So I've been playing with a couple single action revolvers lately, and was at the range running a couple loads over the chronograph today. I realize this is a "self defense gun" challenge, but the little Single-Six makes a pretty good woods gun, and the .32 H&R Magnum is still considered an adequate self defense caliber. If anything, it could provide defense against rabid squirrels and the like when out hiking.
More than anything, I still had a couple targets in my range bag and wanted to see if I could get the reload done in time and still get all 10 shots off. So I set the par time on the timer at 60 seconds and started with the hammer cocked and gun up on target. I fired six, shucked out the empties, loaded four more and fired them off. I didn't look at the timer as I went, and just plowed forward waiting for the beep. I was really rushing at the end, and the last two shots were the ones that went low. When I finished, I decided I should have slowed down a bit. I had managed to get all 10 shots off including the reload in a hair under 35 seconds.
So I took my one remaining target and moved back to 15 yards and tried again. This time I went a little slower and got it done in 52 seconds. I reviewed my split times on this one and found my reload had taken 16 seconds. Not bad. I'll take it. If I'd had another target I would have tried it at 25 yards as well. Maybe next time.
So since it's not a typical self defense gun, we can call this just a fun run. But I thought I'd post the results anyway.
