Yeah, I wonder if the shooters were told that the elevation was already dialed in? It had to be, since they were all off on windage but not any on elevation.
I think if you didn't know how it was sighted, the best thing to do would have been to hold center of target and fire it like a sighter, watching for feedback. It looked like it had a mil dot reticle, so it should have been easy enough to spot the dirt splash and hold that much off to get a hit on the second shot. It was a pretty big target... 30 inches.
