Top Shot - Season 3

I have taken to DVRing the show so I can FF past all the drama and just watch the shooting. Just listening to Jake during the range times is bad enough and I agree the others are not handling him well. Staying calm and laughing at him then ignoring him would be my approach. Unfortunately he can shoot.

It was the most satisfying shot of Top Shot's three seasons when Jake smoked the 500-yard target with the MacMillan in 9 seconds and one shot and did his little smug routine... and then Dustin comes up, smokes it in one shot and EIGHT seconds, and then just kind of does that slap-happy grin and says "Oh, that'll do..."

Yeah, that was pretty sweet. I think Dustin might go all the way. He, or the show, has toned down the Christian aspect a bit, but it didn't bother me. I've worked with people who not just Christian in their talk, but in their everyday actions. People like that have my respect, it's a very hard way to live.

I was suprised at how the Tac 50 was locking up. Is this common with rifle? Actually learned something form Top Shot!

Anybody have a hard time listening to Colby? Although he's from Texas, his speech doesn't sound like Texan to me. Seems he's trying too hard to present a cool/tough-guy/jock posture. There are times when he slips out of character and actually sounds normal.

This is because he 'is' normal.

Colby's not an actor. He's just a good ol' boy from Texas, like some of us, who was on 'Survivor' a time or two (I don't know cause I hate that show more than most out there.) and got picked up to do these types of Host roles because he has a look 'they' like and a familiar face to many who have watched that awful 'intro to Reality TV' series.

He's most likely had a speaking coach and acting classes just within the years since that show and he's been trained in 'Voice Inflection' and things of that nature.

Now he's just making a 'whole' lot of money striving to act and sound like an image that is chosen by a room of people who answer to a man in a $2000 suit who sits at the end of a very big table in the top of a very tall building most likely puffing on a cigar while watching dailies of the show and giving a thumbs up or thumbs down to each and every 'edited for commercials' episode that crosses his large desk.

When you consider exactly what Colby's actually doing for a way better than average living, Life could certainly be tougher. :)

I've long said the best way to watch Top Shot (I think there's an oxymoron in there somewhere!) is with the sound turned down.
In an earlier post, someone asked who the next person they'd vote to send home would be-I voted for the host.

And as usual, you will have the good sense to not tell anyone I've ever seen this show?

Like "Sons of Guns" the production companies for these programs are not huge entertainment conglomerates and the mistaken impression that the presenters and participants are somehow real professional actors is off target. The improvement in weapons and "coaches" is any indicator the production companies start off small and hope for success when a "channel" buys the first season of the product. Then they add more money to the production and can afford more interesting equipment and staff.

I've been happy to see the guys with the least ego do well in the competition and hope to see sportsmanship win out over ruthlessness and bluster.

I think Colby tries to hard to hide his Texan accent. Personally I would prefer the Texan accent as to me, southerners sound more personable and down to Earth.

Not everyone from a certain region is going to have an accent.

I grew up in Kentucky, but no KY southern accent. I live in Michigan, no northern accent.

Colby might be like me, who never picked up the regional accent, or only slips out on occassion or with certain words/ phrases. As for me, I still pronouce Louisville like Loo-uh-vul. :)

the teaser for nexts weeks episode has me wondering (as it is supposed to) if Jake quit. It shows him sitting outside in the dark with his pack, when Colby walks in with everyone but Jake sitting on the couch with the shocked/ surprised look on their faces.

He probably didn't quit, so I'll just have to wait and find out. As much as I dislike Jake, I don't necessarily disagree with his philosophy about winning. The way he's going about it makes him look like a cantankerous old porcupine quill, but I'm sure a lot of that is overblown like has been done with previous contestants in previous episodes.

I'd much rather see Jake lose in a competition versus seeing him quit or get thrown out.

I'm in West Texas and Colby sounds normal to me /shrug.. If Jake wins this I'll never watch another Top Shot Ever!

The teasers make it look like Jake quit. So we know that won't happen. Here is what I predict. Colby quits and Jake takes his place as announcer, trash talking the competitors for the rest of the competition.

:D:D

Unfortunately, Colby has come to the house for a bit of an admonishment of the rest of the contestants for being so mean to Jake.

Jake contacted the producers and threatened to walk off the show packing his backpack and sitting out front and pouting angrily.

In response to Jake's threat, Colby was instructed by the producers to have a sit-down with the guys and make it very clear that they are 'not' to single Jake out anymore and never to vote him into elimination again.

Having been a Christian youth sponsor, having taken youth on several mission trips, and having taught more than a few to shoot, one of whom is now a Real Seal, I find Jake to lack several important traits...or qualities..one of which is intelligence. It shows a lack of same to have to punctuate your entire statement with expletives. Sportsmanship, not a chance. How do his "college players" that he coaches going to see him? Not a role model there by any means. I'm rooting for Dustin. I also agree than whoever sends Jake home is the true top shot, whether it is the producers or another shooter. More than one of the competitors has shown remarkable restraint in not punching him out.

Phil wouldn't be bad either, but I'm gonna be ticked if anyone but those 3 take it home.

I've shot 3-Gun with Phil. He's a nice guy, but he is definitely, not the best at the club (he did better than I, however). If he gets much further, I expect to see a bunch of auditions tapes soon. I suspect Dustin can beat him in a head to head trial of standard firearms. I would love to see Phil win, however.

Individual elimination method better than Season 2

It's much less a popularity contest than last season.

The way Jake is portrayed is for those viewers who want pure Survivor drama. I still just FF to the contests.

Actually, I kinda like Jake!

At least as far as serving a purpose-he's good at outing those that take themselves too seriously and are probably guilty of reading their own press releases.
Don't remember his name (only ones I remember are Dustin and Jake), but I laughed at the confrontation between Jake and the guy gritting his teeth in the house-what a maroon...

I stopped watching because of that jake guy. i just can't stand watching something that pisses me off.

enhhh... oh well.

I'm sure we've all looked at some of the challenges and thought we could do better than them. Fact is, we probably could, at certain specific things. I know I could have done better at the blindfolded pistol shoot and likely the shooting from the hip part. Why? Because of how I train myself. I don't just limit myself to aiming down the sights. I've put lots of work into learning the natural point of the gun and I have a very good ability to remember and visualize my targets. But put me in any of countless other challenges, and I couldn't compete with those guys. No question. Many of us are better at one specific thing, but versatility is the name of that show.

...what a maroon...

...says the guy who likes the most reprehensible person on the show. Just curious, but who other than Jake seem to take themselves too seriously? The rest are remarkably humble and set on the idea of doing the best possible while using good sportsmanship rather than poor gamesmanship like your buddy Jake.

And the guy using superhuman powers to hold himself back from pounding the baby seal into the ground was Mike Hughes, all around good guy and a great shooter and sportsman. And inventor. And will, I suspect probably win this show or be in the top two.

I'm not in any way trying to be a smarty pants but didn't Mike Hughes get eliminated? I think Gary took him out this past week. I may be wrong because I've been known to mix things up from time to time. Lol.

Anyway. I personally think Jake is an idiot. Yeah he can shoot but I don't care for his personality. The smart thing to do is send the best two shooters to elimination every time. That weeds out the competition for yourself. In the end you will be shooting against weaker shooters. In theory. ;).

I'm hoping Gary wins. He's a Virginian and seems to be a stand up fella.

I no longer watch the show at all because of the idiot yelling all the time that runs/MC's the show. Just not worth it to me to get upset. I can handle O'Reilly on FOX news better than the idiot on Top Shot.

Mr. Hughes was indeed defeated by Mr. Queensberry in the elimination using the Walther P08.

Both showed good sportsmanship.

Actually, he was eliminated while using a P38, not 08 which is a Luger if I'm not mistaken. I still believe he will continue on the show.

Why do you believe that? Logic would show that those who are eliminated from the competition would no longer continue... then again, who knows with this show. He shouldn't continue though, as he is not one of the better overall shooters, as is shown by his elimination. If a pistol guy loses on a pistol challenge, where he should be at his best, then he doesn't deserve to win.

I am surprised at how poorly Gary did. He had been one of, if not thee most consistently good shot on the show. In terms of shooting skills, I think he, along with Jake and Dustin are the best shooters. Love or hate Jake, he can shoot.

There have been competitions in which Jake has shot poorly as well.

Mike Hughes is gone and is not coming back. Even if Jake is kicked out or whatever...they aren't bringing Hughes back.
