Just because someone isn't visibly ebullient doesn't mean they're not just as excited and honored to be there as the others. Remember that there was a greater deal of regret expressed at his leaving than most others. That counts for far more when the competition makes that sort of statement than an outside observer.

I appreciated the line about big and little brothers that could do everything better.

I'd like to see them get rid of the elimination all together. I think its awful that they can have, say, a fantastic handgunner get eliminated on the first episode, and not even get to handguns until the third or fourth episode. Why not keep some sort of aggregate score, and hold off on the eliminations until any given contestant is so far behind that they can't possibly win?

Really Sharps? Excellent display of resding comprehension. How does aggregate score mean "everybody is a winner?"

Aggregate, schmagregate. No matter how they do it, everyone but one will be gone by the end. I cannot COMPREHEND how people can lament good shooters leaving the show when that is ALL that is happening here. They are the ALL STARS, right? They were ALL good, way above average shooters before the show started. As I say, it's just part of the design of the show. Every "great" shooter but one will be eliminated. Nothing personal.

I think the whole point of the show is that the competitors are expected to be well rounded shooters. So sure, they can specialize in handguns but they better also be more than proficient in other platforms. The aggregate system might allow people to simply focus on a few things and just totally blow other competitions.

My bragging-rights-only bet would be tough to place, between Chris and Adam, they are both doing very well this season, though Phil surprises me often too

Still rootin' for Pete though, he's just so fun to watch and unpredictable.

That shotgun challenge was very fun to watch, I'd love to compete in that! Can't wait 'til Wednesday!

Even though I was talking about this episode .."Never", might have indicated I was talking about the season. I have enjoyed Joe's natural ability and have several friends like him.

I just felt Joe had an off day and by his actions might have been ill.
Off camera he might have been the life of the party.

With no warning of what is to come, I hope everyone ate a light breakfast before the next challenge!

Let's make an argument for compositing the score across the show.

In a 3-gun match you may know your score at each stage, but you may not know your score and everyone elses across the entire match until they're all tallied and announced. If you did the same, albeit on a larger scale, for Top Shot you'd have much the same system.

This may not be perfectly practical considering the amount of time it takes to set up the elaborate "stages" day after day since there will be good days and bad days during the course of production of the show. Overall it might not make much difference considering the caliber of competitors. An off day makes you more likely to not be in the top tier and with that crowd you might as well go home.

The argument against compositing the score across the whole show is that it costs the competitors real money to be there and the time away from their family. Birthdays, anniversaries, and lost wages/business are expensive to these individuals who have no sponsors like top tier competitors.

When Adam and Kelly were showing their pictures they'd brought and talking about their families you can see some of what these guys sacrifice to be there. Kelly pointed out his fiance was carrying out the planning of their wedding while he was there and it bothered him that he wasn't helping (and if you're not engaged in a once in a lifetime event like that for a once in a lifetime chance to be the Top Shot All Stars winner you'd better be in it to win it instead of the honor to just be there).

I haven't been a huge fan of the competitions which are team based....if you wanted to make this an individual competition from the beginning...then do it...get rid of teams totally

Joe really was the life of the party, and the combination of him and Pete drinking together when we first arrived in town damn near got us thrown out of the hotel before the show even started !!!

He was not ill, but really just bummed he lost at an archery type event (again) when even though crossbows are very different, archery is Joe's specialty. I will test that theory out when we go bowhunting together this November!!

The problem with the crossbow is that you crank it back with a pulley-rope device, and in the confusion/stress of the elimination challenge, Joe just reversed the connection point. He kept pulling the bow string back, but was unable to get it to latch. A tragedy. Would have liked to see the loading go well, and have the win decided by the shots fired. But it happens. And we would have been very sad to see either guy go home. At this point, everyone is very good friends in the house.

Personally, I like the elimination, hate to see good guys get booted for having a "bad" day, but still, that happens even in matches.

Realistically, what would the odds of a guy having an off day and coming in dead last on one stage, being able to make up that bad stage to win?? I think its very nearly impossible, with the caliber of shooters on the show.

Lets keep in mind its a competition fellers, a contest to cut down the numbers till only ONE remains.

Personally I think the producers have done an admirable job of cutting and splicing to present a show that is entertaining to watch, AND puts shooting in a positive light...........not really seeing the downside...........other than I suspect that this will be the last season of TopShot.

Just a pure guess on my part mind you, but think about it, the 5th season as an all star show?? A re-make of the concept of the game, from "reality" character development to purely performance base with virtually no character development?? ( granted anybody who has watched the previous shows knows who the shooters are )

In my OPINION A pure performance based show with unknown shooters will die a quick death in ratings, ratings drive commercial sales and commercial sales pay for the production.

I have watched a few pure performance based shows on TV, 3-gun, ipsc, even some cowboy shooting...........ON TV its boring boring boring

Those shows in no way, shape or form compare to the production value of Top Shot. No chance this is the last season.

Which is actually kinda my point.

In this season with much of the house "drama" eliminated, there has been very very little character development, and its worked because people already knew who the shooters were. In a regular season with this "recipe" with limited character development, it would (d?)evolve into a boring shooting show with no "favorites" or "heels", nobody to root for because we wont know enough about the shooters to have a "vested" interest in them.

For what its worth, I sincerely hope they continue the show, AND find a way to continue waking the line between "soap opera drama " and pure boring " shooting competition "

Then there is the fact History keeps bumping from the schedule and showing other programs in that timeslot..............suggest to me the TV ratings aren't great anyway and they really are not concerned about building a following for the next season

There are other ways of developing character besides house drama. They could always do background bits and interviews.

They could also increase the educational value by going into more in-depth history lessons on the firearms and possibly more training details. I don't think I was initially attracted to the shooters themselves. I am always more interested in the firearms and shooting events anyways.

Why wasn't there an episode on last night? I thought it was because of some special or something but it was just a rerun of some show according to my DVR.

Next new episode is August 14th.

I hope it is not the last season.

I look forward to seeing which weapons make the show as well as the different challenges.
We recreate some of them for fun, using the same or similar weapons.

Since 5 of them have returned for the all stars,
I wonder how they chose the season one contestants.

I have no specific survey to point to, but in my opinion Top Shot has elevated shooting sports. My wife was not much interested in shooting, but supported my interest. Now she loves Top Shot, has her first pistol, and is a better pistol shot than I am. This year's show has been the best.
