gun venues that that have involved being seated on a swaying buckboard seat, a teeter-totter ramp, running across a 2x4 surrounded by muddy water, and laying prone to fire under a wall. Guns and mags have been pre-positioned on several stages that were a LOT of FUN. They haven't even shown a night shoot, unless I forgot it.

It seems like they've improved the show quite a bit by eliminating the drama BS.

I'm still not a fan of the obstacle course crap or the grenade launcher that only a handfull of people in the world have the opportunity to shoot... I wish this was a true marksmanship competition, not who is the best soldier. It's alright though. I realize shooters are not the target audience.

Next episode looks more like my style. exhibition shooting, trick shots etc.

I missed last night's show :(. I have to get up for work in the morning and staying up till 11 PM just isn't in it for me.

I usually watch the show on replay online the next night (no, I don't have a DVR). Unfortunately, it seems they aren't posting full episodes this year...or at least don't have last night's episode posted. :banghead::fire::cuss:

9mmE, I appreciate the listings of future airings, but unless I want to get up at 4 to watch it before I go to work, I'm screwed without a DVR.

I would say (as one of the guys competing on the show) that putting something like this together is tricky balancing act. They need to appeal to a wide viewing audience, including historical elements for the channel, and also keep the technical/skill elements true enough to please a core shooting audience. No way to keep everyone satisfied 100%. And in the case of the "internet" some people just thrive on the negative...

Take that site 'Truth About Guns' for example, they blasted the show for drama year after year... and now that there are finally no teams, no voting, no politics, ALL SKILL [exactly what shooters have said they wanted] they now declare the show incredibly boring and unwatchable. Bah! You need to see through that charade, and identify the source for its motives before you accept their credibility. Negative garbage sells these days. And sadly it will continue as long as people keep buying it.

That said, I am pleased with the changes for this season. I think this is the show we have been asking for, and I hope that the true shooting talent shows through enough to hold the wider audience and get them excited about going to the range themselves. From the feedback I have heard, the show made some real inroads with women and children. That can't be a bad thing...

Next episode is trick shots. THAT should be a real crowd pleaser!!

Since y'all seem to like the cool aid.

Watch 3 gun competition and tell me that THIS is top shot.

If you compare the 2 and still think this title is a "bit" overstated - I say, enjoy.

The best I can say for this show is that many non shooters will get a thrill thinking this is neat-o cool.

But that doesn't come on right after The Kardashians.

Scatylobo -- Some of the top competition shooters have tried their hand on the show, and many bigger names were there at tryouts in L.A. (not making the final cast). Even some of the top 3 gunners, BTW.

THIS just happens to be a different game, but no less challenging. You think its impressive shooting $5000 race guns, getting 5 minutes for dry runs through the course, with a few thousand people watching?? Great. Next try doing something impressive with a crappy gun from a movie prop house, with just 5 practice bullets the day before, crooked sights and no adjustment allowed... running through some crazy course you never saw before, using Kentucky windage to aim, and with a few million people watching!!

Liking Top Shot doesn't have to diminish your own particular shooting sport. In the end, the 3 gun champs will still be the best at their game... the IPSC pistol guys will still be the best at their game... Denny will still be the mounted shooting world champion, etc.

This is a TV reality game show that shows shooting competitions in a positive light, on a major network with millions of people watching. They can call the winner Top Shot, or the Grand Poobah, or even Burgermeister for all I care. As long as the media coverage helps support our constituional right to keep and bear arms, I am all for it!

I love the show. Been a fan since season 1. A lot of the guys who competed even posted here talking about thier time there and what happened vs. what the camera showed. I remember Brad Engman from S1 posting here, saying "I remember when I said that, and immediately knew 'ugh, that didnt come out right'. Lol.

The casters even used to post here to announce tryouts for the new seasons... Then the haters had to voice thier opinion. Its funny that they hate the show, have better things to do, yet can come here and tell everything they didnt like about it. Kind of ironic. We care about your negative opinion as much as you care about the show, so why even click this thread if you hate it?

Anyways, Id like to see Gunny or Kelly win. Kelley should have won S1, and I bet he wouldve had he not gone 1st in the last event. And Gunny, well his rep and records speak for themselves. A few people I wanted to see come back didnt, but Im glad to see many that did.

I like the show, and my wife does not dislike it, which is only one small step away from actually liking it!!!

I figure if she enjoys watching it ( she HATES/ED the drama by the way ), I just might get her on the range for a shooting session...........with a little practice, she will probably be able to outshoot me!! LOL

my AHA moment

I found the best way to watch the show JUST NOW = turn on the MUTE and not listen to the IDIOTIC comments :neener: made by the 'hostess' and all the in between comments by the shooters "I missed, and I cant say why" - duh uh :banghead:.

Seriously, now the shooting and or lack thereof is the whole show.

And not the mini drama they keep trying to make it.

I wanted to see Kelley to win S1 and would love to see him take it this go around. He's off to a good start.

My wife and 8yr old daughter all watch the show and have since season 1. Good show. Though I miss all the drama.

I loved the first season and tolerated the last two as some sort of shooting show is better than no shooting show.

I would like to see a different host to be honest, maybe the Gunny from Mail call :)

Here in the land of Oz we get US shows much later, if at all, but based on the less drama comments, I am quite eager to see this season.

some sort of shooting show is better than no shooting show

I think this best describes my feelings towards it....

The Nay-sayers can bash it all they want,, "Its not 3-gun"
Like somebody mentioned, a few hundred, maybe a thousand will show up to watch a 3-gun competition, and they are already gun-enthusiasts

I think this show helps bridge the gap between those who are deathly afraid of guns, and will believe anything the media tells them about how dangerous or "assaultive" a weapon is

I am sure there will always be those who thumb their noses at ANY attempt to bring shooting-sports to the mainstream television audience,
What those people don't remember is that we are all on the same side
Get behind it, and support it !!!

Just on last-nights episode there was one of the contestants talking about how their family and friends were watching them from home, and how it actually encouraged some of them to get active in shooting sports

That's what our sport needs ,, MORE people !!

I tuned in last night just as the elimination challenge started. I am glad it is back.

A couple of observations:

1) There is shooting in a pristine, emotionally quiet environment; and then there is shooting under pressure. Thinking past the fluff of the athletic efforts, consider what it is doing to your heart rate, breath control, and ability to concentrate. While a lot of people can shoot groups off a bench with no one disturbing them, doing it while your heart is racing and someone is making distracting comments is something else. While you may not enjoy watching people cross country ski, think about what is going on physically and mentally during a biathlon competition.

2. I have always enjoyed casual plinking. When I was a kid those many years ago, a box of 22 shells and a garbage dump full of bottles, cans, etc. would keep me happy. Many of the challenges remind me of the targets I would set up. (This worked well in West Texas, but my home county had a population density of less than 1 person per square mile, and this would not work in many areas of the country even then).

3. Speaking of West Texas, Colby is from a small town in the Concho Valley southeast of San Angelo (I am from another small town in the Concho Valley to the southwest of Angelo). Growing up out there, you tend to think of the gunrack in the pickup is standard equipment. For ranchers, a gun is another tool of the trade--and not a symbol of an attitude. Growing up on the ranch, I learned to use a gun effectively as a tool just like I learned to ride a horse, use a post hole digger (my first PhD--lots of motivation for the second one) and San Angelo bar (the pose hole digger is only good for the first 4 to 6 inches of dirt, you go the rest of the way with the San Angelo bar and use the PhD for clean out), and the windmill repair tools.

4. Speaking of challenges, I would like to see a "snake shooting" challenge: A timed event with a 22 handgun and a small random popup target at close range. Person walks down a path in brush with gun holstered, the buzzer sounds, then the target pops up from a hidden location. Points for speed and accuracy.

And Gunny, well his rep and records speak for themselves.
I have to say that his record and his single shot on the first Proving Ground are about the only things that haven't been sub-par this season.

When you consider that he lost the only head-to-head elimination he faced during his season, you begin to wonder is he is really much better in this competition than Denny...the mounted shooting champion

While this does sound like fun, there are a few reasons I'm pretty sure we won't see something like this:

1. Drawing from the holster is a specialized skill which tilts the tables heavily in one direction.
2. It is a safety concern. You'll notice that the only challenge in which they have used a holster in the preceding seasons had the contestants holstering a unloaded pistol
3. It might become more of a running match than a shooting one. Depending on how much hitting the targets are weighed, running faster and hitting fewer targets at a distance could be the faster route.

I'd think the fastest way to shoot something like you suggest would be to run up to them and shoot them to avoid misses and reduce overall time

Yes. I found a note on my door yesterday from a friend that I let have 1250 rounds of 9mm at below cost if you add in my time who now wants more. The cost of Blazer on Monday was 42 cents a round which is nearly twice what I paid for the ammo I let him have. Frankly I feel like I'm being taken advantage of. After all it took 6weeks of showing up 2 hours before the store opened ,3 days a week to get that ammo. Finding 9mm is harder to find than 22lr especially in bulk. Now I'm stuck. If I sell it at replacement cost he will probably get upset and if I don't he will get upset. I realize now I shouldn't have sold him anything in the first place. Any ideas for this mess I find myself in.
