Top Shot - Season 3

Some guys have never touched a bow. Wouldn't that be an unfair advantage?
Heck one guy missed the target at the elimination vote twice. I think a smallest group challenge would be the most logical competition. Unfortunately, paper holes are less visual than BOOM! on TV. They'd have to make the boom target smaller. Maybe smallest group while choosing teams?
I think they need to do either a rifle or pistol competition with their own personal gun. Then they all have an equal 'advantage'. Then we'll see who shoots a Glock better than a 1911 or even a S&W revolver. Or pit a 10-22 vs. an M1A or a Remington 700. Even with different calibers, there's a certain amount of accuracy you can expect from any rifle in the hands of a "Top Shot" competitor. You'll probably get some race guns or comp rifles, but again, they're competing in a shooting competition, no excuses, right?
You have a lot of good ideas but you also gave the reason they don't do just hole punching, it's boring to those who are just casual watchers rather than shooting sports fans.

As for the idea of having people using different rifles, exactly how would you determine what distance to shoot? A 10/22 will only be accurate to about 50 yards, an M1A could be good beyond 100 yards with iron sights but even with optics will not be as accurate as the 700 Remington due to it being an auto. Now I am sure you could use an optimized M1A with high-end optics, but then you have to allow the 700 to be optimized as well, which will probably make it more inherently accurate than the M1A again. Are they to shoot the M1A and the 700 at the 10/22's most effective range?

When it comes down to it, they have done a great job of creating a fun to watch show with excellent variety in challenges. Even the bow competition you mention didn't really give much of an advantage to those that had experience because those with experience probably didn't do much bouncing of arrows to hit targets prior to the show.

Not to be sexist - but I think a women only show would be interesting. I've seen the women candidates eliminated quickly. Why - is only speculation but I think it would be an interesting show.

I also would like to see a FOG show. Maybe I could apply? Where's the laughing manically smilie?

they knock them off way too quick and i think its on purpose, an all women show would be interesting.

No reason not to say that - as they say, sex sells. Guys like to see nice looking ladies on TV and girls with guns is something that will pull in viewers. I can guarantee that the show execs were ticked this season when their two ladies were eliminated in the first few challenges.

I think it would be better to start out evenly mixed so that the girls would stay in the show for longer (kinda like Survivor is about even there), but realistically, for better or for worse there is a much larger pool of qualified males to pull from here than female. There are some really, really good female shooters in the sport, but if they pulled 6 for each season they'd have had almost all of them on the show and been out of people by now).

I must say though that Jessie Harrison (fomerly Jessie Abbate) would be awesome to have on next season :).

That aside though, I don't think that having a less exciting more "sport" oriented show would pull that bad of ratings. A bit boring, sure, but people still watch golf on TV without explosions or over the top drama. Take the XFL vs NFL too - XFL tried to be the "EXTREME" version of football with all that extra flair added in and it failed miserably.

I think at this point, at least for national and regional level events, the market could handle televised true shooting competitions. I know that if they had the USPSA or IDPA national matches on TV I'd watch watch them.

They should bring back the woman from season 1 who left because her father was dying. She's lasted longer than any of the other women, hasn't she?

Here's the last part of my behind the scenes interview with Phil Morden of Top Shot.

Phil Morden gives his picks for the winner of Top Shot season 3

"With the season finale of Top Shot season 3 airing tonight it's time to finish up my exclusive behind the scenes interview with Phil Morden of Milford, Michigan. Phil stayed into the competition until the individual stage, when he was eliminated in a controversial challenge by returning contestant Mike Hughes.

In the first part of the interview Phil addressed allegations by a former contestant than the producers could "fix" the results of the challenges by not having the firearms function properly and in the second part of the interview Phil discussed his thoughts behind Jake Zweig's sudden decision to quit the show before he was to face Phil in an elimination challenge.

In this, the final part of the interview, Phil talks about what went wrong during his elimination challenge, how he thinks Top Shot portrays the shooting community, and the impact the show has had on his life."

I really liked Phil..seemed like a genuinely nice guy.

Well, I WANT Gary to win, but I think Dustin will take it home.

He is. We shoot at the same club.

Funny, I'm rooting for Dustin, but I think Gary has a really good shot at it too.

I love the show and a locel guy is in the final 4 , dusten Ethermon from zavala Texas shoots at Evens Brothers gun range were I do my 300yd. practice I live in Lufkin 20miles from Zavala and the range is in Huntington . he is adown to earth kid , not cocky or with that look at me I was on top shot . The reasion he has done so well is he is just having fun not takeing it like a competion . If he whins tonight I have a box of Sierra Game Kings he Signed for sale lol. but he won't let the cat out of the bag , I have asked him . But {not shure of the spelling} Valquestury sent him a custom 10/22 with a trigecon scope and I sow it befor he did as I was at the rand when it was delivered . so I think he wins.

Dustin was unbeatable on that run. He deserved the win throughout, but his performance on that final event was truly artful.

Me too. The margin of victory was huge! I liked the last two guys but since thevone guy was already eliminated, I was glad to see Dustin win.

Great show... I would love to seebit go 10 seasons and then have the winners go against each other

Ugh...why did I look at this thread before watching the show? :banghead:

Glad to hear about Dustin, though...I was rooting for him.

I couldn't be happier with the way the show ended. Dustin ws my favorite all along, but I'll admit, there were times I thought "no way this kid can come from no-where and wi."

Glad to be wrong!

Forgot the show was on :banghead:----------missed it/ no tvo here. Glad to read who won.
Thanks

Anyone watching the show Behind the Bullet? I hate Jake even more. Man up, compete on your skills and leave gracefully if you can't hack it. He is a miserable human being.
