Top shot show on History

This popularity contest sickened me as well , I hope the Navy guy wins it all after seeing this episode or at the very least smack George in the mouth.

Every shooter after the first should have automatically compensated by aiming about 3-4ft. to the right...........it would have saved them some time. George is the only one that figured that out.

It's not that they didn't try to compensate, because I guarantee you they did. George was able to do so well because that is his discipline, and he is obviously very good at it. The others just didn't have the experience shooting at that range to know how far right of the target to hold, and they didn't know where the other competitors were holding when they missed either.

I haven't read through this thread, but I have to say that this year kind of sucks. Last year the drama didn't bother me as I really enjoyed watching the shooting, but this year is different. That jackass named George has really sucked all of the enjoyment out of it for me. The guy is an embarrassment. The whole "brotherhood" thing is stupid also. I believe I will watch something else from now on out because the show has become a joke with people like that twit still on it.

Looks like they're going Survivor mode full bore. Too bad. They should have kept the worse performers for elimination challenge just like from last season. The last two episodes from last season were great because the contests stood on their own merits.

Jay did well, but he was at a disadvantage. Quick transitioning to different targets were his Achilles heel.

I don't have a problem with George. Yeah, he's making the editors job easier  but it's really up to the producers.

At this point I'm losing interest in the show. Way too much drama now. :barf:

Wow. 2 guys had better times than George, doesn't mean they are better shots than George, means they followed the rules better.

But really, the worst 2 shooters in THIS competition didn't go. Didin't like that at all.

Admit it, you THOUGHT through the last 2 shots Jay was going to pull it out, again. Too bad to see him go.

George might win top shot, but tonight he certainly won the poor sportsmanship award.

So as far as I can see we are back to our opinions from before the season started.
I actually really started to watch it again when they were picking the teams on who should go to the elemination round by performance. Its was called honor and was not so much of a click ganster vote thing.

I have been rooting for Jay to get booted from the first episode, but what happened last night was not fair, and like a lot of you guys have mentioned, it was far from the "individual" stage. I have been a Chris Reed fan from the start, and still AM, but I said to myself that if Jay had won last night, I was going to root for him, just out of principle.

The drama doesn't bother me that much and I still enjoy watching the show because of the weapons and the shooting and the occasional comedy like when Jay returned from eliminating Daryl and George asked him if it was a 9 iron competition :neener:

I remember watching the first two seasons of 'Survivor' and getting highly annoyed, because I thought the winner would be the best survivalist. Instead, the winner was the best Machiavellian. Once I got over my disappointment and accepted the show for what it was, I stopped going insane (I also stopped watching the show).

I think the same is the case with Topshot, although not near to the extreme of 'Survivor'. I will continue to watch the show, because I enjoy the format and the shooting, and the non-shooting stuff can be entertaining as well. But, just like 'Survivor', the title is somewhat misleading. Although, I have to admit, everyone on that show is a VERY good shot.

Jay goes down. And, for some reason, I'm sad.

I know what you mean. I haven't been a fan at all, but in this episode, he was almost likeable. He didn't deserve to be in elimination, as Jamie didn't. I agree that the two worst times should have gone to elimination.

As far as George being a jerk, sure he is, but we don't know how much of that is scripted and how much is just him. We also don't know what Jamie is like when the cameras aren't on him. He's the nice guy, underdog when the film is rolling, but he may be another person altogether when they're just in the house. We don't know.
There are things I would change too, but at the end of the day, it's a reality show.

I didn't think I could realistically think less of George, but I guess I can. I wonder how low my opinion of him can go. I guess I'll find out.

Fun to watch, but this episode soured me a bit. If I want to watch a soap opera and BS drama, there are better avenues for me to do that. It just isn't fun seeing grown men act like teenage girls. Especially grown men in the military.

Here's what I'd like to see on the next Top Shot - nobody goes home. Everybody stays and the cumulative score at the end of the competition determines who the ultimate winner will be. Granted, it's not as interesting as the current soap opera in terms of the "Survivor" mentality, but at least you would be able to figure out who the best shot was with a multitude of weapons.

I'd also like to see a "Women's Only" Top Shot because under the current rules of play, there is no way a woman could overcome the "boys" attitudes and avoid elimination. They would never be able to accept the fact that a mere woman could outshoot them!:)

I like the guy who doesn't talk and always shoots well. But since I obviously don't even know his name, he's probably not the best TV personality...

That’s a great idea. Forget the elimination challenges; just run twice as many competitions and let your score do the talking.

That might appeal more to a more hardcore audience like we have here at THR, but realistically it wouldn't bode well for their ratings.

Remember, this show is a business. They're not out to promote a competition - they are out to make money. The reality is that a lot of people watching this show probably have never even heard of a lot of the weapons being shot. The "drama" that so many of us think detracts from the competitive aspect is what draws in a lot of viewers. If they televised USPSA or IDPA matches (which is much more of a straight competition), the show would have probably long been cancelled due to lack of interest.

This isn't a sport - it's "reality TV". That's in quotes because "reality TV" isn't about reality - it's about putting people into completely unnatural oddball situations because if it were JUST like reality - why bother watching? You could just go outside and experience your own reality instead. Just enjoy the show for what it is.

With that out of the way, at this point I think I'm rooting for Jamie. I was rooting for Chris Tilley and then Kyle after that. Truthfully though I'm fine with anybody but George winning.

The producers of the show could have taken any number of ways far better than what they've done:

E.g. They could have simply said the best shooter in the initial challenge would be spared the elimination round where ALL the remaining members would compete. Worst performer gets eliminated.

The show went the junior high school route. It's now just a popularity contest. :banghead:

This sums it up very well. Nicely said.
It's all about ratings. If everyone played nice the show would get terrible ratings and we wouldn't have it at all. That's why I don't even get too upset about George. The show has to have someone like that to shake things up.

When will a reality show actually be reality?

Never!

I think anytime you allow the competitors vote it is eventually going to become a popularity contest.

I'm sure many will disagree with me, but as a former Marine I was utterly disgusted to see other former military act like a bunch of teenage girls.

I have noticed a couple things from a number of these posts. People are saying they don't like how it turned into a drama thing with people voting for people they don't like, and then go on to say how they want a person they like to win. So it should be easy to see why the show went in this direction right?

If you truly want the best shooter to win, then this format may not get you the best shooter winning. After this last episode, I am starting to really dislike George, but have no problem with him winning. He is full of himself but he still shoots well. Now I really like Joe, he has integrity, and knew he shoot have been in the elimination. I agree. He was the worst shot, so probably should have been eliminated over Jay or Jamie.

Basically you can't have it both ways. Dislike the format and want your favorite shooter to win, or like the format and expect the best shooter to win. It doesn't work that way. You have to pick you poison.

I don't know Bones. I mean everyone wants their favorite shooter to win but you want him to win/lose on his skillset alone. Jay was not the worst shooter. As much as I have not liked him, the man can shoot. He is one of the stronger overall shooters, IMO.

The guy who did horrendous this competition, the only guy who could not shoot the weapon, was not even in the elimination. The challenge was nothing to do with actual talent and all about who bunked with who. Jay was going one way or another because he was not military. No matter how good he shot. Jamie...well he was not bunking with the others so he was going once again no matter how good he shot. All so King George can shoot with his buds instead of with any honor.

Personally, I'd like to think US military would know a thing or 2 about honor and integrity and would not act this way...sure it is scripted to a degree but really, I do not think they did anything to honor the rep our military veterans truly deserve.
