agree with the person about ashley, i was shocked to see him talk to jaime like that. i used to pull for him but that was crazy seeing that. i also, as a few others, want jaime to win just because of the way they are automatically agreeing to send him to elimination even before they compete. sad.

the worst finsher in each event goes home no voting no whining no aliances no dramatic reality tv bull puckey just plain and simple shoot like your butt depended on it and see how far you go

And the ratings would suck so bad the show wouldn't be on the air very long.
I agree with you. That's what I would like to see too, as well just about everyone on here I'm sure. But us extreme gun enthusiasts would be the only ones interested in an outright competition with no drama. My wife watches with me, and she's not as into guns as I am. I doubt she would watch if not for the reality part of it. I would wager there are hundreds of thousands of others like her.

That is true even here.

How many times have you seen a thread, "XXX wins regional" or "XXX wins Nationals" or even "XXX can really shoot and she's pretty too", that goes maybe a page...and yet here we are at page 20

Look right at this board and see how everyone (including myself) has favorites and others that they dislike. That is entirely a function of the drama injected into the show by editing hundreds of hours of tape to create nice guys and villains, winners and underdogs.

Up until this point, Ashley was pretty much a "nice guy", then tapes are injected to show him as a "villain" ...right before elimination. In the last couple of episodes, Jamie is being groomed as the underdog "nice guy". But, we simply don't know how much trash talking was done by others, about others, because those tapes were edited out.

So, even though we don't like the drama, we are also being sucked into it.

One thing is clear though; when you get a bunch of "A" personalities locked up together, a lot of personal politics is going to form which makes the elimination challenges a joke. In this episode, the two poorest shooters got a pass based entirely on "buddy politics". This has been the pattern through much of the show, as it was in last years show.

As far as I'm concerned, the real "top shots" will always be unknown because the eliminations are based on personalities rather than shooting.

^^^I agree with Kodiak

And I also agree with the idea that they should not have eliminations, and do a points system based on performance... but for television sake, that will never happen....

but I'd watch it if it did!!!

Too bad this shooting show has descended to the low that most of the other "reality" shows are. I guess a show just about skill, with honor, professionalism, maturity, and respect just won't "sell". BUT, they could have at least TRIED to sell it with those properties. The producers have tailored the show to be what they THINK it should be, and, regrettably, they put it into their usual format of pitting whining babies against each other for ratings. I'd hate to think they passed over really GREAT shooters because they were too much like gentlemen...............

Dang I liked Ashely until this episode also.
George made me laugh out loud when he was like "when you pick [the FAL] up the first thing you notice is it sucks," not because I agree with the statement but because it was kind of unexpected and humorous.
Also I kind do agree that the length of this thread is somewhat influenced by the drama on the show, otherwise it would just be like any other match and get little attention.

Lets go with the most hypocritical statements said on the show, I'll start...

"I'm trying to keep the performance-based thing going" -George

Struck me a little odd when they started holding the rifles at the magazine well like a "gangsta grip"......

This is true. I'm sure the entire competition was filmed and over with before they ever started editing it to make into what they wanted. However, a couple of people mentioned Ashley's rude behavior and Chris Reed even cast his vote based on it.

I also agree that there would be drama in order for it to be a successful show, but to what extent?

Dang I liked Ashely until this episode also.

Me too, but I'm sort of glad that he's gone. I think that it would have lead to that either way though. Jamie is the last one that isn't in the cliche'. They'd have been eating their own on the next show regardless and that attitude would have surfaced.

Ashley never seemed like he could handle pressure. You can see his hands shake while picking up the High Power during the elimination challenge.

Joe impressed me with his shooting and Jamie deserved immunity.

I noticed the same thing about Ashley. His body language also showed lack of confidence as they started the elimination competition.

Top Shot Producers - Swing and a Big Miss

They went for pure Survivor drama, IMO, hoping for a jump in viewership.

Instead they get a sudden drop in ratings for this last episode. First time this season the show is below 2 million viewers. The previous three episodes were all over 2.2 million viewers. At this late stage ratings should be going up. Of course that can still happen and History Channel is hoping for it.

IMO, whatever drama they'd planned to interject, they should always keep in mind that people still want a semblance of a fair competition - because the show was advertised as such. Voting in the individual challenges just blew that out of the water.

The show hasn't sunk to the level of professional wrestling by any stretch, but the basic premise is the same -- competition plus drama. Even the competition side is kind of shading towards the silly-wrestling-drama paradigm. Some of the challenges were interesting shooting problems, some kind of reminded me steel cage ladder matches and silliness like that.

I shot the FAL in competition in German years ago. Kind of liked it. Liked it a lot more than I like the M14. It actually is very accurate.

I think next week is going to be something to watch. Shooting clays from the back of a moving vehicle? Oh Boy! Only question is, are the birds being thrown up from ground level or are they coming from the moving vehicle also?

If they are coming from the vehicle it will put an added twist to their flight.

It looked like ground level...but it would be interesting for them to be thrown from vehicles coming at them oncoming and perpendicularly.

I am not upset Ashley is gone, and the fact that they made him seem like a jerk in the last episode only had a little to do with it. From early in the season I never thought he was that strong of a shooter, especially compared to the shooters left.

Why they don't like Jamie? I'm not sure, it probably wasn't shown. He has been rock solid in almost every challenge.

I like Joe, and he is a solid shooter, and I am glad he was in the elimination, because it shows he really is a good shooter.

George is a character. He is loud, upfront, funny, hypocritical, rude, friendly, everything. He certainly was letting his personal feelings get in the way of what he actually thought of peoples shooting ability. But he is a good shot.

Gunny struggled in this challenge. About time. What was this, the first time his target ever even got shot once in the voting? That shows something.

I haven't been overwhelmingly impressed with Chris. He honestly seems average. But I guess because he is consistent in almost all the challenges, and never does terrible, it makes him look better. I think, if based on skill, he would be the next to go.

Type A folks in competition do get rowdy and 'in your face'. I've seen plenty of it. But Ashley just trumped George for unsportsmanlike conduct clip of the week.

Next week's looks more challenging than shooting upside down for sure.

George sure has managed to manipulate the vote so that his name never gets mentioned, and in some challenges, he hasn't been close to the top. Now that some are starting to vote against negative personalities, he might get into an elimination.

Ashley has some serious mental issues. He's stalking Jamie on facebook, accusing him of being a fake. The guy has totally lost it.
